  • Wow this is really good.

  • the i7 link seems to have the product with 8GB ram, not 16 GB

How is this compared to the Lenovo E480 and Asus F510? This one looks quite conparable

    • Also curious as it's much cheaper than the same spec'd E480 and lighter as well.

Ummm, the Swift line isn't 2 in 1 - the Spin line is?

    • +1

Yeah I got them mixed up. Sorry >.>

  • Hhrrmm…how does one decide to get the i5 or i7 model ???

    • +3

general duties (and already plenty of power in reserve) go for i5. if you do video editing, or anything that required dedicated CPU time for long periods of time then i7, the benefit is you save a bit of time. i5 can do everything i7 can…just a little bit slower when doing heavy duty things like rendering, animation, Photoshop, gaming.

There is actually down side to i7 if you don't need all the power, i5 will give you a little longer battery life in comparison if just doing light duty browsing, YouTube etc.

  • having issue with the discount code "PLUS15" on the i5

    • my bad, gonna get the ebay plus

  • Wow that is cheap. I just bought the hp version for $850

And does inspired by Lenovo mean "we copied it"

What? Isnt the term 2 in 1 used for touchscreen?

        • +3

i thought a 2 in 1 is a laptop which can fold back into a tablet form

        • @BoomTetrisForJeff:
          Someone will enlighten us hopefully:)

        • Yeah that's why I Thoguht too and got excited and jealous. The title has been updated to remove 2 in 1

          So.its just a normal. Laptop

My bad guys! Don't know why i thought it's 2 in 1… ooft.

  • I ordered Lenovo E580 i7 this evening. How does this Acer Swift fare against Lenovo E580 or the Dell Inspiron 15 5000 or 7000? Any expert opinions?

  • Matebook x pro plz?

I bought the i7 with the 256GB SSD from the last deal (same price). Here are my comments:

    • Pretty damn smooth performance. But you could argue this is to be expected for a new laptop that isn't doing anything processor intensive. I YouTube, whatsapp, Excel, Word on my computer (lol).
    • It is definitely not a 2 in 1. It does not have touchscreen functionality - but this is largely a good thing to me (coming from someone who's never had a 2 in 1 though).
    • Great battery life. I'd estimate that 9ish hours is realistic.
    • The fact that the "End" and "Home" button are the Fn version of PageDn and PageUp is annoying, but this might just be a personal thing because I use a lot of keyboard shortcuts; some of which require the Home and End button
    • There are backlit keys
    • Not used to having a power button (top right corner of keyboard) where I'm used to there being a delete button. Again, because of my habit of using keyboard shortcuts, I've pressed the power button a few times when I was intending to press the delete button. Good thing is the power button doesn't do anything from a tap. I think it only responds to long presses.
    • Touchpad is fairly large. This is generally a good thing, but one negative is that sometimes my palm taps part of the touchpad, thus making it register a left-click.
    • I find the fingerprint reader pretty poor at recognising my fingerprint. My point of comparison is my Xiaomi Redmi Note 4. This is the first laptop I've used with a fingerprint reader though, so poor fingerprint reader is still better than no fingerprint reader.

Let me know if you've got any questions

Thank you! I've been waiting for the Asus F510 to drop again but it seems to be going up and up.i think I may settle with this deal.

      • Me too! Decided to go for this one instead as the F510 having a plastic body and no backlit keyboard was making me hesitant to buy it.

    • Here's some more context for people to understand what my reference point was.

I upgraded from a 3 year old Acer ES1-411-C1WD upgraded with 8GB RAM and SSD.

Overall, a pretty good device. Not sure if it was worth it to me seeing as it was my first time in many years spending $400+ on a laptop though :P but not a bad purchase. After TRS/cashback, it would've been about $650.

      • Cashback? Can't find cashback details?

      Hi Illumination.
I am trying decide between the i7 and the ThinkPad E480 Black (i5). If you have a moment could you answer a few questions about the acer swift that you purchased.

-Is the fan noisy and have you found the swift to overheat?
-I read a review that said that the screen is too dim, have you found this to be the case?
-Can the ssd be swapped out for something larger?

Sorry for any dumb questions, I am a novice when it comes to technology.

      Thanks

      • Also curious as to how it compares to the e480. Similiarly spec'd i7 E480 is on sale for $1139 atm so this comes out nearly $300 cheaper.

      • +1

Ok firstly I know very little about the E480.

-Is the fan noisy and have you found the swift to overheat?

Noisy, not at all. Overheat? No. But I don't think I'm doing things on the computer that are likely to make it overheat, so I don't feel I'm the best person to ask this question.

-I read a review that said that the screen is too dim, have you found this to be the case?

Not at all - but I have barely tried using it outdoors so again might not be the right person to ask.

-Can the ssd be swapped out for something larger?

        Honestly not sure.

        • +1

You should be able to swap the ssd out in any laptop. You could either do it the hard way which involves cloning software and you need a separate computer to clone the factory ssd. If your separate computer is a laptop you would also need sata to usb adapters or if it's a desktop just sata and obviously available sata ports on your motherboard.
Personally I would just try to reinstall the os as suggested here: https://www.extremetech.com/computing/261505-upgrade-larger-…
Worst comes to worse something goes wrong with windows 10 key and you have to buy another one, which will cost you 5-10bucks off ebay for a legit one…

        • @Tythefly86: thanks for the information.

        • Thanks for the reply. I might just get the Acer, it seems to be the most convenient option at the moment.

        • @Kooc: To avoid this I went for the 256GB model, unless you want to upgrade to a larger capacity. I bought it just a few hours ago, this thing looks heaps better than the E480!

        • @tonee88: You are right.
I came to the same conclusion regarding my situation.
If 256gb isn't enough for my needs an external hard drive should be fine.

    • can it run CloudReady (ChromeOS) with everything working?

    • Was MS Office included or did you have to purchase it?

      • Oh crap I honestly can't remember. I turned it on very briefly and then clean installed Windows very shortly afterwards. I'll let someone else answer this.

  • Does this only apply to plus members? Is it worth the membership cost? Yes, I do buy a lot from ebay.
