AMD Ryzen 7 2700X $422, 1700 $287, Ryzen 5 2600X $287, 2400G $202, 1600 $179, etc @ MSY

Hi guys!

Insane deals have been happening the past few days, I've been waiting for the Ryzen 2400G to go on sale for ages to build my dad a computer at a reasonable price!

I couldn't help but to notice other products for cheaper either when I was comparing the Ryzen 2400G price

These do show a significant value proposition to other competitors current "On Sale" prices

I used PCCG as an example retailer, I had a look to see if there were cheaper prices from other competitors and seem to be similarly priced.

Ryzen PCCG MSY
7 2700X $469 $422
7 2700 $389 (Was $419) $350
5 2600X $319 (Was $379) $287
5 2600 $239 (Was $279) $224
5 2400G $225 $202
7 1700 $319 (was $379) $287
5 1600 $179

I couldn't help but to notice some of those prices were SALE prices on PCCG but MSY has gotten even cheaper!

Is it really worth getting the 2600 if I have to do a bios flash? I'm not missing out on too much for only $45 less.
    What does ozbargain say.
    I'm referring to the 1600 vs 2600.

    • Honestly, probably hold on to your 1600 its only I think 10% performance gains if i recall correctly!

      • +1

        I make many errors bahaha.
I mean if I had to choose from 1600 or 2600 with a b350 Mobo would it be wise to just get the 1600?

        • Do all the B350s need a BIOS flash for the 2600? If they do need to be flashed, I'd still probably get the 2600 for myself at that price difference because of what features and performance gains it does offer you. Lets see what others think!

          @OWKnowitall1:

Would love to know this as well!

        • +1

I'm under the impression that new boards (as in, freshly built, not newly released) should come with the needed BIOS versions, but it's difficult to know what you're getting.

        • +2

          @OWKnowitall1:

I picked up a 2nd hand 1700 a week or so ago and purchased a new B350 motherboard. I can confirm it came flashed with a BIOS capable of taking 2nd Gen Ryzen out of the box.

        • +2

If the mobo doesn't have the latest bios out of the box AMD will lend you a cheap CPU that will work so that you can flash it. Claim via their warranty page.

          @polk:

          Wow. That's good service.

        • @theantipop:

          Which B350 did you get?

Also what speed ram are you using with your set up?

        • +1

@Ryballs: Ofcs, do you think this is Intel???

    • At those comparative prices: 2700 over the 1700, and 2600 over 1600. You're paying an ~22% premium for an 8-15% performance uptick.

You can select the right board before you buy.

      • That's odd, you were recommending the complete opposite in the last Ryzen deal.

        • You're just trolling now buddy. I recommended the 1700 over the 2600, and I still do.

Best price for the 1700 is over at Amazon AU for $261 after cashback.

    • +1

Why don't you want to do a bios flash?

      • +1

He'd need a gen 1 chip to flash it.
Unless he got an asus with cpu-less flashing via usb.

    • If you’re getting Ryzen for gaming, 2000 series would be worth it in my opinion. You’d need to get some decent b-die ram and clock it to 3200mhz or higher to reap the reward though.

      • are you saying 1000 series no need decent ram to run ???

        • 1000 Series still requires fast ram to perform at its best in games. I wouldn't buy 1000 series for gaming though. 2000 series is significantly better for that.

    • Personally I'd say get the 1600 and put the saved money into a better MB and memory.

Reason is next year the 7nm CPUs are due out and they are likely to be something like 16, 12, & 8 cores, better IPC, better frequencies, lower per CPU power requirements. You should be just able to buy and slot them in, provided the MB/memory is good enough.

That presupposes you are happy with upgrading next year, if not then get the 2600 (though don't be surprised if you end up upgrading anyway).

      • Thanks will wait for another price drop on 1600 haha

        • I feel like by then you won't find them anywhere haha but Id love another price drop

  • +1

yeah bios flash for 2's but good price for the mighty 2600x

  • +13

its DDR4 thats really holding me back for an upgrade.

    • amen, prices are still ridiculous for ram

    • Ha yeah. I'm still sitting on an overclocked sandy bridge because i like my 32gb of ddr3. Cost about $180 for the ram back in the day.

  • +1

OP, you like the price comparison table? Good to see your second post :-)

What did you end up building for your dad?

    • It was a DIY without the lines total headache greatful to the person that did the lines for me haha. Thanks :) just realise you did it LOVE IT and Thanks a tonne!

Going for the 2400G seeing it's an APU and he doesn't need game that way save money on a GPU

  • +2

    dang… wanted 2400g but 2600 is too cheap … then 2600x is also cheap…

    which 1 should i go for ?

does msy allow click & collect ?

    • Oh god that's hard to say! Depends what you're using it for and what your realistic budget is, I'd go 2600X or if you are comfortable to overclock go 2600 and whether you're going to hold out on the GPU till next gen and rely on 2400G till then

      • Go 2600X and a B350 motherboard if you don't plan to OC.

If you are comfortable OCing get the 2600 and a Motherboard suitable for OCing (higher end B350 or a X370/X470)

        • I've never over clocked before, is it easy to do?

        • +1

          @montorola:
It is with RyzenMaster software, i did it for the first through that but never the bios

    • 2600 here, or 1700 ($260 after cashback from Amazon AU).

  • Pretty excited to get the 2400G APU so I don't buy a GPU although the 2200g is pretty cheap

    • Just out of interest, what is that 2400g equivalent to in terms of graphics?

      • Check this Youtube Link I think some sources said it was Intel i3 8100 + Nvidia GT 1030
So Intel i3 8100 is worth $159~ + 1030 worth $109 which equals to $268 compared to the current 2400G price $202 a saving of $66 and when GPU prices go down you can upgrade to a better GPU :)

  • +1

Would a 1600 paired up with a 1080 or ti make much sense.. I looked at some benchmarks and I think the 8100/8400/1500/1600 range make the most sense for gaming and general performance.

    • Yeah i dont see why not, i dont believe there will be any bottle necking. Correct me if im wrong guys also check out the benchmarks on youtube there is tonnes, brings truly good value.

    • +1

      Very nice for most games.
Better options for some niche cases like emulation or cpu-intense crafting games.

    • 1600 is not good for anything higher than 1070gtx in 1080p

      • I'm curious can I get the source where you got that info? I'd love to read more into it !

        • Probably the Intel subredit

        • I think what he means is you can squeeze more performance with a 1700/1800 X but yeah probably only like 20 - 25% max for like a 60 - 95% price increase. Need to find where the law of diminishing returns take place.

All about the sweet spot and lowest budget.

  • +3

I highly recommend the 2400G if you're looking to make a budget gaming rig. I ran it for a few months while I waited for graphics card prices to drop and it's a really sweet APU - will run almost anything if you're happy to drop to 720p and lower your settings a little.

    • What would you say it's equivalent to?

      • +2

it's slightly weaker than the Nvidia GT1030, which is a $90 dollar GPU.

You would buy the 2400G if your budget is on the super low end, i.e. you can afford to buy CPU / RAM / Mobo but you have zero left over for a graphics card.

The 2400G is good for HTPC / casual gaming, that sort of thing fits nicely with the integrated GPU but at the same time you are giving up two CPU cores.

Given that the drought of graphics cards are over, budget gamers have less of a reason now to buy a Ryzen APU and they'd probably start buying the already 2 year old GTX1000 series cards now. We should see price drops pretty soon.

        • you mean price drops for 2200g/2400g APUs ?

        • in some cases it beats 1030 as well and is cheaper then buying those parts below, check out the benchmarks
Intel i3 8100 is worth $159~ + 1030 worth $109 which equals to $268 compared to the current 2400G price $202 a saving of $66 and when GPU prices go down you can upgrade to a better GPU :). But yeah i think scrim is right, APUs may go down in price!

        • @OWKnowitall1:

Xeon X3440 + 780 Ti master race ftw (equivalent to a GTX 1060 6gb but imho you can get the 1060 6gb cheaper if you know how to gumtree or ebay)

          http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-GTX-780-Ti-vs-Nv…

bryaneasy from Tech YES City agrees https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXNyrNSoXmw

  • Are these prices after the 10% off ?

  • +1

I’m going to suggest yes. So they will only run until June 30.

  • +1

So for photo and video editing…

2600x + B350 motherboard + Graphics card? Or just Intel 8400 without the graphics card.

Just confused after all the research.

    • I'm pretty sure 2600X beats 8400 in productivity like photo and video editing, definitely keep researching

    • Your best bet would be to read reviews where they are benchmarking using the same software as you. That way you can determine which CPU will provide you with the best performance for the money.

I think a lot of modern photo and video editing software can use a discrete graphics card. Again, check for your specific software.

      • +1

        Thanks guys!

  • +1

    No ragrets with my 2700X @ $469.
Mind you I was upgrading from a 955BE, so a huge difference.

Was about to get the 8700K, but I wanted the extra cores as I do video editing.

  • Is the sale over? I'm not seeing the cheaper prices.

    • Wow.. the prices were changed so fast… How do i expire this deal T_T
