Perfect for those who lives in the apartment ;)

URGENT - Mars is closest to earth right now and won't be this close for another 15-17 years
Go outside and night and it is easily spotted and identified
I wonder if this will ship in time

Cheap but incredibly crap. IMO you are throwing money away on this lens. F/8.0, no IS, manual focus. The reviews aren't great.
You might be better off buying a lens with less focal length and cropping the image.

    • As long as you know what you're buying, these are worth the money. Fun and works great for photos of the moon, etc if you have the capabilities to stabilise the lens properly.

      • +7

Sure but it is sure not fun when you come back from a photo shoot and have no photos worth keeping.

Similar lens can be had for $260 on eBay. Forum wouldn't allow me to post a link

    • I had the same problem, OzB thinks links from eBay app's "share" function are referral links =/

It's ok if you want to take a photo of the moon. You have to do a lot of post-processing though.

Record 3 to 6 1080p/4k videos, 2 or 3 mins in length, stack them with PIPP and RegiStax6. You'll be surprised with the result. You might be able to take a shot of Jupiter, Saturn and Mars if you spend more time, they are quite close right now.

f/8.0-16.0 and no IS, no thanks

    • if there is a lens with this length, with f/1.0 fixed, IS, gold plated, weather sealed, i doubt anyone in ozb able to afford.

    • Can someone explain T-mount to me? Will AF still work with the adapter?

No IS at that focal length range - need a tripod? Carry that and a tripod (maybe tripods)… hm…. not pleasant.

      • I don't think it has AF. You can get adapters, T mount is a really old standard mount. This lens is for specific uses where you don't have to move it or focus it very often. Pretty much a cheap telescope adapted to a camera mount.

    • No IS at that focal length would be awful with any wind at all with a lens that big. And you'd need sooooo much light to get a fast enough shutter speed at maximum focal length at f16. This would be a very difficult lens to get a good result with IMHO.

Whether you’re using it for sports photography or to shoot wildlife, the Samyang 650-1300mm f/8.0-16.0 Telephoto Lens truly is the perfect companion for every photographer.

Sports photography? Not a chance. Even my f/3.5-6.3 at 800mm eq. focal length would need broad daylight to get a clear action shot of a moving target.

But, this lens is way cheaper than my lens, so there's that. It would just be super frustrating to use.

Cheaper from bhphoto. About usd210 (aud285) including delivery to australia.

    Link

    • that is definitely a much better deal. BH also delivers through DHL express which is great.

  • As a professional photographer who shoots sport often, don't buy this. It's a gimmick.
Save your money. Buy a 200 2.8 with a Teleconverter or a cheaper, faster zoom with AF. What do you want 1300 for anyway? Walk a bit closer.

    • hey as a photographer (you), im starting to take some night shots and astrophotography. you had much experience with that. I have a telescope ive connected the dslr to but also just taking some long exposure with the camera. have a nikon. reading short focal length is the best. agree?

What kind of telescope do you have?

It all depends on what you want to capture.

Planets are bright, so you can get away with f8 or slower aperture. From my personal exprience so far, you'd want to shot videos to capture planets. Shoot a few 2 or 3 mins videos, use PIPP and Registax6 to stack each frame together, the programs will select the best frames and stack them together depends on the parameters you set.

Capture deepsky object is a really different process. You'd want a shorter focal length but fast aperture telescope, f5 or lower, so you can have a much longer exposure (5mins+).

        • I have 2 telescopes. 1 * 8 inch dobsonian and a 5 inch cassegrain mak that tracks the stars. just have the basic dslr with 18-55mm lens. but the lens you cant use on the scope so its just manual. been waiting on a few clear nights to get back out there as just started. but already have shots of saturn with its rings, jupiter and its moons and just on the camera some nice expousre of the milkyway but you can see slippage on the stars as exposure was 30 secs. .
          thanks for the info..
