$0 Fetch Mini for Optus Sport Premium Customers for 12 Months ($20 Per Month Afterwards)

1930

This seems to be a 'make good' offer by Optus considering the many issues they had over the weekend streaming their World Cup coverage - essentially if you're an Optus Sport 'Premium' subscriber, you can head down to an Optus store this week and pick up a Fetch Mini for $0 per month for 12 months. After the 12 month period, a $20 per month fee applies

EDIT: Title and description have been updated to reflect additional info posted on the offer page

      How many Eneloops?

  • +1

Has anyone who has an iOS/Android app subscription (ie; not an Optus customer) had success trying to claim the box?

    • +1

Yeah I got one. They set you up as new customer. 12month term. Fetch with sport

      • Hey LoFreq
You may want to check again because I was only Optus Sport app $15 subscriber when they gave the box the guy clearly said I get the Optus sport subscription free for a year as well so I will be able to watch the Premier League too and then its $20 a month after that. Now Optus are saying Sport subscription is free till 31 August 2018.
        Check it here.
        https://offer.optus.com.au/fetch-mini-redemption/

What do they tell you and do you have any proof about Optus sport being free for 1 year.

        • That's a different goodwill offer. The $0 12 month Fetch box offer included 12 months Optus Sport. The 31 August goodwill is for everyone and was announced after.

Anyone getting this error when using their Fetch Mini after connecting it to the WiFi?

    "This box is not active.

We couldn't log in your Fetch Tv Service Provider.

    Following these steps to fix.
    1. Wait 3 minutes and then restart your Fetch Tv Box.
    2. If the problem continues please contact your Fetch TV Service Provider and report that your box has a login error."

Only "Restart" button is available. I haven't seen any prompt to provide an activation code, nor have I received the activation code.
I've reset it a few times and no luck.

Optus Chat agent had limited access to look into this issue and said to call Optus support.
Called Optus support and they said they didn't have access and escalate to another team, pending call back at this stage.

Why is it so difficult to get something right with Optus?

    • I picked one up on the weekend and had the same problem. It hadn't been activated/associated with my account on their end. It took a couple of attempts through live chat but I eventually got someone who could help. I still don't have access to my Optus Sport account on it, though. That's proving to be a tougher nut to crack.

      • Thanks mate, this is a real pain! The world cup will be over by the time I can connect it! :-(

    • After connected to WiFi, it keep showing no input signal.

      Anybody can help?

      Thanks.

  • Sunshine and St Albans VIC out of stock…

  • I just tried to get one at the Hurstville Optus store. I have Optus Sport included in my $40 plan.

The store assistant went thru the application process but wasn't able to get it for free. Apparently, its only for people who pay the extra $15 for Optus sport.

    Anyone else have this issue?

    • +1

This is the joy of it all. Non loyal Optus customers who pay $15 for Optus Sport get the device for $0.

'Loyal*' Optus customers who are on a plan get stiffed with $5/month

      *Loyal until their contract expires

      • Thanks for that. At least I'm not the only one.

    • Go back and speak to them today - they apparently loaded the eligibility overnight, so some users were yesterday being reported as not eligible but are reported as eligible today.

If you agreed to pay the $5 a month, they should at least be able to confirm your eligibility to have received it for free, and you can then either return the old and receive a new, or get a $5 credit per month for a year.

    • I pay $30/month with Optus sport included, 15gb data etc, and they gave me the fetch box. It helped that the girl didn’t really know what she was doing.

    • I have Optus sports included in my plan and got one today at Hurstville. Not sure what changed but had no issues

  • Went to collect one and the store reps told me they have been told to wait for customers who have been sent an email then provide the fetch mini to them. I have not received an email and told them to check my account on their system, they said no.

Supposedly optus know which customers are effected which is total bullshit as it looks like most are having problems.

Then they said it is only for customers who pay the $15 per month. If you get it free as part of your plan then they will not provide the fetch mini.

It's weird. For me, it's smooth.
      - Show up in store in Camberwell, Vic.
      - Show the staff the Optus offer page.
      - He ask me my email address that I use to login to Optus Sport.
      - He did some typing, then ask me for my driver's license and then my phone number
      - Then I walk out with the device.

Updated: I have a $60/month phone plan with them and nothing else.

      • Like @trump3 above, you might get a call saying there's a 'glitch' and they will charge you $5/month. Hope you're a lucky one

        • I think I am lucky then. Haven't received any phone call so far.

    • that is useless. SO they scam people to sign up for 2 years to a phone plan. then if you pay a once off 15 dollar fee for a month. you are eligible? HOW DOES THAT MAKE ANY SENSE!

  • tried online chat and was being processed, after a few moments, he said he's unable to process it and requested for me to call Fetch hotline. Agent confirmed my eligibility though -_-

  • +2

I just spoke to store and this may help. I was told that any customers who already have a fetch box are not eligible as you can already use the app or fetch box. They are targeting customers who are only using the app to give them the alternative option.

  • What about those that have a big box that have cancelled service? I would be more than happy to connect the box and avoid the queue for a mini.

  • +1

FYI.. Out of stock moonee ponds

    • I was there at about 2pm and they took down my details as they said the offer was so new it hadn't been updated on their system to process it. I think I was one of the first there and they said they had a few in stock. I'm not sure if they were just telling you that, but I won't be too pleased if they had given this to people who arrived after me.

      • +1

Hope they kept one for you!

        • So do I! :)

        • Got a call from the Moonee Ponds store saying they have one for me to pick up. Not sure if they got more stock but I'll ask.

        • Just picked one up from Moonee Ponds after they called me to say they now have stock. I was the first they had processed. They have more in stock, but it sounded like they had a few people to call on the waiting list.

  • Went to the store to pick up the fetch and being told system is down since arvo. Great.

  • Just reading the official Fetch Mini website and came upon this. There's a $1 activation fee? Does that apply to this deal as we are getting it through Optus?

"# Requires fixed line broadband plan of 3Mbps+. There is a $1 one off activation fee payable by Australian Visa or Mastercard. Aerial required to access Free-to-air TV. Your broadband provider will meter your data. SD channels use around 1GB per hour."

  • Cockburn Gateway WA - No Stock

Also said if I didn’t receive an email - I’m probably not eligible for it.. even though I’m a paying Optus sport customer

  • Got one at Forest Hill VIC. Currently on a $70 mobile broadband plan. Thanks OP.

  • I got emailed my activation code and not sms’d like they said if anyone is wondering where their activation code is.

I was only if the lucky ones with a smooth freebie transaction…

  • Worst experience of my life with this promo.
Went to one store they said i has to pay $5 a month for it he didnt know anything about he deal he didnt get any communications apparently. I called optus they transferred me to 5 different departments and they kept trying to transfer me i gave up.
I went to another store they checked my email they knew what was going on at least, they said to me im eligible i am currently on the $149
Mobile contract. But he said they didnt have stock, although another sales guy was selling another one to someone else. Coincidence they just sold out?? They told me to call another store i did, i asked if they had one in stock, they said yes, i told him to put it on hold ill come get jt now, he was happy to do so, until i said its for the $0 per month redemption he shut me down and said no that stock is not for those customer optus has told us to put these on hold for that redemption. Clearly a lie. I went to one more store actually one person trying to help said they dont have any but he took my name down they have 15 coming tomorrow. I just cant believe how hard it is to get something so simple, im not asking the sales guys for a kidney they just dont want to do it.
Who actually got this without hesitation? I feel this shouldnt be given to the salespeople to organise this as they clearly dont want to do it.

  • Went to Optus Store at Chadstone Melbourne at 4.20pm (lots of customers there for same thing). I waited 1 hour but I did get a free Fetch TV Mini, without issue. They had plenty of stock just delivered.

I'm an Optus Sport premium account member. I do not have any other services with Optus.

When setting up tonight I'm getting a message on my TV screen saying… "This box is not active". I have not received an activation code yet.

I contacted Optus online and I need to wait 24 to 48 hours for activation code, as I only got the Fetch Box today. More waiting.

Lets see how good this Fetch TV mini is with viewing. I hope no more buffering etc problems.

  • So Optus Mobile postpaid user = Free Optus Sport(need registered) = Free Fetch
Just provide the free world cup service with any broadband.
The Fetch itself needs to return after 12 mths by calling Optus Service Center. Has been told it will be postage free.
Just got it 1 hour ago at Optus Cannington WA.

  • Just a heads up for people with Optus issues

SBS will have all FIFA World Cup games for the next 2 days while Optus fix their issues

  • I went into Plumpton NSW on the way home and the shop assistant told me “it’s going to be an online only thing, we aren’t doing it in store”. Then I tried to contact Optus on Live Chat who told me that I should wait 24 hours. Anyone else have something similar? I kept showing them the page that said “in store only” and they wouldn’t budge.

  • I am using optus sports as part of my post paid mobile plan. Went to store today and got the Fetch Mini. Thanks OP.

  • WARNING: You cannot combine an ISP provided Fetch TV device and a Retail Fetch TV device for multiroom. So if you are thinking to expand your existing retail Fetch TV Mighty you bought from JB Hi-Fi you will NOT be able to do this as this is an Optus provided ISP Fetch TV Device. They will not work together — https://www.fetchtv.com.au/support/multiroom

    • +1

It is also worth noting that it is unlikely that those with an existing Fetch TV device through Optus will be able to use the Mini obtained through this offer with multiroom as a new acount is created for the Mini when obtained through the store.

      • Have you confirmed this? Aren't you able to use your old account with the free mini for multiroom? If that's the case i'll just return mine then.

        • Haven't had a chance to set it up yet but as pointed out by @rtfmoz further below, the boxes need to be on the same account to use multiroom. See page 6: https://www.fetchtv.com.au/pdf/Multiroom_user_guide.pdf

If this is the case I will try and get the mini moved to my existing account.

        • @zootv: i just asked optus to link my mighty account with the mini. They just asked me the serial number, then provided me a different activation code. I asked if i will get the same packs as with my mighty and the answer was yes. Yet to find out when i get home. I'll update when i get the chance.

My billing with Optus is currently very smooth… won’t jeopardise that by getting something that I need to return later. God knows what could go wrong.

  • Thanks Op, got one no issue. Just was told I may get charged $10 next bill but will be credited back following month

    • I was told that I would get charged $20 and then credited back the following month. It’s honestly laughable how inconsistent the Optus experience is.

  • +1

Optus Premium $15/pm customer here, no other Optus services. Walked into Booragoon WA Yes store around 3pm AWST, the guy who served me had a good understanding of the offer and how to process it. I had not previously received any email or notifications about the offer, but passed eligibility. 12 month contract was required with ID check, but no payment details were needed/given.

Had the "Box not activated" messages after booting the Fetch. Around 8pm AWST received a confirmation text and email with an activation code. Started Fetch and this time it went through setup and activation without any issues.

Was able to see Optus Sports in the menu after about a minute. Watching Sweden vs Korea now, quality is excellent, the best of all formal World Cup streaming options available in Australia to date (I had been using Optus Sports app on Apple TV and SBS app over Airplay).

    • is the fetch mini that much better then using apple tv? was thinking about getting rid of my fetch for an apple tv

      • It is for streaming the World Cup at this current point in time (i.e., Optus could improve the quality of its ATV app/stream in time), but I think the Apple TV is good value for it's other capabilities, including support for apps to stream many other sports like the NBA and NFL.

    • Did you cancel the optus subscription through itunes?

      I don't understand this…

What do I get with it?

Free-to-air catch-up TV, 12 months access to Optus Sport and 30 pre-selected 'Movie Box' movies per month. Access to Netflix and Stan on TV, but you will require a subscription to these services. The ability to browse/purchase content from the 'Movie Store' and 'TV Store'.

So you should be getting 12 months of FREE optus sport right? So no longer need the optus sport subscription?

      • On the invoice/contract it shows you are given the Fetch Mini and the Optus Sports Premium subscription as a monthly service, with the billing chargeback to make it $0/pm. There is no login required/possible to the Fetch with your Optus Sport account, so I would say the box is authorised via its serial number when it connects to the Optus backend infrastructure.

So you could cancel your sub created through iTunes/Play stores, but obviously can then no longer access Optus Sports via those apps once your current paid month is finished. For that reason there may be scenarios where you may want to keep paying for the subscription (e.g., you watch games on your mobile while on public transport).

  • has anyone who already has a fetch mini from optus tried to get another? :D

    • already have a fetch mighty and got the fetch mini - but I have two unlinked accounts with Optus (1 for postpaid mobile 1 for ADSL/Landline) so maybe the one they checked was the one without the mighty.

  • I have an iphone X on a plan with free sport and managed to pick this up today for nothing. I think they charged me $14.95 but added $14.95 credit each month to get to nil cost. What is confusing is the $20 a month cost thereafter, considering this is just a piece of hardware worth $169 RRP. So if I hold onto this for a few years or to perpetuity, would I be coughing up $240 p.a. just to rent the device on its own and then have to pay extra for the premium channels? Does not seem to be such a great deal when compared to foxtel now for those who already have Apple TVs, does it? Would love to know if my assumptions are right or wrong.

  • +1

I need confirmation… I'm NOT an optus customer… I paid $15 through itunes just for the world cup…

If I get the Fetch Mini for $0 for 12 months… Does that mean I can cancel my subscription?

    As link states:

What do I get with it?

Free-to-air catch-up TV, 12 months access to Optus Sport and 30 pre-selected 'Movie Box' movies per month. Access to Netflix and Stan on TV, but you will require a subscription to these services. The ability to browse/purchase content from the 'Movie Store' and 'TV Store'.

  • They made me set up a new Optus sport account. Weird.

    • Same…hope i don't get charged for this….just need for the world cup and I am done.

  • "If you purchased your Optus Sport Premium Subscription through an app store, or if you are on an eligible Optus plan and you experienced problems with Optus Sport streaming performance from 14 June 2018 to 8pm AEST 18 June 2018, you are eligible for this offer. You can redeem this offer by attending an Optus retail store from 18 June 2018 until close of business 22 June (while stocks last)."

This is BS, how would they know which ones did, (or didnt) have issues? So unless you called up and complained, Optus apologies to you. If you didnt bother calling up, unfortunately, tough luck

  • My story

Wife has a mobile postpaid (30$) account with free Optus sport (actually paying 18$/montu due to promotions etc)

Went into Collins & Elizabeth Street store in Melbourne. Gave them my details said she was eligible but has to be in the store to process the order.

To make it easier she just signed me up as a new account. 20mins later I walked out with a new fetch mini

    • Also went into Collins & Elizabeth Street store in Melbourne.

Was told you need to be a paying subscription customer to be eligible? Wtf?

Fetch box is NOT eligible on a free sports subscription included in your plan

  • It took about an hour including waiting time to process the application. They needed licence and medicare card to update the records over to the "new" system.
Was told that charges will go through the next bill followed by a credit in the next bill after that. The experience has been quiet clunky to say the least.

  • Stock available at stafford city store (12pm) in Brisbane. He even brought one out before telling me I was "ineligable"… Good luck if you are eligible

  • On $40 sim only 12 mnt contract and got my Fetch mini from Bourke St store in Melb today morning.
Was told that the device should be returned back after the subscription is cancelled.

  • Collins St very helpful but probably long queue now. Process is not quick to create order and add to account. Have both mobile (with free sport) and nbn with fetch and was still eligible. Mini has separate account to main fetch so have been told cant link the two together which is a shame as the main reason I bothered was to use multiroom (using mini to watch recordings from main fetch on another tv).

    • +1

Yes I was also hoping to have the mini linked to my existing fetch box for the multi room experience. I wonder if they can be linked by contacting support and having the mini transferred to the existing account, or if this can be done through the dashboard online.

    • https://www.fetchtv.com.au/pdf/Multiroom_user_guide.pdf Page 6. but it may only apply to fetch retail devices. Call their support

    • Chat wont do it, said I have to go in store. She did check if I was eligible but no cigar. 2 stores said no as well. I do have a subscription as part of my mobile plan, but have not registered for the app. I tried anyway.

  • Just got a call from Optus Murray St store, they have received stock and done checks to confirm I am eligible. Heading in later to pick it up.

  • If you are not getting the device

Lodge a complaint with the TIO

It's the only way Optus learns

  • On $40p/m Optus sim only plan w/ Optus Sport included and eligibility was fine.

Picked up last one at Barangaroo.

  • +1

Picked up the last one in Darlinghurst (Sydney) this morning.

They knew the whole procedure but you still have to do ID/credit checks to get the 12 months 'free' Fetch mini. About 20 minutes in store.

  • +7

You can also chat with them online here: https://www.optus.com.au/opfiles/OnePortal/lib/js_min/vendor…

I did that, asked if I was eligible for the Fetch Mini, and they said yes then processed my order online. Said I should be delivered the Fetch Mini within 2 business days. No hassle of having to go in store.

    • Thanks mate … I just did the same!

Although the rep said at first "you must go into the store" … however I said "oh I was told by your phone support you could order online" and then by some magic she processed the order without complaint!

I have no Optus services - just the App from the App Store

    • Thanks - I just did the same too. I don't have any Optus services just Optus Sports via Google Play Store subscription. Set up everything through online chat and getting one sent to me in 2 business days.

    • I tried chat and they went on store only… Then said systems down go to store… Then I argued I had no time and to take my details and put the order in… Apparently they will when the systems up. We will see … How painful

    • Oh nice!

Did the same last night, and have order confirmation email and tracking details etc :)

…and same as you guys, I don't have any Optus services except for Optus Sports via Google Play Store subscription.

      • Was this in your confirmation email?

We're just confirming that you've added Optus Sport (Fetch Standalone) and Optus Sport Discount to your Optus Service.

        • +1

          Yep.

    • existing optus customer - was told have to go into the store to do it

  • Just got mine from westpoint, blacktown. No dramas whatsoever. I have the old nbn plan with free optus sport that also came with a free fetch box.

  • I changed my mind and didn’t want to deal with it in 12months. Figured I return it unopened to the store so someone else can use it since stock seems low for a lot of stores… long story short they wanted to charge me a cancellation fee if I returned it.
    LOL Optus…

    • Huh? That's odd. That's supposedly cancel anytime without fees.

      • Hey yeah it says so on the page!…bloody waste of time…
Anyways ended up complaining to their chat online so they getting me to post it out to me… their money they are wasting I guess

  • Who else here got a different account number with their fetch mini? Will that be ok?

    • i got that too. Dont know if its an issue or not?

I log into my account on optus.com.au and there are multiple accounts.

dont get why it just didnt go on the same account as my mobile.

  • Plenty of stock at Bourke St Optus store

  • hi all,
i went into macquarie park optus today.
i have only an nbn plan with fetch mighty that includes optus sport, and no phone plan at all.
i said the app wouldn't work on my phone.

they gave me one no problem :)
he said they had 26 people come in yesterday and there were 3 people waiting after me for the same thing

  • I have Fetch via Optus NBN.

Grabbed a Fetch mini today from Casula without any issue.

Looks like they do a new order cause they entered all my details in again and did a credit check?

But at the end he did submit a offer claim so I dont get charged.

  • +1

I went into the engadine store today only to be turned away, was told that because the store is a optus franchise they would honour the deal, they advised that Miranda is a optus freehold store and that they can action the free box, also was told don't bother as the lines are out the door, I went onto chat explained it and the rep ordered it there and then, he also said any store should be able to provide it, only issue I had was the system was down, and he has to place the order manually when things are up and running again, I got the chat transcripts emailed to me… Said I would receive an email with a order number when it's all complete, somehow I doubt it…. I will be chasing this up 100%

  • I managed to grab one today in chatswood. Much better service than Macquarie centre optus. They have around 60 left.

Weird thing they made a new account instead of just linking it to my current account so I hope I can link my current fetch account to this new mini fetch to get multiroom feature with all my channels active

  • So I picked up one and cant even activate it. Apparently the code is wrong even though it identical to the Activation code I received via SMS and email.

  • +2

Tip for those uses who already have an Optus Fetch service and want to link the Mini to their existing service, you do have the option. I picked mine up this morning but (as others have mentioned) they created a new account for it instead of adding it to my existing service.

Speaking with online chat, they advised I could register the Fetch Mini to my existing service through the My Account page. Once logged in, expand your Fetch TV service & select the Fetch option that should be under Options & Extras. From here, you can see a list of previously registered Fetch set-top boxes with a Register option below that.

Now just enter in the serial number of the Fetch Mini and it should hopefully register successfully and SMS you a new activation code for the mini.

I did this on my Fetch Mini before using the activation code provided by the new account. If you have already activated the Fetch Mini with the code provided with the new service, unfortunately I'm not sure how to deactivate it.
