Not worth the shitty customer service, I would avoid this shady company.

    • +1

I've been shat one by almost every telco. Here's hoping belong don't do the same

      • +2

They wouldn't refund me my monthly charge after I had canceled it because apparently it wasn't done till 2 days into the next billing period, had to get in contact with TIO after repeated emails just had copy and pasted answers and they don't have a phone number to call for mobile enquiries soon as I contacted TIO they called me and said sorry and refunded my money..

        https://www.productreview.com.au/p/belong-mobile.html

just read a few of these

        • You should have used PayPal then you'd not have any problem

    • +1

      I've never had an issue

    • +4

There's a reason for that, they're a Telstra company. The Belong branding was setup to appeal to a younger demographic who traditionally don't like Telstra (for good reason).

      • +1

Telstra is for old fuddy duddies, you Belong if you're a yoof!

    • I agree Jetship. Pathetic company. Pathetic service.

      • -1

Yes but from Helstra's POV, anyone that doesn't belong (with you) can goto a company you own, and given service levels lowered one or two rungs deeper into the depths of hell, they will get what they deserve for leaving. And there is a good chance they will return to the fold without you having lost all the revenue to (completely unaffiliated) competition

Never under-estimate the vindictiveness of a large corp, let alone one supported by successive governments and paid for in blood by the country it leaches off.

    • $10 cheap working ok for me last few weeks. why shitty?? Get access to telstra network without paying big $$$ no complaints.

  • $25 with 25 GB data, how come?? can't find this plan on the website

    • I could only find 5GB on their website, any other promotion is going on I am not aware?

      • Its been corrected now

  • Is it actually prepaid? Or do they force you to register a credit card? It's unclear on their website

    • Prepaid in that you do pay in advance but they will withdraw funds automatically.

    • +1

It's sort of a mix of both, it'll debit automatically but you can cancel any time (so not a fixed term plan)

Best arrangement is to have PayPal be the payment method, then if you want to quit you only need to cancel the authorisation (cancel properly as well, but you don't need to wait for them to respond to make sure they don't debit you next month)

    • they will debt your card automatically so make sure you cancel well well before the end date as you can see my other comment.

      • So then if you cancel you lose your service. Bit pointless signing up in the first place then.

        To all the other posters':

It's a postpaid service but month by month (no contract) so can cancel at any time. No phone support though. As Quantumcat above mentioned.

        • Not pointless - since your data never expires, it's a cheap way to add data to your main account. Eg activate it on $25/5GB then "gift" that data to your main account. $10 for 5GB when it would normally be $10/2GB when topping up, or just $10/1GB if only using your normal monthly allowance.

    • WARNING, as mentioned before this is a POSTPAID service with no term, the way that it is sold makes it seem like a prepaid service- borderline deceptive in my opinion!! There is no official option to cancel your auto debit without cancelling your service(the PayPal method above seems like the only none official method). And it TAKES 2 DAYS TO PROCESS YOUR REQUEST TO CANCEL YOUR AUTO DEBIT. I ported my number out 12 days ago and they have tried to debit my credit card 11 times since then, with last night being the most recent attempt. Lucky for me I cancelled my credit card a month ago. I wonder how many times and how long they try to debit me after I have ported my number out.

      • Just port away that cancels it out! well should, that's weird. Anyhow ya bank can always put a block on it.

        • Nope, bank said they can only cancel the card or go through a charge back process, they cannot block a merchant. Sorry I said I cancelled my card, I had only blocked it, ready to be cancelled as soon as I paid off my balance(so my app still shows who is trying to debit) and as of this morning, they are still trying to debit my card around 5 times a week. It's been a month.
I cantacted them, nicely advising they shouldn't be debiting my account, they said they had every right as I clicked agree upon sign up, then I said I will report them to TIO if they don't and they replied with a threat of their own. They don't have a contact centre(phone) so it is so frustrating dealing with them. Never again.

Is there a date by which the starter kit has to be activated?

  • Just to confirm that this is the starter kit only? So you pay the standard pricing from the second month onwards?

    • +3

It's a starter kit with $25 of credit included. If you go with the $25/month plan (first time I've heard of it), you will be billed for the second month. Otherwise if you go for the lowest $10/month plan, you will get billed $5 at the beginning of the third month. So yes, after the starter credit runs out, you pay the rack rate.

      • Thanks greenpossum. It makes sense now. Green possums must be rare.

      • How long to activate it brought today , and friend referral

  • +1

Check out the https://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/belongmobile particularly the starter packs bit.

Anyone knows if the $5 international pack includes mobile numbers too?

And no international roaming, no voicemail. Seriously??!

    • +1

yes, it includes mobile numbers too. No voicemail but it has msg2txt service activated by default.

    • Woah, no voicemail?! Checking… wow, you're right. Did not see that one coming. I'll pass.

      • VoicetoText is better anyhow.

    • No voicemail and it has only 10 seconds msg2txt service.

  • belong now allowed referral for mobile users - $20 for new users!

    • +1

Will the referral work with starter pack?

      • Yep, just did it.

        • Quick question … where does it indicate that referral works for mobile plans and where do you type the referral code? I've just purchased the $25 starter pack to port my wife from Amaysim to Belong, does that mean she will get an additional $20 credit - ie. making it $45 in total?

Also, is it true that it we request for porting to be done after 20th (eg. 21st July) - we don't get changed until the next cycle which is 4th of August? I take it that the service will be activated and working once ported.

        • @nmehta:

The is a place to enter "promo code" when activating and the referral code is entered then.

It will say $20 credit for a referral code when its entered.

          Billing dates are 4th 12th 20th 28th

          so it'll be 28th July

Oy, which one is this "a one month $25 plan with unlimited calls and txt and 25Gb data" ?

Biggest data is 15 GB and that is $40.
$25 only gets you 5 GB.

    • Its been corrected to 5GB

  • I signed up to Belong a few weeks ago on $40 starter pack and got 15gb then another 15gb appeared after a few days - perhaps the $25 will give 5gb +5gb after a few days?

    • Looks like it will. See https://whirlpool.net.au/wiki/belongmobile , under "Starter packs", activate on the 5th (say), get 5 GB and 7 days free service, then billed for first month on the 12th, and get another 5 GB.

      • i think op has mistaken the 15gb plan

        • Yeah they said 25GB data, I think they meant 15 GB of data as per: https://www.belong.com.au/mobile/plans … but then another 15 GB a few days later, so probably it should say 30 GB data?

        • @nickj: Its been corrected to 5GB now I see

    • Can confirm this is what happens, I signed up the other day on the $25 plan (which I got for $10) and initially had 5GB data and then got another 5GB added randomly. You can also sign up with referral code. Mod: Referral solicitation removed.

So in total I paid $10 got 10GB of data, then I swapped to the $10 plan so I won't pay anything for the next 2 months whilst having my data roll over each month.

      • "then I swapped to the $10 plan so I won't pay anything for the next 2 months"

Is that from using the referral code ?

        • correct, my account is currently $20 in credit

I tried to buy one at Coles. However there was an Invalid Gift Card Activation error when the transaction went through. They gave me a refund and removed them all from show.

I know Starter Kits need to be activated like a Gift Card so we can use them. Does anyone know more about these checkout errors and are they common? A Coles worker told me that its common with all the telcos. I wonder if it occurs at other supermarkets as well?

    • Which code were they trying to scan. Its got to be the big one down the bottom. Not the one in the top right hand corner.

      • I think it was the right barcode coz $10 came up on the register andi paid for it. Afterwards the error came up for invalid activation

    • Not all of the starter kits. But telcos have started requiring scanning so that they can limit the time before activation. Pity your purchase didn't go through, that would have told us when it has to be activated by.

    • Yep, it happed with me yesterday at casula Coles. Staff refunded. The receipt scanned correctly $10.

  • No voicemail ruins it for me, any other decent providers that have the data rollover feature?

  • +1

Just bought one and ported my old VirginMobile number - the call quality is crap, as if they've divided whatever bandwidth is needed by 10, and trying to compress the call into that narrow band. I wouldn't be surprised if this is how they get such low price. The Internet works with no issues, very fast/stable; but the call quality ruins it for me; now can't go back to Virgin as Optus killed it.

    • +1

Works fine for me, strong signal, normal voice quality. Maybe your phone doesn't support a band that Telstra uses?

      • Will these bands be ok with belong
