    oooh….cinema ticket wars…..

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/38423#

    • Really? I thought that Village & Greater Union were like Safeway & Woolworths.

  • Is it just $7 or is there a booking fee on top when they are redeemed ?

    • T's & C's

      • Not valid at Village Cinemas in Victoria & Tasmania or Event Cinemas New Zealand
      • $3 Surcharge will be payable on redemption for 3D or Vmax sessions
      • $6 Surcharge will be payable on redemption for Vmax 3D sessions
      • This offer must be redeemed for sessions on or between Feb 1st 2011 and March 31st 2011
      • Not valid with any other offer, voucher or discount
      • This is an online purchase and online redemption offer only. You cannot present your code or a print out of your purchase confirmation at the box office in exchange for a cinema admission ticket. All bookings must be completed online.
      • Not valid for Gold Class sessions
      • Complete the online transaction with your code and present your print@home ticket at the box office.
      • Sessions will go on sale each week by 5pm Tuesday for sessions from that Thursday
      • There will be strictly NO refunds available.
      • Anyone who has access to this page is available to take advantage of this offer.
      • Online purchasing options include Credit Card and PayPal
      • Not valid for special event screenings
      • Customers must make a separate transaction for other standard purchases
*For any further questions or concerns please email [email protected]
    • Doesn't appear to have an online booking fee, but these ones are online redemption only - the Village ones are in cinema OR online (with a $1 booking fee).

      • Are you sure? Because it says:

This is an online purchase and online redemption offer only. You cannot present your code or a print out of your purchase confirmation at the box office in exchange for a cinema admission ticket. All bookings must be completed online.

Since it has to be online, won't they charge us an extra $1?

I'm also a bit confused by:

Sessions will go on sale each week by 5pm Tuesday for sessions from that Thursday

I sent an email to event but haven't had a reply yet. I've just checked back and both last year and the year before the $7 included the fee so I would assume that this year is the same :)
If I recieve a reply to my email with different info I will post back

        • Well, the T&C's for Village's offer specifically mentioned that there was a $1 booking fee when redeeming the vouchers online. I'd assumed that them not mentioning it was a good enough sign that there wasn't.

        • In the past these kind of vouchers did not attract an online booking fee, hopefully this one is the same.

        • +1

Email Reply from Andrew of Event Cinemas states that there is no booking fee when the tickets are redeemed

just wondering, are there actually any major movies, or movies worth seeing coming out in February or march?
This is a great deal, but i think there's really nothing exciting coming out in those 2 months from what i can see.

    • Good time for them to sell tickets via such an offer if that's the case.

    • +2

      From this list
      http://www.eventcinemas.com.au/Movie/ComingSoon

Clicked on few links and found that Feb is Chinese month and French in March!

Don't mind watching foreign movies with subtitles - a break from usual Hollywood 3D junks.

The ones that stand out to me are True Grit, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest, Unknown, Hereafter, Never let me go, The rabbit hole, Lincoln Laywer. If rom coms are your thing then No Strings attached or Friends with benifits. Two awesome movies that may still be showing in Feb are The Fighter and Black Swan

    • Feb/Mar is usually oscar month should be some major releases coming up

  • oh cool its on event site too not just village

    time to stock up

  • When I purchasing tickets with my credit card, their website response:

Oops! Unfortunately we have been unable to process your request at this time.

We have not taken any money from your nominated credit card, but we recommend you double-check your account to be sure.

Decent bargain, but considering i can go to Southbank Cinemas in Brisbane for cheaper, makes me laugh at over priced Birch/Event.

Bought 1 ticket, had $7.60 in my paypal account. :D

My local Event cinema only has Vmax, 3D, or GoldClass. So there is no $7 movie.

    Event bargain price:
    $10 Vmax, $13 3D.

    Southbank 3D
    Adults $13.00
    Students/Seniors $11.00
    Children $9.00
    Pensioners $9.00

    Southbank Norm:
    Adults $6.50 - $8.50
    Students/Seniors $5.50 - $6.50
    Children $4.50
    Pensioners $4.50 - $6.00

    • Which cinema ONLY has Vmax, 3D, or GoldClass in Brisbane? Chermside and Indoorpilly still have the majority of sessions in "regular" cinemas.

      • Oh, i've probably made a mistake. It's Indooroopilly i was talking about. The website shows only Gold Class, Vmax, and 3D. And then has a checkbox for Show All. I thought this meant those were the only 3 types.
I thought that all Event cinemas were "Vmax", and it's just a buzz word for; quality cinema experience or whatever.

  • I haven't been the cinema for more than a year, there is simply nothing that I think is worth paying the premium for, especially when most movies will be out on DVD within a couple of months after the cinemas stop showing them.

    P.S. good deal, nonetheless.

I was more concerned by the T&C

Not valid at Village Cinemas in Victoria & Tasmania or Event Cinemas New Zealand.

How do I use these tickets when I am in Victoria?

    • Looks like only one cinema to use the voucher in Victoria

This is a Greater Union cinema according to the website

      http://www.eventcinemas.com.au/Cinema/Melbourne-City-Cinemas

      Melbourne City Cinemas
131 Russell Street, Melbourne, VIC, 3000

      • It's a good cinema (Very popular in the days Greater Union was separate) just under promoted. The main screen has a huge number of seats.

        • Thanks for the feedback, never tried this cinema before so might give it a try. Also gonna buy some Village tickets cause it's nearer to my place.

I bought 8 tickets for 56 bucks using paypal, checked my bank account and I had been charged $64. I guess this means you get charged the dollar booking fee.

    • I also brought 8 tickets this morning, however I used my credit card to pay.
Read your comment and double checked my netbank to see how much I was charged (as the commonwealth now shows pending transactions) and I am being charged $56…
Maybe some system error? anyways no where on their website says theres a booking fee?

      Hi bym,
You don't need to vote negative for this reason.

  • +2

i bought 4 (confirmed via email, i got 4 codes) pay by paypal, but i only charged $16 on my paypal email also i went to my paypal account it is $16 payment, wonderful but strange

    • +3

I just checked mine, and I'm in the same boat.

      4 tickets (codes) for $16 via PayPal, $4 a movie = score :)

Looks like there is an integration issue when using PayPal.

    • +1

The same thing happened to me - got 4 codes but only charged $16. Bargain!

    • Did it say "You are about to purchase these Vouchers: Total tickets: 4, Total cost: $28.00" in the bit to "Buy Now", but only actually charged $16 from PayPal?

    • Ha, yeah I didn't notice it til you mentioned it but I got charged $4 for 2 tickets. Paid by paypal too.
Hope I can use it successfully. :)

  • Haha yeah, says "“You are about to purchase these Vouchers: Total tickets: 2, Total cost: $14.00” but in paypal only got charged $4. Bought twice so only paid $8 for 4 tickets :)

    • Must be a lucky few

      • so you got charged $7 for each ?

        to answer below query:
hmm i use paypal alot so i put my bank and CC there. zero balance at paypal but when i pay something it will debit my bank acct straight away.

        • No cheapies for me, got charged $14 for 2 tickets using PayPal which draws from my Direct Debit Mastercard.

  • Are those using Paypal using existing funds in their Paypal account or funds taken out of a savings/credit bank account?

    • I'm using funds from a credit card, no existing funds. And using firefox 4 as a browser.

      • Anyone confirm that it still works

        • +2

I just bought another 4 (from work) and was charged $28. I think they have fixed it.

  • Thanks h4lcyon. I had no existing funds and was charged $14 ($7 per ticket)for 2 tickets unless they take another $2 out of my bank account as per others, when it shows up. Mine shows up the next day for some reason.

  • Just booked some tickets to a VMAX(+$3) 3D(+$3) movie and only had to pay an additional $6 per ticket.

The booking fee of $1.10 is included in the pre-purchased ticket.

    • I wasn't so lucky. I tried booking a 3D session, only for it to fail during payment. I wasn't issued my tickets, yet I was still charged the surcharge.

      • when did you book your tickets for? Is the session after the 1st of Feb?

        • It was before February 1, but there was a link to redeem the codes, so I assumed they had lifted the date restriction. The whole transaction proceeded as per normal until they processed my payment, at which point, the server choked and the site was left inaccessible for a few hours.

The whole experience was just one giant glitch.

  • Just picked myself up some tickets, these are the movies i'll be using them on… not much else worth while out in Feb, March… THOR the movie just misses out!

The Warriors Way - Out now.
    No Strings Attached - 10 February 2011
    I am Number Four - 24 February 2011
    Way Back, The - 24 February 2011
    Battle Los Angeles - 17 March 2011
    Sucker Punch - 24 March 2011
    Mechanic, The - 31 March 2011

  • Where do I go to redeem the e-ticket? Can't find any link on the eventcinemas site.

    • According to the text in the post they cannot be redeemed until the 1st Feb.
So if you select a session for after the first of feb and go through the usual ticket purchase section then on the page where you select how many tickets you want there is click link titled "Click here to redeem Friends and Family tokens" it is directly under the promo code field and above the Qty fields

      • Found it, thanks.

  • this is great thanks!

  • does anyone know what this means??

    • Sessions will go on sale each week by 5pm Tuesday for sessions from that Thursday

can i watch multiple movies in the one week ? or does it mean i have to book in advance days before the day i want to watch a movie ???

    • +2

You can watch as many as you like in a week and you can book however much time before hand that you want, the note is just letting you know when they update the session times for the coming week

  • anyone know if you can use this for films in the chinese and french film festivals??

  • Does anyone know how long it takes to get the email with the codes? I forgot to write down the unique codes at the time of placing the order and haven't received any email yet.
