I think iPhone 6 is showing its age and iOS 12 is only going to make it worse.
Wouldn't recommend anything older than 6s.

    • Just worse? Put iOS 12 on it and it will die ;)

iOS 12 is 30% faster than 11.x on an iPhone 6 according to this article, https://9to5mac.com/2018/06/05/ios-12-speed-test-heres-how-f…

      • Wow! The 5s is getting iOS 12. That means it’s had 6 years of support. And it’s faster on iOS 12 beta. The 6 needed performance improvements.

wait till you try android …..updates for 2 years then buy new phone if you want more updates ….yes i’m an android phone user but also, own an ipad so i see how both companies support products.

@garage sale: Though you can get a good Android phone for 1/3 the price of an iPhone, so just buy a new phone every 2 years.

But I agree that the lifetime of Android phones is atrocious. Even the Pixel 2XL is only guaranteed 3 gates of updates.

@garage sale: But you have custom ROMs.

          @vodkamilkshake:

Custom Roms are a lot of work picking thru what works and what doesn't, plus you need to unlock the bootloader (some won't unlock), install custom recovery blah blah blah, hardly a trivial exercise for a casual user.

Then you always end up with some Bluetooth or WIFI bug, only to have to reflash something else. OK if you don't mind tinkering, but if you want your phone to just work it's a PITA.

For my current phone, I purchased a Nokia 6.1. It's Android One so it's will get P and it's cheap enough that in 2 years time when official support ends I can just roll it over for a new device.

In terms of official support certain iPhones offer better value than any Android. The SE has always been a relatively affordable model and nothing will come close in the Android world to offering length of support at it's price point or higher for that matter.

Even if you buy a new phone every couple of years with Android, you are likely using older versions of Android with it. The cheaper android models lag behind with updates. Even my s8+ only recently got Oreo, and my bet is that it won't see any more major release beyond Android P (which will probably be 6 months after the pixels get it). The 5s was released around the same time as the note 3 at a similar price, and it's going to get support for another year. That's amazing, the note 3 lost official support years ago.

Negs? Seriously? There are some real die-hard apple fanbois here.

iOS 12 is only going to make it worse

Not according to Apple - at WWDC, they made some big claims about performance improvements for older devices (quoting up to 40% faster app loading and faster camera (-70%) and keyboard (-50%) launch times on the 6 Plus).

The 1GB RAM is the only major limitation, especially if you want to multitask. Though, I've been using the 5S recently on iOS 11 and am more than happy with performance (no app crashes/stuttering and can keep a couple of apps in the background).

  • what does Telstra pre-paid means ? condition ?
Can I buy this phone and use my Kogan number ?

    • You will probably need to get in unlocked via live chat with Telstra, should be free anyway then you can use your kogan sim.

  • and has band 28, even back them …..

so what is involved in unlocking, sign up for a month of telstra post paid, unlock for free and then don’t renew 2 nd month ?

    • iPhones should already be unlocked. Or you can do a iTunes restore to unlock it for free.

  • Does anyone know the unlocking fee?

    • Usually free.

      • that is what I thought, might just need the cheapest sim so you have an account with imei, number, name, etc and they talk to you from customer support.

    • I got my Telstra iPhone SE unlocked for free using this official Telstra website:
      unlock.telstra.com

Unlocked so I could get away from dealing with Telstra's piss poor value on their smartphone plans :)

Jesus, $400 for a phone with less power than a 1980s Casio calculator watch.

If you're happy with a smaller 4" phone,
iPhone SE 32gb $420 from Allphones ebay using pamper20

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Au-Stock-Apple-iPhone-SE-32GB-Sp…

    Much better specs

    • Been using an SE for a year now. No phone comes close to the ~3 days with 7 hours of screen on time that I get with it, and that's worth not having optical image stabilisation (the only thing I really miss from bigger phones). I've never had an android phone last me more than a bit over a day, they just start chewing through battery even with minimal apps installed and keeping vigilant eye on services that can cause wake locks.

I will say it's bad to pay more than $399 for the 32GB version considering that's the price there would have been 10+ listings for last year on this site at less than that, and and there's talk of a new SE2 coming very soon.

  • The Iphone 6 is a ding magnet. Beter go for 6s is you want something durable

    • They use the exact same chassis just with some minor differences in the mounting areas for the components.

      • That’s actually incorrect, Apple did make the 6S out of a different aluminium than the original 6. That said, I never had issues with my iPhone 6 back in the day. I think it’s very much overblown.
