First post.

I was looking for a durable laptop with at least 16gb RAM for work, came across this. Seems like a good deal compared to previous X1 carbon gen6 deals.
Exact spec cost $2225.26 on Lenovo official website.
This one has 3 year depot warranty vs 1 year if you buy on official website.
Storage is easy DIY upgradable.

  • Nice. I was looking for one of these vs the Lenovo Yoga 920. Still not sure which one I'd prefer. Though I've never been able to get my hands on one to get the feel of them. Might actually consider it if I wasn't leaving the country Saturday night for a month ;P

    • i'm in the same dilemma but my absolute necessary criteria is weight > processing power > aesthetics.

      too many choices :O

      • Well X1 Carbon is lighter and has more power than the Yoga 920 advertised earlier today

I would recommend the X1 carbon over the Yoga 920. I had a try with the Yoga 920 series in Microsoft store during December and first impression was the difference in quality - X1 carbon had a premium feel to it. I found the touchscreen totally useless during my use on the Gen 1 & Gen 2 X1 carbons. It also drained battery life quite a bit. Both are equally portable. Other than that I found the specs & etc to be quite similar (though I only had a play around with the Yoga for 10 minutes in store while I've used the X1 carbon for a few years).

        FYI:
this is a non-touch model with 1080P matte display.

        • That wouldn't be a killer for most people, but thanks. I was trying to figure out why it was cheaper than the same config from Lenovo

        • @Spectator:
$2225.26 on Lenovo official website is a non-touch 1080p display as well. Adding it would be an extra $150.

But I do agree with you, I have a Dell XPS 15 with touch display. I've personally rarely used, most of the time when I "use" it is when I try to point something on the screen to someone and accidentally touch it.

        • @fdsjkl: Mind linking me to the $2225.26 official website configuration? I can't find that.

        • Sorry, didn’t make myself clear. Yoga is touch series, I believe they don’t make touch model carbons anymore. I was using the touch model experience to say choose the non-touch carbon over the touch model yoga

        • @Zackyis:

i believe they don’t make touch model carbons anymore

It is a $150 option for this model. Just checked the configurator link from the OPs post.

        • Non glossy matte screen is a plus for me. I hate all the reflections from glossy screens.

1080p is IMHO better for Windows as high DPI scaling isn't that great. Also you'll get better battery life on this and on a 14" screen 1920x1080 is probably enough.

  • can stack Amex offer?

    • No, not for ebay.

  • i too was eyeing these during the last 20% ebay sale and a couple of days in this seller increased the prices so be quick if you want this config!

a few of us on whirlpool managed to get the top of the range unit (i7, 16gb, 1440p 500nit premium screen, 512 ssd, 4g) for $2511 delivered (provided you buy a couple of accessories on top)

    • through this ebay store or through Lenovo?

      • Through Lenovo rep

        • unfortunately those deals from rep will not stack up with cash back from cash rewards

        • @pginger: one guy on WP said he managed it.

          I didn't bother

        • @daft009:
I have asked, it be managed via SMB account, the price is bit higher than the price rep quoted

  • The X1 Carbon is a fantastic machine.

We use them at work - light, easy to carry, great to travel, very durable/tough

    • I've never spent so much on a laptop till this carbon and i'm sold!

I've always had a desktop and only used a ~$1k ultrabook for when I traveled (the odd trip every 2 months)..don't think I could go back now

Folks, I recently got a T480s with FHD display (same as this X1) and noticed that the screen is pretty average for AUD 2000 laptop. The display is only 250 nits… A comparison with the WQHD display is here https://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-ThinkPad-T470s-What-is-…
Please research this before you buy.

    • Pretty sure the display on T480s and the X1 carbon is different.
Here is a comparison of a video I watched last night between X1 Carbon, T480s, and T480. Link jumps to the side-by-side display comparison: https://youtu.be/gOsERJzMhLc?t=251
      Also good comparison here: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-ThinkPad-X1-Carbon-2018…

      • The notebookcheck.net link is for an X1 with WQHD (2650x1440) display. The eBay deal posted by the OP mentions and FHD IPS (1920x1080) display which is the same as my T480s

        • +1

Read further down. It also details the FHD IPS on the X1. It's only a little brighter compared to the T480s.
But you are right, they are similar if you don't go pay extra for the better panel. Makes me think it's worth the extra $$$ for it.
