googled photos, what's the next step?

googled photos, what's the next step?

          haha

I think what he/she meant that you can install google photos and auto upload all your pics/video there (it's all unlimited if you select their recommended settings) which will keep your iPhone with plenty of space. At least, it works for me!

Only get 5GB for free which isn't even enough for your device backup.

        • +5

@coxymla: I'm sure everyone with an iPhone X can afford A$1.50 a month for 50 gig.

        • @samBee: 50GB won't really go far, especially with 4K video recording nowadays.

        • @samBee: Exactly, ive got a 64gb iphone x and keep everything in the cloud, not much actually sits on my phone these days. Ive got a 200gb icloud allowance which is $4.49 per month ($50 per year), i also use itunes match which is like $30 a year to store all my music in the cloud (of course you can also use apple music and spotify etc). large storage options jsut dont appeal to me anymore, everything is heading into the cloud, its literally the physical apps on my phone that take up the space now. Even with ios 11.4 they store all your old messages and attachments in the cloud as well. Obviously everyones requirements are different but i only use about half of my 64gb and it never really changes. Ive got about 100gb of backups, photos etc in my cloud.

Did someone say use gift cards?? That sounds like a good idea.

  • $1587 total cost.

Good if you’re dead set on Telstra.

    • Yes it is $1587 but don't forget the plan's inclusions only lasts 12 months so after that you'll have to pay for the plan with whoever.

It'll be a helluva lot more if you're dead set with Telstra

      • Yep, we also have some contradictory logic if you need to be on Telstra but are able to take up an offer that requires porting in to Telstra.

        • Haha yeah true - although I was on Vodafail (poor 'regional/suburban' coverage) before hand and then moved on to Floptus (low speeds) so I realised I actually needed to be on Telstra..

        • +3

          @pennypincher98: That's not so bad.

A true OzBargainer would be trying out all the Helstra MVNOs (if not some that make wild claims about their Optus or Voda backends) before finally heading into the den of the multi-headed-frequency-monster that is Helstra.

        • @pennypincher98: Hellstra

        • @resisting the urge: Yeah that'll probably be my next stop after this contract - seeing if any of the Hellstra MVNOs can suffice.

        • +1

          @pennypincher98:

I'm lucky that my place is VodafoOK. Now using the $8 for 32G/6month together with Telstra's Simplicity, pretty satisfied.

    • +2

      And a $999 phone.

      JEEEESUS?!

  • Boy oh boy wowee!

    • +8

yeah it doesnt seem like such a great deal

you need to part with $1k on day one and then you're up for a $580 plan for 1 yr

      nah

      sounds like you're paying retail

      • +23

        sounds like you're paying retail

Retail is about $1,449 for the phone.

That means you're getting 25GB/month on Telstra for $11.50/month. Isn't that a great deal if you're after an iPhone X and a 25GB/month plan?

        • If 64GB isn't enough for you then you could chew through the 25GB allowance juggling videos and app redownloads.

        • +2

@AustriaBargain: you can set the App Store and iCloud to do their business on wifi only.

        • and some, its $1,579 for an iphone x 64gb. So youre getting $580 off an iphone x which is ridiculously good value for an apple product. Or the telstra plan for the 12 months works out at $588, so youre getting an iphone x at cost price and a 25gb, unl calls and text 12 month telstra deal for free.

How you can say this isnt a good deal is ridiculous.

      • +2

Do you need a plan for your new phone? How can you use your new phone without any plan?

      • And dat ugly notch….

    • +7

This plan includes 25GB? What’s your point?

    • +3

main point is the phone for $999. Sell that for $1300 and you have the plan for $20 a month

      • +2

        …and no phone.

  • +8

Not a cracking deal because iphone x will be outdated in 3 months. Also $49 is too much unless 25gb is must.

    • How much do you expect the new Iphone X?

When can you get the new phone?

    • -2

After signing up to this, like any Telstra 'deal', the sting will come as fast than the tip of a returning bull-whip.

The value of the plan will continue to reduce rapidly as the marketplace stabilises and Telstra mobile finally does something to shore up its rapidly depleting subscriber base. This will make the $49/25GB plan look more expensive than it already does.

And, in <2months, the value of the phone could drop, depending on what happens at @WWDC.

      • +5

WWDC just happened. It's a software keynote, always has been.

And, in <2months, the value of the phone could drop

Not '<2,' the new iPhones will launch September earliest, or late Oct-early Nov if it follows cadence of previous launches. And, 'could' drop? This invariably happens every year when a new model launches.

    • +1

they wont replace the X this year
It will get a small spec bump only and a larger screen version will be released.

      • And you can confirm this because?

        • +1

Its pretty well leaked these will be this years upgrades. Its really just the standard 's' upgrade to last years line. The big change will be the '+' edition to the X, design wise they will look the same, just larger '+' model.

        • Its widely known that they wont be changing the X this year.. wont even get an S name.
an X Plus will launch (6.5 inches) and the iPhone 9 will be same design as X (6.1 inches) but with LCD screen (not OLED) and all models will get a spec bump.. thats it.

    • also… better not buy a new phone… will be outdated in 11 months 28 days ….

  • +1

Not really that big of a deal. Waiting for Optus to beat it.

I remember Optus giving away the 64gb IP8 for free on a $59/month plan earlier in the year - that was a sweet deal ^_^

    • +10

BUT, THAT IS 2 YEARS CONTRACT.You cannot compare Iphone 8 with Iphone X. Totally different product.

      • -4

        same shitty iphone

        • Sure, but then again, all phones are shitty, some worse than others. The majority are designed for the benefit of parties other than the User, who just gets (ab)used/reamed, day in, day out.

      • +5

That was a heck of a deal though: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/348477

$59/month for 20GB data + $200 EFTPOS gift card. and this was only a few months after launch

        • Glad i got this! Best iPhone deal I've seen so far

        • Floptus though, Idk about quality and service, but certainly is a good deal!

    • +10

      Are you 12 years old?

If I want this deal and am already on Telstra (prepaid), do I have to port out to another provider tonight then port in again tomorrow when I go in to JB?

    • +1

jb have had this telstra arrangement for a while. previously you could port and get a $200 gift card. you can port from prepaid - just buy a $2 sim. (of course if you want to keep you current number, you have to port twice)

      • A friend just tried that in store. He bought and activated an Optus prepaid sim today, then went to JB. The guy at JB said Telstra will reject the port if the SIM hasn't been active for 4 weeks because people keep buying $2 sims to take advantage of deals like this, and refused the sale.

Not sure if the JB guy was just being overly cautious…

        edit: Looks like it's [a thing now](https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/3818150.

        • Link not found

        • @Hungrybonegaming: Hmm an extra 0 got in there somehow.. oh right, looks like I missed a shift.
          Here it is.

  • Is the phone unlocked?

    • +3

No non-prepaid phones in Australia are locked. They haven't been for at least a decade.

    • Yes it has to, JB dont sell carrier branded phones.

      • +1

        Even carrier-branded phones are unlocked.

There is no reason to lock phones on a plan. The carrier will be getting their money regardless of who uses the phone.

        • True, but at least you wont see the telstra logo on startup when you buy it from JB, as compared to buying from telstra,

        • @amshopping: Doesn't usually happen on iPhones

  • Great deal not considering the phone plan! But including still decent!

  • Wow what an sweet deal. Working till 5 tomorrow but i know chadstone is open till 9 so ill head there after work. i hope they still have stock!

  • +1

Seems JB has the bonus offer still available if this does not appeal
    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/features/phones/activatenow/

    • It appeals to me but I have 2 more months left on last years equivalent plan but with 20gb and I'm tempted to pay it off and port out/in and pray to old gods and new ones that they accept it o_O

      • I bought the iPhone X 256gb for ~$1450 from officeworks with price match (last deal here)

So definitely the 25gb $49 plan suits me… $200 voucher would do me nicely

  • Anyone taking this deal around Indooroopilly want to swap the iPhone for a Pixel 2 XL Black? PM me.

  • I just signed up for this, and then the Telstra deal comes through as $59. OH THE PAIN. I am currently chatting to a friendly consultant. Anybody else had this problem?

    • you have a $10 credit each month as a port in credit so it ends up being $49

  • So in addition do we get the $200 Jb hifi gift card?

  • +1

you get the receipt with the full amount as they provide a $580 gift card and then you put the remaining 999 for the iPhone good for anyone planning to claim TRS. I used gift card so cost me 924 for the actual phone and now can claim about 143 back in trs so not a bad deal.

    • Thanks, just had one from North Sydney just 15 min before close. TRS$170 with apple care plus.

  • +1

Sensational timing, was going to buy a replacement iPhone8 for the wifey, this came in right on time, thanks to the OP…

    Winner winner chicken dinner

  • Yup - Great deal - Picked up on as well - Tax invoice says GST is $143.54 because they did it the discount via a JB Gift Card of $580 - A bit extra to collect via TRS! :) [EDIT - As above by nawapb !]

  • Don't forget this deal to get an extra 5gb per month.

Now to try to get another $10 off..

  • Wish this was still available killer deal.
