Just in France now and I used a normal day pack. Even that at about 6kg is a pain. Worst thing is when you're queuing and slowly inching forward - you either wear it or have it on the floor bending to move it bit of the crawl. The best arrangement I saw was a wheeled cabin bag that has a sleeve on the back that you can slide the handle of your check in back through. That way the cabin bag rides on top of the bigger one. This one seems to have that and the option to day pack it.
I have an Osprey 2 wheeler check in which is great. I'd go for a 4 wheeler cabin bag rather than this 2 wheeler for the reasons above.
Now I've seen everything. Just got an email while writing the above for a cabin bag that follows you under it's own power! A snip at US$319 (RRP US$799!).

Thanks OP - lot of cheap stuff coming out of SportsDirect.
Note JetStar carry-on is 7kg with dimensions L56 x W36 x D23cm, so this is reasonably close at L50 x W30 x D20cm if that's how you travel.
This comes close to perfect JetStar carry-on for anyone interested, and this might work also if i could find the complete dimensions.
