Anyone using these? How does the build quality compare to the Inspirons?
The Vostro should be made of better materials and have a better engineered chassis as the Vostro line are the entry level business laptops, where as the Inspiron are mainstream home use ones. The Inspiron has the XPS and Alienware lines ahead of it and the Vostro has the Precision line above.
The same should apply to the quality of IPS LCD used. The Inspiron uses a very average IPS panel with 35% of adobe RGB coverage and slow response times.

I can't find any information on the LCD used in the Vostro though, but if it uses the same 1080p panel as the XPS then it's a big step up from the Inspiron.
The Vostro comes with a really beefy 180w adapter, I don't think the Inspiron one is that powerful but they would draw the same amount of power from the wall during normal operation as they have the same internals - maybe the Vostro has a larger battery or supports quick charging that the Inspiron doesn't.
It's subjective, but I think the design of the Vostro is much nicer design of the Inspiron also. Appears to have a slight taper towards the front that the Inspiron doesn't have (so possibly slimmer when comparing the thinnest points but same as thickest). The Vostro is also 200g+ lighter.
Hey cObalt, please let me know if there is a software to determine display type, so that I can share details here.
Sure, but you don't need any special software to check.
Easiest way is to open Control Panel, go into Device Manager, right click on your monitor (most likely will say Generic PnP Monitor) and open the properties, select the details tab, then in the Property drop down menu select Hardware Ids.
That value should be your LCD panel. In my HP Pavilion Power 15 it says AUO41ED, which matches up with the panel that notebookcheck.com says comes with my laptop and gives their tests based on it.
But then I've also read that my panel shares the exact same model number as one used in a lower spec machine with lower brightness and less colour accuracy (mine is average as is, very similar to the Dell Inspiron IPS). So at least in the case of my panel there are two versions of it :/
Let us know what panel your Vostro has. If it shares the same model as the XPS rather than the Inspiron, then IMO it's a big draw card for getting the Vostro over the Inspiron if image quality is important.
@c0balt: Thanks for info, checked the specification and the panel type is LGD053F. I checked Dell support website with my service tag and it has these details if anyone can decipher:
391-BDJG : 15.6-inch FHD (1920 x 1080) IP S Anti-Glare LED-Backlit Display
XNHVP: INFORMATION, SWSI, LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY, 15.6, NON-TCH
4XK13: LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY, 15.6FHD, IN PLANE SWITCHING, AG, EDP1.2, LEGEND
Cheers, no worries.
From that it appears the Vostro uses the same panel that is used in the Inspiron

Not a bad panel, just not as awesome as the Sharp panel used in the XPS line.
I own a Vostro with 1050Ti, build is really good and fast booting. But it is heavy. Personally I like it. You can ask me if you needs to know more.
Hi Veera, are you happy with the screen?
I like it, but bezels are large.
does it come in black?
How does this compare to the 7000 gaming series?
