MEDION 10" Netbook N455, 1GB/250GB, 6 Cell, Win7, Ex-Demo $299.96 Shipped [OzStock]

90

Another Netbook deal for those who keep missing out, and want something higher quality than the eMachines EM350 3-cell.

These Medions sell at Aldi and get good reviews. This one is a refurb (whatever that means) but still has full 12mth warranty.

Normally $389. Ozstock have them $289.98 + $9.98 flat shipping = $299.96

N455 Atom, so uses DDR3 RAM. Obviously the overall grunt will be similar to any other single-core Atom but they did manage to get it under the magic $300 mark for a 6-cell with Bluetooth. Price is comparable to the other 6-cell N455's like the Lenovo S10-3 which currently sells for about $330 at the moment.

• New Intel® Atom™ processor N455
• Genuine Windows® 7 Starter
• LED backlight display 1024 x 600
• Integrated Bluetooth® 2.1
• 250 GB hard drive
• 6-cell Li-ion battery
• Integrated 1.3 MP webcam with microphone
• 1 GB DDR2 SDRAM
• Latest wireless LAN
• Cardreader SD and MemoryStick
• 3 x USB 2.0

Bundled software pack is better than most Netbooks…
MS Works 9
Windows Live Essentials (isn't that free anyway?)
Office Home & Student 60 day Trial (must pay to register)
Cyberlink Power DVD, YouCam, YouPaint
CorelDraw Essentials
Bullguard internet security (90 days only)

yeh i saw this email…was thinking meh not gonna post since, the netbooks hitting 199 lately and this been ex demo too, but then u get bigger hdd and 6 cell. still not worth it tho imo.

Yeah, I was a bit meh as well. But then I thought about it… I paid $316 for the Lenovo S10-3 and $207 for the EM350, and probably would have bought this Medion instead of the Lenovo except for the fingermarks (Lenovo is matt lid).

There IS a considerable difference in quality between these $300 machines and the $200 eMachine EM350 (I've got both). Worth $100 more? I dunno - the way I worked it was that a decent battery was going to cost me $50 and there was still the lack of Bluetooth and only 2xUSB ports - that was the killer for the EM350, because you're battling for USB ports after adding a BT dongle so you can tether it to a phone.

But if you want the CHEAPEST, this is not the right product. Just like a decent Logitech system is not the right product for somebody who wants the cheapest possible set of speakers.

      • haha yeah
specs on this is great for this price, too bad its an ex-demo, but then it has great specs!!!

  • Given the specs, I reckon this is a pretty decent price! ;)

3x USB is good, the two USB ports on my eMachine is a bit crippling occasionally. Bluetooth built-in would mean you don't need a dongle so you can actually use all your ports for something other than a mouse or keyboard.

My eMachine was $210 after rebate from memory, but to get a 6 cell battery, bluetooth and a bigger hard drive would cost at least $100 more. $299.96 is a bargain if you want something a little higher spec than the $199 eMachine specials of late.

I'm not too fussed about refurb stuff. If it lasts you 12 months under warranty it has equal chance of lasting much longer or dying soon after.

In the past the term "ex-demo" has been used to describe "customer returns" under the Aldi 60 day return policy. I can only imagine this will be the case here also. Display case models in Aldi stores are sold instore by progressive discounting.

You'd want to enquire about their dead pixel policy before committing to one of these.

      • I received my order today.

The box has been opened but the Windows 7 was not activated.
