Only one problem… Australia will be blocked from Amazon from Tomorrow… http://mobile.abc.net.au/news/2018-05-31/amazon-to-block-us-…

    • +2

How is that a problem today?

    • +11

Tomorrow is June 1st Not July 1st

    • +4

You will still be able to buy goods from the US.

      • yep ……..

now to find cheapest drop shipper in the USA …..this will become a hot topic on ozbargain, cheap and fast drop shippers.

nice thing used to be the cheap shipping amazon had on smaller items …..

If you voted for Libs you voted to lose money because Libs is transferring the tax burden from business to you for example by allowing the top 500 businesses by market cap to pay 2% tax with most of even this pitiful amount paid by the lower half and expanding the already implemented GST on individuals to cover these purchases.

I hope you don't vote to lose even more of your money next time, personally I like to hang on to my money unlike your good selves.

Labour is just as bad for not repealing it.

      • +3

I don't like the gst on imports under $1000 policy.
BUT Labor won't repeal it, and I will have more money under the Libs so this issue will not change my vote.

        • -4

Armchair experts like him just like to dummy spit from time to time. Makes them feel above everyone else.

        • +6

Well there is your problem. You will get what you deserve. Good and hard. This has reenforced my decision to no longer vote for the libs, they have become just a less organised version of the ALP.

This expansion of the GST will cost more to collect than it will raise, and was done to appease Gerry Harvey.

Which reminds me, the other thing I am going to do is go down to Harvey Norman tomorrow and wet one of the beds

        • +1

@entropysbane: A bed wetting campaign to protest the amazocalypse? I like it. I'm gonna go to Kirribilli House and pee in Malcolm's bed.

      • Given that this is a policy supported by both Labor and Liberals means both deserve the ire of the electorate. And if we were serious about sending a message, every single person here would be boycotting Gerry Harvey and his businesses to send a message that this is about choice and competition, not saving 10% by avoiding the GST.

        • +3

problem for amazon is collecting gst in the usa on a $us transaction doing currency conversion, buying $au and holding to,pay gst in $au …..there is a currency % vs buy and sell, etc,etc … and if they get it all wrong they’re wear the error.

if they hold it as $us and $au goes up when it’s time to,pay gst they also loose on exchange rate ……..

why take on the hassle and risk ….. up to now you buy is $us your credit card provider bills and does currency conversion, amazon ships and takes their % in $us.

currency conversions and exchange rates on an hourly basis are a risky business and hence the added margins , trading rooms banks have, etc …….

for amazon the $500m they ship, into, australia , a small part of that is amazon profit, most is sellers cost for the goods and their margins …… why take on the hassle and risk for such a small amount and redo your systems including your US one and if you get it wrong like a lot of software systems your are screwed …..commbank gets software wrong, telstra gets software wrong , why screw with your global systems just for the gst in australia …..

        • @garage sale:

Great plain language explanation. Thank you for that.

As other's have already pointed out, the onus should be on the government, or Australian Customs, to collect the duty as the goods come in (send notification for payment of duty, store it, etc).

This is what other countries do, but I think our government went down a rabbit hole.

      • +6

I still hate the libs for making the NBN useless. No libs for me.. ever

        • +1

          nbn was useless from inception…

    • What month are you in. Are you from the future?

For those after a power supply and aren't sure, 550W is actually great for most moderate setups with a single gpu; especially with the lower power gpus of late.

The PSUs are most efficient around 80% load…ish…and while it doesn't make a huge difference, bigger is not always better =)

    • Just ordered the 650w from the other deal about 4 hours ago.. I'm sure the 550w was more at the time.

550w would be plenty for my needs, and saved a few bucks.

Around 50% load is usually where they are most efficient (this one being gold rated at least 92% @ 50)

      • +3

As long as the item is not ship yet, you can cancel the order, and get this one.

  • +3

The 650w model is also on sale for an extra $10 USD.

  • This PSU or the 650 Watt one? My set up is i7K haswell (4th gen) 16GB memory, 2 Mechanical drives, 2 SSD, GTX 1060 I think I have 5 case fans, maybe 6. I would appreciate some advice please.

    • 650W because $10 for 100W

    • how aggressive is your overclock? a high overclock on CPU and GPU can stress a power supply.

      https://outervision.com/power-supply-calculator

is a great tool to dial in your expected overclock and get a decent estimate of how much headroom you need.

for my 3930k @ 4.7ghz and gtx970 at stock with custom water cooling pumps i went with the EVGA G2 850w which was massive overkill but my other option was a EVGA G2 750w and i didnt know component power use was going to start decreasing

    • +1

Similar setup here - 6700K (stock speed), GTX 1060, 16GB RAM, a pair of 12TB HDDs, a few SSDs and 3 case fans. Simultaneously running Prime95 plus Furmark plus copying between the HDDs, it pulls a bit under 250W at the UPS. No sweat for my trusty 7 year old 400W fanless Seasonic PSU :)

    • Having a bit of an overspecced PSU can also result in lower PSU fan speeds and less noise.

  • Damnit, thought they'd have a few more sales on.
I've been looking for a 1000w one for about $200-$220 AUD and having no luck. :(

    • Just interested what system do you have that need a 1000w power supply for?

      • +3

        8 GTX 1060s mining

        • +1

Yeah I'm afraid to say, for fear of the backlash!

        • @Deviner: No backlash from me mate! I used a paperclip to connect a few lower-wattage power supplies to some of my GPUs without a motherboard attached. Pretty ghetto but works really well.

        • @idonotknowwhy: Hahaha, that is pretty ghetto alright - lovin it!

    • It is not 1000w, however you get get the EVGA 210-GQ-0850-V1's for around $220 delivered. 8 x PCI-E connectors :)

      • Cheers mate - I've got an 850 at the moment and I'm hitting about 780w under load and getting too many crashes! :(

        • Withdrawn

    • What efficiency are you looking for Gold or Higher

  • +1

$17 more for a 650 watt. (If you needed more.)

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/381316

  • I just bought a Corsair CX650M before seeing this, is this a better model?

    • No, not at all. They are comparable. The cx650 is a very good psu.

      • Thanks I only noticed this is fully modular and gold so got a bit concerned, hopefully they're around the same.

  • How would this go for warranty claims in Australia?

    • Not very good,

From my research a while ago, if you had an issue with it you'd have to send it to EVGA Taiwan (international claims centre) at your own expense. As Amazon US won't be able to do you a return unless DOA. Even if Amazon US help you out you would have to ship it back to them (at least $50-$80) by my guess)

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Note: My research was with a EVGA GPU and from Newegg

  • Extra $29 for Aussie stock equivalent corsair with 10 year warranty that can be claimed with a lot less hassles than with a US purchased PSU

    https://www.pccasegear.com/products/33827/corsair-rm550x-550…

Not many places have the EVGA units in Aus anymore which is a bit of a shame.

  • Amazon gonna block Australians from buying internationally on their website lol

Soon only going to use the crummy Amazon AU site

    • Simples VPN+Forwarder and you're buying from Amazon US again
