  • Which OW? Might be a store special.

  • Requires four toner cartridges at around $71 each, LOL. First lot of toner twice the purchase price of the printer!!

  • Searched for it out of curiosity. It uses the host computer to do the rendering. For Linux there is a foo2hp driver from HP, but there is no Mac support so Mac users take note.

    • That's odd. I thought Macs used the same Unix print system as Linux. (CUPS)
It should be trivial to port the drivers. Maybe HP hates Apple?

      • Well I didn't do an exhaustive search, but I suspect it's possible to compile the HP drivers under OS/X. In fact somebody may already have. But I saw nothing ready to install at the HP site. The drivers are actually independent of the spooling system, whether it be CUPS, lprng, or classic lpr. They usually call ghostscript to do the rendering.

  • " First lot of toner twice the purchase price of the printer!!"
    so what's new? :U

i thought handwritten tags were only for one off specials like returned stock, but a quick check shows $138 online

buy a refill kit on ebay for $46 (including shipping) for all four.

1 bottle 55g black toner for CB540A,2000 pages

1 bottle 45g cyan toner for CB541A,1400 pages

1 bottle 45g yellow toner for CB542A,1400 pages

1 bottle 45g magenta toner for CB543A,1400 pages

  • does it come with any toner?

    • enough for 750 pages ( 5% surface printed)

  • Got one a year or two ago for the same price plus HP cashback so that thing cost me essentially nothing :D

Good printer for what it is, nice and quiet and warms up quickly. Better off getting a photo specific inkjet or Snapfish for photo duties.

    • Same here, got it for effectively $50 including the cashback about 2-3 years ago (cashback took about 9 months to arrive though — HP got a slap on the wrist from the ACCC for the running of their cashback programs).

Good printer (great for the price I paid) for basic text/graphic documents. Refill kits off eBay work fine, and can be had for under $50 for all four toners nowadays. Doesn't officially support Mac or Linux, but you can install on both if you're willing to fiddle around with foo2hp.

  • Been on this price for a long time. That are getting rid of it because it's already obsolete.

  • I bought this. It's a monstrosity.
I can't afford the toners so I'm getting rid of it to get a newer model! :)
