just came across this not everyone will be eligable but those that are will benifit.

Book an appointment for a free home power assessment before 1 February 2011 and go into the draw to win one of 5 grocery vouchers worth $1,000.

Once you've had your assessment, tell your family and friends to join the program.

If they do and say that you referred them, you'll get another entry into the draw!

What will I get by joining?

Through the Home Power Savings Program, 220,000 eligible households will save up to 20% a year on their power use.

Every eligible household that joins the program will get a FREE:

Home power assessment by an energy expert to identify ways to save power in the home
Power Savings Kit to help kick start savings which includes:
stand-by saver power board
4 energy efficient light bulbs
low flow showerhead
shower timer
tap aerator
draught-proof strips for around the door
door snakes.

Who can join the program?

To be eligible for the program you must live in NSW and contribute to the power bills for the property.

At least one person in your household must have one of the following cards:

Centrelink Pensioner Concession Card
Centrelink Low Income Health Care Card
Department of Veterans' Affairs Pensioner Concession Card
Department of Veterans' Affairs (Gold) Repatriation Health Card
Department of Veterans' Affairs (White) Repatriation Health Card

OR
be a recognised energy utility hardship customer
You'll need to confirm your eligibility when joining the program.

    I've commented before about these:

    low flow showerhead

    Many people who install these stupid things soon find they have NO hot water. They can reduce water pressure so much that your water heater will not engage, and you'll be stuck under a cold shower. We wasted hundreds of dollars on plumbers for our block of flats, only to find all the affected tenants who complained of a broken hot water system had installed these stupid things which were sent out for free by some environmental outfit.

    You've been warned!

      So true, so true. Once we got this thing installed we weren't ab;e to have a shower properly for like 3 months. We though out gas water heater had went kapow. Only after changing the shower head to the original one did we realise this was the case.

          Our house has got one from the SA Water Rebate. You have to control the amount hot and cold water, otherwise you either get the super hot water from the heater or just the cold water from the tap. I nearly burnt myself while using it for the first time.

    What happens if you already have some of these in the home? Eg power saving globes and/or water saving shower heads do they still make you change them or do they just give them to you regardless.

      Generally they give you the lights regardless. They might not change your efficient shower head if you already have one. On the other hand, the moron plumber who came around to do some repairs for the body corp (not part of a campaign) changed my already efficient shower head which I liked without consulting me.

      They really just want to tick off dwellings from their sheet and use up the lights and shower heads they've been handed out.

    So Labour just screwed us over by selling asset that made NSW govt $10 billionpa profit for $400 million and they want to give us this crap before our electricity rates go up 6000% like the dump rates just did after they sold all the dumps to Macquarie bank….how considerate of them

    If you have a dog, be prepared to lock it up or they wont come out. We turned down offer to come out because they wanted our little maltese locked up.
