Similar to my last post almost a year ago, https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/311864

I'm a big fan of investing in classic casual menswear. Buy once, buy right. Versatile pieces that you can dress up and down, rather than seasonal Politix, Asos, H&M,etc one-hit wonder garbage. Hence, I love recommending the Harrington jacket from Ben Sherman.

My pick from Ben Sherman, the classic Harrington Jacket. This is the best value Harrington alternative to the original Baracuta G9. Usually, $159.95, and now $79, including the core colours Navy, Black and Sand.

https://bensherman.com.au/catalog/clothing/harringtons NO LONGER AVAILABLE

Their other well-known classic range is the Gingham Shirts,

Some guides on why every man should have a Harrington jacket in their wardrobe:
www.artofmanliness.com/2016/03/16/style-staples-the-harringt…
https://www.gentlemansgazette.com/harrington-jacket-baracuta…
https://ashleyweston.com/mens-wardrobe-essentials/essentials…

Think it's an old man's jacket? Perhaps the vintage Baracuta G9's and Ralph Laurens were, but the Ben Sherman has a contemporary, slimmer cut. If you think its an old mans style, stick to your low rise skinny jeans and tall tees.

MOD: According to Ben Sherman, 15% off coupon from welcome newsletter does not work with sale items, and cannot be used in this sale.

Update 1 June 2018 9:45am: The Harringtons are no longer available online.

        • Probably with chinos and jeans. Your advice is greatly appreciated.

          @Velt:

IMO the best value, ready to wear blazers, in Australia are from MJ Bale. Even better when on sale. Look for the softest, lightest constructed blazer from them.

I also like the range from Brooks Brothers. Timeless classics, but more structured and formal.

If you are lucky enough to be in Sydney, Suit Supply has one of the best ranges and value in the world!

Don't buy a jacket online. Try it in stores. Fit is critical

        • @zhenjie:

          Thanks!

No brooks brothers in WA it seems. I'll give MJ Bale ago, nothing on their website is on sale but I'll check out the store on the weekend.

          What about Rodd and Gunn?

        • @Velt:

Been liking the Rodd and Gunn range past few years. Excellent fabric. Have a more constructed look to them, which I think works for Aussies.

        • @zhenjie: I totally forgot Suit Supply was opening a store in Sydney!!!

        • @zhenjie:
          Many thanks!

        • @Munki: Not opening, been opened for a little while - doesn't have a big range though.

Was looking forward to trying out the MTM service, but the fitter seemed so-so.

        • @zhenjie:

Problem with MJ will potentially be the working button holes, unless you are happy to pay an arm to have them taken up by by the armpit. SuSu has enough variety in the blocks that you can work around their working button holes.

Brent Wilson suits are fused from my understanding?

        • @billbro: Yeah I meant I recalled they were opening a store here, but totally forgot to follow up on the progress.

In regards to Brent Wilson, yeah I'm pretty sure they're fused suits. Not sure you can get canvassed suits at those prices…

A place I've also heard of, but never tried, is Herman Bros at Burwood - but pretty sure they'd be pricier than places like Suit Supply.

The most economical way of getting that would probably be to travel to Asia…

  • OHHH sweet. Just got a whole back suit for $170!

  • Does anyone know where these are made? Should all Ben Sherman Harrington jackets be made in the UK, or they outsource them to China and other places? I ask that cuz a couple of years ago I bought one from an EziBuy deal that was posted here, and the quality wasn't that great, not sure if it had to do with the fact that it was made in China. Also it wasn't 100% cotton. Do they come in other fabrics, or they have to be 100% cotton?

    • Ben Sherman are made in China or elsewhere. Their core Harrington range is 100% cotton outer and excellent quality for its price. Your one may have been their budget windbreaker found in outlets and Costco. It's pretty bad.

      • Your one may have been their budget windbreaker found in outlets and Costco. It's pretty bad.

Very likely. The outer layer of mine was either polyester or some other fabric, and not definitely 100% cotton. It was cheap, so all good.

  • whats the go if i buy something and it doesn't fit properly? i know they say free returns on all orders but does that include clothes I've opened and worn?

    • With a bit of common sense with respect to the word "worn", you shouldn't have any problems.

    • Don't wear the clothes to go clubbing and ask to return them after…

  • Are there any places in Melbourne where I can try one of the Harringtons on?

    • Most Myers have a Ben Sherman concession. Or Chadstone for their standalone store.

    • I just tried oneon at myer

    • +1

My dad is 180 cm and 87kg. He is a large. Hope that helps.

      • Im 170cm and 110kg, I tell myself I'm a large.

  • +2

Myer stocks ben sherman harringtons if anyone wants to try one out

  • Bought.

Fyi I feel Ben Sherman sizes run a bit big. I was sure I would fit a large but after trying it on chose the medium as it felt a bit more snug. Depends on how you will wear it.

    • hi whats your height and weight?

      • Not sure about aimon but I'm 183cm and 82kg. I wear a large. I could fit a medium if I really wanted to go for that fitted look. But L was the sensible way to go especially if you're looking to layer.

        • 179cm and 80kg. I tried on Medium and Large. Both would do but Medium was on the smaller side of snug and Large was on the smaller side of relaxed (if that makes sense). I ended up getting the Large.

  • 180 and medium build, went for 2 Harringtons in large and 2 gingham shirts in large based on early comments saying they ran small now worried I should have went medium…

    • I bought large and medium. Free returns.

  • Great deal! I like their polos, can't go past a sub $29 polo

    • Are the sizes of the polos true to fit? Or they run large/small?

  • Thanks OP. Got one. Looks like it is extremely popular.

  • +1

Convinced me, not the missus though.
Hope this comes up next year too OP ;)

    • +1

Screw the missus. Both ways :)

    • +2

going to change missus by next year?

  • Thanks OP. Got Small in Navy.

  • Thank you, spent too much.

  • Great deal! Bought the Navy.

  • Thanks, already had a Harrington from last time, but picked up a pair of chinos. Their slim chinos are excellent and at $50.15 are a true bargain.

  • I already have a navy harrington. Wanted to get a sand colored one. Looks like it's out of stock.

  • Thanks OP, Harrington on its way along with a few extras!

  • +2

Just letting you know, the slim chinos are a bitch to iron and have to be ironed inside out or you get the shiny marks from the iron on the pants.
You can also use a thin cotton cloth over the pants to iron them.

    • Ended up buying some anyways. Why not, cheap enough. Heh.

  • +1

Bought a harrington and one of their lovely polos. Thank you OP!

  • +1

bought a navy harrington, can't lose with free returns.

  • Any decent recommendation on sports jackets? Looking for that casual corporate look (e.g. chinos, shoes, shirt).

  • IMO, the only person who could make this style of jacket look good is Steve McQueen. Can't understand the hype for them.

    • That’s fashion for ya mate. It is all subjective and comes down to personal taste.

  • Thanks OP. Bought one. Was always wondering what's the right name for these jackets. superb product, ideal for Russian squatting.

Also, I highly recommended rodd and gunn - nz brand that makes indestructible stuff. Cheers.

  • Has Ben Sherman stopped making shoes?

    • Don't seem to be any on the site, there is a shoes page (https://bensherman.com.au/catalog/shoes) but don't seem to actually have any shoes. I was hoping to replace my Ben Sherman Desert boots.

ASOS have Ben Sherman shoes though not sure if the prices are any good.

  • Do we know how long this is on for?

  • Picked up a Black and Navy Harrington. 100kg 5'10. Hopefully the XL will be big enough

    Thanks OP

  • I have a Navy hood Harrington jacket from Ben Sherman. Is it Ok to buy another Harrington jacket of same color?

  • Been wanting a Harrington for ages but too expensive. Ben Sherman is a brand I already wear and it's an awesome deal so got one in navy, thanks OP, very happy :)

  • Is anyone else getting a message saying "The Promo Code you entered couldn't be applied. You must not have a sale item in your cart." when trying to apply the 15% off BENEFITS coupon?

    • +1

      Same

    • Same

  • Benefits code not working for me - says can't use with sale items in cart. Even though the welcome email says it includes sale items. Very odd.

    • Same Here. Hope they fix, so I can buy

      • Or report them for misleading and deceptive conduct if they don't…

        • +3

OK I called them, and they fixed the code. Navy Harrington on its way :)

        • @h1tek: fixed it just for you, or on the website? Still not working for me.

        • @MrDixit: Just for him as it isn't working for me also.

        • @h1tek: thanks it worked for me. Ordered mine about 2 hour ago

  • +2

Uhhh so..I was going to purchase one before but decided to go and try one on first. Now that I have returned - that "BENEFITS" code is no longer working as apparently, the Harrington Jacket isn't a "sale item". Pretty annoyed with this as initially, the code worked. Now it isn't. What a let down.

UPDATE* So I spoke with a Ben Sherman rep - they are having issues with that code working and he recommend trying again tonight and tomorrow. Will update tonight.

    • Still not working :/

      • Coupon redemption limit has been reached.

        • +1

Phew I was so lucky to apply the coupon before this limit thingy. The coupon remains in my basket even after I left it for almost an hour, so I was able to still purchase it (and using a cashrewards)

  • Just ordered myself a Navy jacket. I had troubles with the Benefits code, but you HAVE to signup with your email at https://bensherman.com.au/email-updates for it to work. I created an account, thinking I would be signed up with the "Ok to email offers" option, but seems you also have to signup for the email list.

  • Received an email from Ben Sherman to request the removal of coupon code. It's from the welcome newsletter and cannot be used on sale items, thus not suited for this deal.

  • +1

Thanks OP, saw this yesterday but the sand colour one was sold out. I went in Myer today, and they had plenty of stocks and was happy to price match. PS, the Ben Sherman photography does not do this jacket justice. It looks ALOT better than advertised https://www.theiconic.com.au/harrington-jacket-453252.html

  • +1

Its obviously because people have been using the code without signing up for their database.
Fairs fair use the code sign up..

  • Still working - i.e. it just worked for me.

  • Tried out instore, medium was a snugger/sharper fit.
    Cheers!

  • -1

code worked for me without signing up last night. id say theyve woken up to the extra rort.

  • Code worked for me too. I did subscribe in the same session, don't know if that made any difference.

    • Likewise.

  • +2

Does anyone know how long it takes for a tracking number to come through? Ordered on Tuesday but its still listed as "processing"

    • mine came within about 24 hours

    • I ordered Tuesday as well with a polo shirt too. Still says processing.

    • I ordered as soon as this deal was posted and just received the tracking number then.

    • Still haven't received mine yet also. Bought on Tuesday 6pm.

    • +1

The Aus Post email says the package is coming from True Alliance. I ordered Tuesday and didn't get my tracking email until Friday.

  • Hubbies going to love this!!

  • They've yanked all Harrington jackets from the store.

    • Perhaps they just sold out?

    • That's a real shame. Perhaps no surprises, at that price + the New Signup Bonus, they were going for remarkably cheap.

      • +1

$65 is really all it's worth, Glue and a few other places had them at the same price. They'd still be making money. Its just a cotton jacket made in China.

        • Quality varies with other brands attempt at the Harrington. People pay $500 for an original, all relative.

  • +2

I bought one tonight at MYER for $79. Told them and showed them that the Ben Sherman website was all half price. The dude made a quick phone call to get it approved. Got a M and I wear M shirts. Would highly recommend trying on before buying.

  • I got a tracking number yesterday but it gives back invalid…anyone else with this problem?

    • Just got my tracking number and it says invalid as well. I'm assuming it'll update when it's first scanned in the Auspost network

  • Hey OP. Can you suggest other alternatives to the G9 Baracuta that actually has the red tartan inside? Thanks

    • Yep, Jump The Gun has a made in UK Harrington. My best value for money. Styled on the original G9 so not the slimmest in the arms. I love mine.

Merc so one with tartan and we'll priced. Fabric is more twill than smooth.

      • Thanks OP, they definitely look like the ones I’ll be interested in. Only way to get these are through online sites from outside Australia?

        • +1

The way I got it was through their website directly. Very cheap shipping to Australia if I recall, as they remove VAT to subsidise the shipping. Great small business to support!

        • @zhenjie: just ordered the beige one from jumpthegun. Thanks again :)

  • Just tried out the sizes at Myer and it seems like the M is a little too tight for me. (179cm 83kg and about 105 in chest)
Anyone willing to swap my M for their L/XL in Sydney?

  • Went to exchange in-store and they asked how much I paid. I needed a larger size and he said I had to pay $22 difference as the colour/material is different despite it being a Harrington.

Is this valid of them to do? It's the same cut, just larger and different finish.
