Yes, the encryption annoys me. I have a 1.5 TB WD portable. When I plug into the modem router, I can't see files.

Keep in mind WD usually solders the board on and uses hardware encryption. You can't shuck it and if the USB board dies you'd better have a backup, as opposed to just replacing the board for $10 or shucking with a Seagate.
