Unless rules changed it's normally not a dupe unless it's in the title.

  • +2

$65 bucks for a colour and black and white cartridge each good for an estimated 180 pages.

This is where they make the money.

    Doesn’t ink jet ink evaporate?

    • -2

That's why you don't buy refills. Why would you when the printer is cheaper?

      • +7

The tanks inside the new printers aren’t filled completely.

        • So? It's still cheaper IME.

        • +3

@Diji1: Possibly… however you are contributing to waste by perpetuating this. Just fork out for a laser printer (https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/c/technology…) and never look back.

I am still using the Laser Printer that I bought in 2011 on it's original toner cartridge. Total cost $49.90 including S+H.

Buyers beware, as I record they don't include the USB cable for the pc, you have to buy it separately unless you have one already.

    • +1

yup… the HN page does say "Note: Does not come with a USB cable"

    • +7

That was pretty normal back in the days I spent in retail. I vaguely recall Brother being the only exception

      • They still don't work half the time just like the good old days.

  • -1

Im not out of ink yet.
But might pick up a couple.
    Ive owned about 15.

    • Lol.. This is what I do as well when I ran out of inks.. Lol

    • How many pages do you print with each printer?

      • I tend to get around the 200 page range.

        • +1

Thanks, that’s a 9.5 cents per page. Better go printing at officeworks :) I’m thinking of getting an Epson EcoTank instead. 14k b&w pages + 11k color pages for $455 = 1.17c per page.

        • @Rosace: got a link for the cheapest place I might need this however I don't think I need to print more than a few hundred pages in a year. How long does ink last need a cheap print for just simple things both black and white and colour about 50/50 each and less than a thousand pages per year but want it to last the longest or more than ten years. Is this possible?

        • @AlienC: Sorry, I’m in the market for a printer since few days only so my knowledge about printers is limited. Appreciate if someone can step in and help AlienC.
In my comment above, I was talking about the Epson EcoTank ET-4750 as it’s 30% Off and at $455 currently at HN.

Anyone owning it able to give feedback?

You should learn how to refill them. While these cartridges are harder to fill than the see through ones, it is doable! I buy a litre of ink from China for like 20 bucks. Then you need to drill one hole in the black cartridge and just put in like 10ml, and for the colour cartridge, three holes and about 3ml in each hole.

      Works a treat!

The cheapest overall though is to just buy a printer with individual colour cartridges and refill them yourself too. Easy to refill!

    • Buy the replacement ink off ebay. 3rd party inks good enough imo and cheap as chips.

      • All Canon inks which come with three colours cartridges are bad as aftermarket. All these PG640/CL641/PG645/CL646 are just hell to work with as compatible inks. Tried in different variations (I was able to get free printers) and it never worked well.

  • Reminds me of the good old uni days, trying to print an assignment and the shitty inkjet decides to throw the towel the night before lol.

In all fairness, Canon has been good to me but my shitty Lexmark just put me right off inkjets

    Laser printers ftw!

    • Memories of Lexmark printers make me want to cut myself. Fuji Xerox is life.

Good old Uni days. Unlimited printing privileges for Computer Science students. Not quite sure why. Yes, everyone printed books just because we could.

    • I found a Canon LBP3300 Mono Duplex Laser printer on the side of the road and new toner cartridge for $18 on eBay. Changed my life.

    Saturday 26th only

$19 right now, from the link. Getting one to scan receipts.. dodgy fading carbon. dgaf about printing.

    • yeah i just bought one, click and collect from store, or delivery $5.95.

      • $9.95 delivery for me so more of a no deal.

  • Is this a wireless printer?

    • Not a wireless printer unfortunately

    • No.

  • Like numerous other OzBargainers I bought one of these for $19 about nine years ago, following a post on OzBargain. The cartridges were far more expensive than the printer itself. But that didn't bother me as I never took it out of the box. I sold it for about what I paid for it.

Practically, How does this one compares with the big w's hp?

  • Thanks. Buying to replace my cheap EPSON. I'll never get one of those again. Terribly unreliable.

    • +1

      Oh… Canon are worse IME.

I was a once a Canon devotee and became frustrated at purging ink cartridges trying to clean heads.

My Epson (old 6700d) just keeps ticking along nicely even on aftermarket ink (I buy the better quality "cheap sh!t ink").

Note, my bad experience with Canon's was with genuine ink, I'd not judge based on aftermarket consumables. It just so happens that the Epson is good with both genuine and (it appears) some non genuine ink.

IMO both have acceptable print quality when operating as expected. I'm basing my opinion on reliability and performance over time, to which IME Epson have well out performed the Canons I've had.

Does anyone have a recommendation for scanners?

    • +3

Who buys scanner alone these days? Most of the printers you see in stores are multifunction, that means you can print, scan & copy. They are cheap ass too.

      • +1

For those that are sensible and buy a B&W Laser printer rather than an all in one bubble jet. Laser are cheaper to run (unless one needs colour). The other reason are for those that don't print at all and scan everything (paperless office/home). Great for keeping records, receipts etc.

Stand alone scanners tend to be much faster, have better quality lenses and have more functions. The little Canon Lide220 scanners as an example only, are small but very handy for those that like to scan small amounts throughout the day. Wouldn't be without my scanner.

  • +1

This comes with ink already correct? Need something small for a few years only a handful of pages every few months like maybe 10-20 max.

    • +1

Might be better just going to Officeworks to print. Ink evaporates or gets clogged.

      • What's the longest lifespan of a printer or printer ink.

  • Just buy a cheap laser printer for B&W, if you only print colour occasionally, go officeworks.

    • Need something more local since I think the nearest printing place to me is a few km.

  • More landfill!!
However if you insist of being an environmental vandal this is imho still the prefered choice over the similar priced HP.
Less intrusive software, less airbubbles in start up cartridges, good chance to keep scanning with less time wasted…

    • What's the bomb landfill equivalent really prefer to just have one solid printer and use that for life.

      • +1

Get a laser printer… can be used for ages and ages.

  • Is it good option for scanner only?

    • As a basic scanner then yes. If you dont mind having a larger item on your desk compared to say a small stand alone scanner then sure. It also comes down to your scanning requirements as all in ones tend to be slower and not as good quality scans as stand alone scanners. They do however work well so yes you could indeed just use for scanning occasional items and for $19 a reasonable purchase if you have the space and just looking for a basic scanner. Remember…..you need to buy a USB cable if you don't already have one.

  • Can I connect this directly to a router? Like the ASUS RT-AC68U.

    • Not via WiFi, no. I highly doubt via USB either… I imagine the USB on that ASUS is just for file sharing.

  • I also saw Epson ones with cashbaxk. What’s a good photo one for the oldies with wireless? Thanks

  • Uhgh. From inheriting TWO of these from other people, and the exhorbitant crappy cartridges, I would feel better about this product if it was only the Scanner part for the same price.
