    Im intrigued to know what other people have used this for.

    Personally, i have used it with homeassistant to dim lights etc with the rotation

      I just grabbed 2. Been waiting for them to be sort of cheap for a while.

      The plan is to give 1 to each of the kids, let them decorate them, paint them, etc, Then we have 6 tasks we can choose to program into them so they can control things in the house. I'm thinking their toggle their bedroom lights, start their personalised music playlist on chromecast, etc. For the older one I think I will teach her that 1 of the patterns sends a message to mum and dad when we're at work so we can call home in case she needs to talk to us or whatever.

    Can this be used outside of the Xiaomi range of products? I've got a Xiaomi Gateway that's sole purpose is to communicate to a door sensor. My lights are a mix of Sonoff, Philips Hue and Nanoleaf. Does this work with ifttt so I can control other devices?

      If you have Home Assistant, it can control anything you've connected to Home Assistant. I control LIFX bulbs with mine, among other things.

      In the mi home software you can add automations and this device can act as a trigger.

    I just want to point out that contrary to comments here by myself and others, this IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH HOME ASSISTANT. The 'Aqara' cube commands aren't broadcast by the gateway, so can't be used to interact with Home Assistant. You would need to identical looking 'Mi cube' for that.
