I'd be VERY sketpical about this. Read the T&Cs very closely to make sure they wont direct debit extra years subscription to your account

  • Looks like lots of companies are following skype in auto payments

  • If someone can post the T&Cs here, we can get the ozbargain T&C detectives looking at it.

Looking for a guinea pig? I'm your man! :)

There's no T&Cs involved, I just logged into Westpac Banking and followed the links as per the OP's instructions. Westpac sends you to a special PC Tools page where you're asked to enter your name and email address. Needs to be a real one as they then send you a link to the download page - which also gives you a licence number. No credit card asked for and no T&C's.

Here's the PC Tools page - maybe a non-Westpac customer would like to try it out??

      • Tried that link, it doesn't work. I get redirected to http://www.pctools.com/internet-security/purchase/

It's not like they need your credit card details, they already have it ;)

Sorry it didn't work for you, it must be able to detect that you're landing (or in your case, not landing) via Westpac's site. Even so, they (PC Tools) don't have my credit card number, because I don't have a credit card with Westpac!

And even if I did, Westpac would be breaching all sorts of laws if they were giving my card details to PC Tools without my permission.

Guys. If you don't want to log in to your Westpac account; Try this:

          1. Go to this website (above)
            http://www.westpac.com.au/personal-banking/westpac-online/se…

          2. Paste this website in the address bar of your browser's window/tab and hit enter
            https://secure.pctools.com/wbc/

There is probably a check for the referrer. Doing this method tricks the check script
You need to do this in the same window or tab

I think it worked for me. I registered via stevens link and it sent me a verification email which gives me the license name and code and the page to download the program. Im not a Westpac customer and I dont intend on installing the program (Ive got enough of these stuff), so I dont know if it'll work right to the end, but so far it works! Didnt ask for any credit card details, or really anything to confirm that Im a Westpac customer. Didnt even use my full real name to register lol.

        • Hooray! Glad it worked for you :)

I wonder why it didn't work for uraha?

Just to see if it would work, I tried and it worked for me as well, although I already have a 3 pc paid annual subscription for McAfee that I bought a couple of months back!
I tried to install to check if it would install (carrying on a bit further from Jlove), and it seems that it would install without any problems- as it reached the point where it asked me to uninstall McAfee anti virus and firewall!
Note: McAfee, Norton 2011 or MSE is all I would have on my PC, as in my personal opinion, I think that they are good.

      • Worked great for me straight off. Just had to register off that link and got the email straight away. Thanks.

  • Its only free for 12 months…………………

It's a good freeby but you can get good protection for free by using Malwarebytes anti-malware + Avast anti-virus free + Comodo free firewall.

Tried it a couple of years ago with the same offer. Found it to be really resource hungry and would sap the performance of a PC to the detriment of other applications. Also, it required quite a bit of technical fiddling with the settings for network access applications that the average user might find daunting.
