http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/37881 similar to this, but with an i7 cpu, not enough to justify paying $195 extra imo

Unless you do alot of video encoding or anything that requires a huge amount of processing.

For an extra 5 bucks you can an additional 140GB worth of hard drive space:

  • Myer had this for $820. Though theres not much stock left

    • Keep in mind if you can take this information to DSE, they will pricematch :)

      • Dicksmith never price match for me. However next time they refuse I have their policy on hand :D

        • Well, to be fair, technically their policy is not to pricematch, but if you go back to them after you've made the sale, then you get the difference + 15% back, or something along those lines.

Though, I'm always fair - if they're willing to pricematch on the spot, I'm more than happy to ignore the extra 15% because imo DSE is a great retailer (or, at the very least, my local store is a great retailer).

  • This model heats up so much, mate of mine bought one and he has to use the laptop cooler with it all the time.

Someone on another thread commented that the heating issue has been fixed on the dv6 laptops. Is your mate's dv6?

      • It depends on a number of factors such as generation and cpu.

Does it come with an i7? If so these tend to heat like crazy.

    • Scary thought if it's like that from day one because cooling efficiency deteriorates over time, and disassembling lappies to clean the dust thoroughly and replace the thermal compound is a tedious and warranty-voiding process. Even under warranty it can be a nightmare - getting my overheating HP laptop fixed properly by their clueless, outsourced service centre was a 3 month ordeal.

      • HP definitely isn't always bad though. My last HP desktop had a few things break on it; mobo, psu, hdd. When I called them up each time for help they sent a guy around within like two or three days that was able to diagnose and swap the part within an hour. It was great :) Luck of the draw I guess.

Before you get an HP product…..google hplies.com. And the nvidia effect…..always get as much warranty as possible….

    • Yes, but remember this didn't only apply to HP. It applied to every company using the Nvidia based GPU (8400).

So, theoretically it's Nvidia's fault. On the other hand HP didn't rectify the problem as efficiently compared with other company's hence the enormous amounts of complaints.
