  • These aren't top spec but if you've got an older car with dud speakers, its a cheap fix :)

Even in some newer cars these will be 10x better than the horrible cheap nasty speakers manufacturers put in vehicles. Yaris is a great example, front door speakers have the tiniest little magnets on the back of them, they weigh nothing.

It's all about weight reduction to get that better fuel economy :p

@PinzVidz; 10x? Not necessarily, I've seen plenty of cheap and nasty looking original speakers sound far better than expensive, good-looking, heavy, big-branded aftermarket speakers like this. Especially in premium, well developed cars.

If the speaker is tuned to the enclosure, the amp matched to the speaker, and/or prior equalisation built into the audio system that optimises the speakers for that particular environment, all replacements will have trouble returning an across the board improvement.

But most the time, it is differences in sensitivity (and at other times impedance) that can screw things up.

It isn't always the case, but unless the drivers are blown, most of the time your money is better spent on a complimentary amplifier than switching drivers out, and/or a subwoofer.

@ccsvchost; In terms of weight reduction, absolutely, yes. And it is more of an issue (and has already been for decades), so big magnets require a lot of justification to be chosen by the design engineers- any extra weight they specify will be questioned, no doubt. Still, this doesn't mean that the OE speakers perform poorly.

        • Very good post, however i wouldn't say weight reduction is a big deal tbh, difference between big heavy drivers is a couple of kilos at most so nothing that would have any real effect on car performance.
I'd say if i were to spend money on a bone stock car i'd first spend money on some sound deadening before doing the amp.
Doing just the front doors and making sure you seal it makes a world of difference.

  • Does anyone know if these will fit Astra TS 2002 model?

    • most likely yes. go instore and get them to check.

  • Been waiting for this to come around again, but this has been the highest 'sale' price ever posted on OzB… hmm…
