Stihl MS381 Magnum 20 Inch Professional Chainsaw (Phone Call Required for Postage Quote) $999 (RRP $1529) @ Adelaide Tools

90

Was looking for a new chainsaw and stumbled across this. Stihl very rarely discount their saws, I believe this will be a discontinued model come November as it doesn't comply with new emissions regulations that come in then.

See post below. Can order over the phone and have delivered

  • 72cc and only a 20" bar? seems odd. But great price either way!

I have a 80cc and a 16" bar, i can sink the whole bar into a log the engine does not bog down or slow, would blow that stihl away in cutting speed, also if i cut across a fallen log from both sides i have the effect of cutting a 32" bar, all up to the operators skill

I find it amazing that stihl allow c/saws via post without being instructed in-store at time of purchase, would never be allowed in my day

A good price and good saw, but Husqvarna make the better saw, i have sold and used both :-)

My Husqvarna 572xp is the smoothest saw I've ever owned. I own both stihl and husky saws and nine times out of ten I'll pick up the husky.

      • now they just have you tube videos in how to use products.

stihl used to be big on the in store thing, not sure if it was for safety or to upsell accessories

….with some mower stores so close to residential housing now there is probably a limit in being able to fire up a chainsaw and do demos in many locations anyway for new owners, and in the country people probably already have used a chainsaw.

  • Takes upto a 30inch bar.

Im in NSW and was able to phone and buy and have it delivered here for $35 postage costs.

Any idea about how the new regulations will affect future models?

      • All ready have come into affect in the US. I think we are just adopting their models now. Mainly running different carb and slightly different exhaust.

        • california emission laws ….. have done away with most things 2 stroke eg lawn mowers , blowers, etc , chainsaws are the last probabaly due to power to weight ratio and so far no 4 stroke substitute.

      • The market is transitioning into battery powered, made huge strides already

The new regs are to stop dirty models from China, Euro chainsaws will pass the new laws easily

New law is from 1st July 2019, does NOT have any effect on stock already here in AUS, or used

I think that stihl is made in brazil?

        • Isn't Stihl Germany based?

        • @quasims:

their pro range with anti vibration insulation is made in germany, their home user range is now made in china to remain cost competitive in the bottom end of the market.

      • Yep, they'll be more expensive and less efficient. In other words eco models or green.

  • Id say this is the perfect combination of size/weight/power and reliability in a package that's affordable for a pro-saw.
    If I didn't already have a 046Magnum I would jump all over this .
Stihl 25" bar is about $100 if you must have ,and keep an eye out for a roll of stihl chain on sale.
Making them yourself is cheap and easy.
