Got one for a friend on the weekend. Great bike for the money. The gears are push button/trigger, not the twisty type on hand grip.

Just add a front basket if that's wanted.

Better than renting obike …this at least has gears

  • How heavy is this bike?

  • +2

We got a previous version of this bike that came with a basket.

$99 is a good price, but look out for:

    1) Weight- it is heavy.

    2) Sizing- it is too small for anyone over 170cm.

I could be wrong on this version, but something for people to look out for.

    • +1

Yeh. I agree with you that this size won't be fitting anyone over 170cm.

My wife is 160cm and her birthday is next Friday. So I'm sold!

      • +5

I hope your wife thinks that's a reasonable exchange JC.

      • +7

Sorry to hear that. I hope you have a good time with your new owners.

        • +3

OMG I couldn’t stop laughing for like 5 minutes

    Might get one for triathlon

    • this looks good, maybe a better bet for $50 more - aluminium frame, and a modern look!

      • +4

Different style bike with flat bar versus upright position and bigger saddle for further comfort.
Rear carrier rack could be great for some people.
And if you put another $50, you can buy another bike for your daughter :)

        • +3

you can buy another bike for your daughter

Yes, so that 2 people can hate you instead of just one. :)

      • +3

As mentioned, it's a different style. If I was buying for my wife I'd go for the original posted bike.

Aluminium isn't necessarily better than steel. Nor is an aluminium one necessarily lighter - it's not as strong nor as easy to repair.
The frame material is rather superficial at this price point. In fact, I'd favour the steel one.
The fact that the Vintage already has a rack and mudguards would add weight.
If you're not picking it up the weight won't really be a big factor.

There are a couple of other differences.
The Vintage is 6-speed and the Metro is 21-speed (or 3 x 7-speed). As these are both likely to be rock bottom of the range, the difference may be negligible beyond which you are more comfortable using - ie changing on the front derailleur or rear. Nobody buying this is going to be riding with a steady cadence, so a high number of gears is mostly a marketing gimmick with more potential for faults and requiring higher maintenance.

The main advantage of the Metro is the disc brakes.

    • Tried these when they were last on sale. None of the bikes in store could shift to top gear, even after they tried to fix them. But someone with a bit more skill might be able to get it to work properly.

      • I would not say I'm any bike expert, but took me five minutes to fix that. All new cables stretch, so naturally just shorten/tighten the cable with just ONE small nut and tension cable with a small multigrip/pliers. Done.

  • Wonder how quality compares to a Reid vintage bike. Bought one for the missus a while back. Pretty agricultural!

    • +2

      Agricultural?

      • +5

Engineering slang - 'unrefined' or 'crude'

        • Perhaps quincy meant pastoral or bucolic?

  • +3

is it prebuilt so i can go to the rebel store in sydney city and then ride home ? :)
oh wait i better not coz its a women's bike lol

    • looks like the bike thats growing old in my mums garage from the 1 use its had in its life lol

    • Good bike for $150. Can't do better at Kmart or Big W, maybe slightly better if settle for second hand and you enjoy the hunt.

    • Just noticed that one… alloy frame, trigger shifters, disc brakes, no shocks (makes it lighter)… Good deal for $150 !

  • $150 delivery kills it for me. No stock in Perth region.

    • Free delivery if u ring store no stock ask for code for delivery
I was quoted $157 but sales assistant gave me code over the phone for free postage

      • What was the code?

      • Hey i live in lancefield could you give me the shipping code please or atleast tell me store. Will make ir soo much easier pleaseeeeee

  • Wife is short, Like 150cm short lol. Will her leg reach the ground sitting on the seat?

  • +1

Bought it for my girlfriend. We have to pick it up though since 150 $ for delivery is insane

    • $150 for delivery is ridiculous.

    • Mine was $250! Yay regional QLD

  • This is perfect for the hills.

  • Great.. Missus has been looking for a town bike. Highpoint, Vic have click and collect!

  • Can a man use it? What's the difference?

    • -1

LOL a feminine male can ride it like you mate. the difference is the way it's shaped to fit a woman's body haha

      • +3

Which I could never work out as it would make more sense that blokes rode bikes without a knacker bar. You feelin me?

        • +2

I think the bar is lower on women's bikes so they can ride them with a dress on

        • +1

          @BarryBargain88:
Haven't seen a lady with a dress in ages. They all seem to wear jeans or the yoga pants

    • The difference is your mates will torment you like school yard bullies for having a girl bike.

  • are there any kids bikes on special at Rebel as well?

  • What is the price for the bike assembly?

  • Ordered mine earlier and it was ready for pick up within the hour. Still need to go get it. Wonder if it is boxed or put together all ready? Anyone have any suggestions for a helmet priced for oz bargainers? and a basket maybe for the back?

    • and a basket maybe for the back?

For the basket I have seen people cable tie the supermarket shopping baskets to the back of the bike.

      • +1

Be nice if they came with standard hay-band holding an old small wooden BCX crate with a Jack Russell in it.

    • Did you find out if it's boxed or assembled? If boxed, how big is the box? Wondering if I can fit 2 in a hatchback…

      • It is in a box, still have not opened it. It fit in the back of my Honda Civic hatchback with some room to spare with the seats down. Did my shopping too, 4 bags and a bowls bag in their too

    • +1

i checked with store manager (Taylor Lakes Vic) and got to know that rebel is trying to get rid of bikes section soon. For instance, the ladies vintage bike has been on 50% for almost more than 6 weeks. Few weeks back, they had put Men/Women Hybrid 3 on 50% and they will continue to rotate the offer on bikes every few weeks. So they will not dispose on floor models and will continue to clear out their ample boxed stock from warehouses as they would like to avoid the cost incurred on assembling.

  • In this day and age. What makes this a ‘woman’s’ bike?

    • I am a lady boy who has had only the top half done. Not sure if I should get this or a mans bike since I still have man bits where it matters for riding a bike. Please advise.

      • Get the one that you used to ride in Thailand

  • :( Delivery $150!! This bike only available for click n collect in one store on the other side of sydney.

Just to let people know, I rung my local store and they said they would be happy to get one from a different store for me to pick up for no extra charge. I wasn't able to get a delivery code but they were more than happy to organise one from a store further away. They also said that the online inventory isn't as accurate as their in-store system so even if the website says there is none available you should still call your local store to check!
