Another month, another New Balance discount code although not quite as good as the 50% off last month.
Unfortunately this only works on full priced items. None of the previous hacks for receiving further discounts on already discounted items appear to work.

@thumbybumbi You are right. However, it's not as straightforward as it was last time.
I've done a bit of testing. This is what I found.
It all revolves around the free shipping. The threshold for this is $100. If your full price item with 40% discount = less than $100, then there's a gap until you qualify for free shipping: "Add $AB.CD more to qualify". If you then add a clearance item that, after the 40% discount, is less than the gap ($AB.CD) it then applies the 40% discount to all items. Yes, you pay shipping ($10) but it still works out cheaper.
Example: these full price shoes are $120, which is $72 after 40% discount, resulting in a gap of $28.00 until free shipping kicks in. If we add these clearance shoes which are $36 (pre-40% discount), we see an order subtotal of $156, plus $10 delivery, then an order discount of $62.40 and an order total of $103.60. This order total is ((120 + 36) * 0.6) + 10.
Contrary to this, and still using the above example, if you add these $90 clearance shoes instead of the $36 clearance shoes, then the discount on the clearance item doesn't work.
In conclusion, it seems as long as your order total stays under the $100 free shipping threshold, after calculating 40% off both the full price and clearance items (as per the above instructions), then the discount applies to all items in the bag.
I haven't tested more extensively, so YMMV, but that's what I've found so far.
Interesting - but I ended up getting it with free shipping.
I started with full priced shoes, which came to $90 + $10 shipping. So I added a $12.50 ball (clearance price), thinking it would take me over $100, but surprisingly I still got 40% off the ball as well, and so it didn't (so far, same as what you found).
But I added a second soccer ball on clearance, and ended up with free shipping and 40% off all of it, including the sale stuff.
Interesting! Maybe something was tweaked between your order and my testing? Anyway, good for you (* thumbs up *) and to others: worth experimenting!
