  • Everything was looking good until I read this:

Nvidia Geforce GT 230- 1gb Dedicated - 2.8gb Shared with HDMI output

    • I dont have much knowledge about it, as I mostly use laptop for work only and integrated displays.
Can you please explain, what the problem is with dedicated, but shared output.

      • +1

Well, the GT 230 is a very mediocre video card, and is last generation (current generation is the 400m series of Nvidia GPU's)

Especially with a laptop that has a full HD 1080p resolution display you're going to want something a GPU that has a little more grunt so you can take advantage of gaming at full HD resolution.

There are sub $1000 laptop with better video cards than this.

        • is GT360 new graphic card, i am just asking as i read the conf of new laptop and they were flashing it very much…. and i dont know but i never seen core i7 with 18.4 inch screen with such a price tag….

        • That was quick. thank you so much. Otherwise, I never used to stress on the GPU's no.

        • +1

The GT360 is based on the GT 260m
which was a DirectX 10.1 GPU.

The 400 series are the newest Nvidia GPU's that support DirectX11.

This laptop's good as an entertainment unit but not so much for gaming. Most games nowadays would struggle to run at 1080p with a GT230m.

500m series just came out too, so they're like 2 gens behind…

    • whats wrong with this?

      • You could get better for cheaper in terms of hardware probably won't be a 18.4inch display but yeah I a new mobile processor will be out quite soon.

        • if you want good conf, then on the same website, Toshiba laptop is on sale for $1599 and it got good hardware specs…. check that….. screen plays a important role in pricing….. HP is taking money for Screen and i7 processor…

And what better hardware you can get from this one…..

  • in all honest, i'd steer clear of all HP laptops.

Family bought 4 different models at different times. they have all had issues just after about year. 1 with screen issues and the other 3 with motherboad issues.

Issues fixed with warrenty. but occured again after warrently expired.

    • I bought Toshiba recently - that too gaming laptop - i have issue with the speakers (voice goes up and down)

My friend bought Dell - he has issue with the battery (shows power plugged in but not charging)

Every company lacks somewhere i guess…..

      • totally agree, they all have issues as humans are involved in the design or build process so nothing can be perfect. I tend to buy from the company with the best warranty. One that means I dont have to go to them to get it fix they come to me, pick it up or fix on site.

    • I purchased one - a DV7 model. Has been fantastic…. but yes, does struggle with games. However, for a laptop that will be fast in everything else you do, then at this price, it is not a bad buy. In the IT world there is always something a little better… at a bit extra cost. For the average home user that wants to do work on it, watch the occasional movie, and access youtube etc, specs are just fine.

    • I have to agree, every HP or Compaq I've had has essentially been a lemon whether expensive or cheap- overheating issues x 1, motherboardboard fail x 2. I have a whole collection of them in my laptop graveyard.

  • Honestly people should just wait until intel releases there's mobile version of the upcoming sandy bridge family of processors well that's assuming you want to own something that will perform better than the current mobile cpu.
