Grey version: https://www.bigw.com.au/product/nintendo-switch-console-grey…

This is currently the cheapest bricks and mortar that I know of.
Could also use 5% off Wish cards from Entertainment/Cashrewards, which brings it close to the Amazon price.

        • Lol yeah it was $299 in an Amex deal last year.

        • +1

@McFly: So $399 if you have no Amex?

        • @Diji1: Yes.

    • Which deal was this?

  • +2

If you know it's cheaper from Amazon why post this?
Also it's $400.50 delivered on Ebay, even cheaper.

Far out, the Switch really is over priced considering that it's only slightly more powerful than a last gen game console.

    • You're paying for either its namesake (portable/home gaming on the same device) or the platform's exclusives as usual. If neither interest you, then its probably not worth getting. Power is not and will not be a good reason to get one.

    • +8

It's a portable console so I'm not even sure why you're comparing it to non-portable systems.

It is the most powerful portable console.

      • +2

Compare it to a tablet with HDMI them.

Eg. NVIDIA SHIELD K1 with basically the same internals, HDMI out.

From a hardware perspective, the Switch is under powered and a rip off. The software is what saves it.

        • That doesn't have joy-cons.

        • +1

@beau travail: Good, they're they worst part of the console.

        • +2

From a software perspective, the Switch is a wonderful device which already features two of the best games ever made and a bunch of other games which more than justify the price. Its unique form factor also allows the type of gaming experiences that are unavailable on any other platform.

In terms of fun and number of hours of use, the Switch has beaten the hell out of my PS4 so in no way can it be considered a rip off.

This is a bargain site, not a console wars site. Take that crap elsewhere.

        • @choodi: I'm assuming Zelda is one, what's the other best game ever made?

        • +2

          @Hybroid: Mario Odyssey

          @choodi:

This is a bargain site, not a console wars site.

Ummm calm down kid. All I stated was the fact that from a hardware perspective it is overpriced. I also noted that the software saves it (like all Nintendo products since the Wii). My post was very neutral, saying positives and negatives.

        • @choodi: Hmm, not really enough to warrant a console purchase. I would be tempted when the next Pokemon game comes to it as well as a few more releases.

It's a portable console that is being sold at a premium. The cost price is more than some /current/ gen home systems. Of course it's comparable. The Switch is predominantly used at home anyway (the 3DS was the same). Nintendo is selling an incredibly old Nvidia Tegra X1 chip with a crappy LCD screen, wrapped in cheap plastic for way more than the production cost. I like Zelda as well, but come-on… Nintendo is having a bit of a laugh at you all here.

    Meh.

Bring out a switch with a larger display and at least 1080p and I'll be half interested.

    • "at least 1080p"
Unless you were pixel counting you wouldn't be able to tell even on a slightly bigger display

      • You saying you can't tell the difference between 1080p and 2K at 6"? Wow - time for an eye check buddy.

    • I want a smaller screen. If it doesn't fit in my pocket, it's not portable IMO.

      • get bigger pockets

  • Just price match Amazon's $419 at JB Hifi or EB Games.

Using 5% off JB Gift cards will get you to around $398.

    • I wonder if Big W price match Amazon.
