Currently using a Vodafone sim in mine. Maybe the coverage might not be as good depending where you are, but works fine for me,
it works on Vodafone and Kogan.
Can confirm it works with both Kogan and Voda
I have it with Kogan but sometime I found that very weak not sure is it before of Voda or missing 850
Most likely voda. I was using an optus sim previously and had better coverage. Although this does depend on your area
I'm looking for a usb modem that will work with Belong. Are these or Telstra's version locked or easy to to unlock?
You should look at getting a Telstra one and unlock that for use with Belong which uses the Telstra network.
Multiple discussions about this modem on previous deals - appears that they are not locked. Bought mine a couple of months ago. Was unlocked.
my usb are locked to telstra BUT works with Aldi sim which is telstra network. Doesn't work with Optus SIM.
I bought a couple of these during a Big W special a while a back, and they were unlocked, out of the box. They used to work on Telstra 4G 700 / Band 28, until Telstra tweaked their Band 28 implementation to accomodate IoT. They'll still work on Telstra 4G on the other bands (eg; 4G 1800 / Band 3), but if you need Telstra 4G 700 / B28, buy something else.
Is it lacking IP6?
Thanks for that as I wasn't aware they no longer work on Telstra 4G. Do you know of an alternative that does work with B28 with IoT?
I got the Telstra 4GX USB WiFi from Coles on special for $14 three weeks ago, works brilliantly. Fast startup too.

No diss but Why are people buying these? If you can use your phone to get internet on your laptop why buy this
- Drain on phone battery
- Have cheap sims and want to be able to share data with the family on hoiday.
- Nice little portable network without dragging a large size router around. Good for gaming/console connectivity on holiday if you configure it right and have enough data. Can even share media via wifi on holiday.
- Low data on main phone account.
- Battery lasts longer than a phone configured as a hotspot.
I use to have 1 GB then 3GB per month on Telstra for ages. That's when I bought a bunch of these.
I take mine when I go snowboarding overseas. Buy a cheap sim there and everyone can use it.
When I hotspot, to the family, my phone drains faster than these do.Optus have a deal where you can get 200gb/month for $70/month (until 30/4/2018), good for when you're out on the go or just want to add a big chunk of data to your optus data pool.
Personally, I'm renting in a suburb where the exchange is full and nbn is still over a year away. I use the netgear ac800s modem from optus and I get a minimum speed of 120mbps/10mbps during peak, 200mbps/25mbps off peak, so I find them useful since it means I can just pay one fee for the modem and use it everywhere instead of having to pay setup costs for nbn/adsl at rental properties. The ac800s also now docks into the netgear dc112a dock which gives you dual wifi bands, antennae and gigabit lan ports, which is good for when you don't want to saturate the wifi bandwidth. And the speed is also quite nice compared to the speeds I see everyone else getting from the nbn.
Phone is tethered this is not, that makes a world of difference in some cases.
I'm going overseas in August and I've been looking for this on Ebay. I was going to buy the ones that says UNLOCKED, but the thread here says it is. I'd hate to get O/S and find it does not work. Is is safe to use O/S with a UK Three sim? Thanks guys.
I have used it overseas but not UK, if it is unlocked than doesn't matter where.
I have used mine in Europe many times with a UK Three sim and works well. Mine is a few years old however and unlocked. Also you have to get the 12GB PAYG Data only Three sim as I believe the other Three sims that have voice minutes etc do not allow tethering.
I have 2 new 12GB sims that I picked up in the UK last year and will be trying them in Europe next week so hopefully they can still be activated when abroad as before. Thanks for this - Have taken your advice.
How about this Optus ZTE modem from Target https://www.target.com.au/p/optus-zte-4g-wi-fi-modem-mf92-v/…
Is it worth the extra $15?
Have a look here I guess. http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2591398
I've used both and they're much the same, couldn't say I noticed one performing better than the other.
Have been to 4 different Coles and they were all sold out. Would be nice to get one so I don't have to bring a spare mobile when we head to Tokyo in a couple of weeks.
I couldn't find one at my local Coles but Woolies also have them at the same price.

This one missing 850 is it not good for Voda?
