  • Shows full price in my local Brisbane store.

    • Show them the website page then. Always eliminates any argument.

Thanks OP! Going to get a couple (one as spare). those cheap ebay ones are truly nasty.

      • Their site showed full price & still is full price.

  • this might be handy to start charcoal ?

it says "refillable butane" does anyone know how that works?

    • +2

It looks like what I have like and still going for 20yrs. If still same design it is just a normal cheap cigarette lighter u put inside.

      • ah just lighter fluid. thanks!

      • Sorry if this is a stupid question.

Are you saying that the refill is a bic lighter and this slots into the blow torch? or will I have to take off the metal part of a bic lighter? not sure how these things work.

    • +1

bit small for charcoal but right size for lighting bongs if the greens get dope legalised ….. crack users probably already have a lighter and they aren’t waiting for anything to be legalised.

      • Yeah I just saw it instore (see piccy in link above). Got a XU1 heat gun instead

    • Instructions. The standard lighter does go inside the blow torch housing. Weird.

Handy in the kitchen as a torch for caramelising the hard sugar topping of creme brulee etc. Target charge $35 for a kitchen torch.

Bunnings suggest for camping (assume to light a fire) - which seems like overkill.

I wonder if you are allowed to carry this in public - seems like an ideal weapon of torture😱

    • +1

Handy out of the kitchen, for caramelizing human flesh 😉

      • +1

        I like it crispy👍

  • +1

Can you use it for glazing creme brule?

    • +1

Yes, I've used this kind of torch before.

      • Awesome. I was going to buy it a few weeks ago but wasnt sure.

    • +1

I wouldn't. Especially if you're doing a few. I use an industrial butane gas torch (Bunnings or any half decent hardware store). Good whack of concentrated heat without damaging the underlying custard. If the heat source isn't hot/fast enough, you risk transforming the custard into omelette! Simplest style with a screw-on disposable canister is all you need. Lasts for ages…

    Meth smokers, isle nine

    • My dad says butane is a bastard gas.

    • +8

Most would have drowned before they got there

  • Ideal for camping ?

  • +1

Got this at full price 2 weeks ago had to take it back as it leaked gas. Could be a one off dud but check it out before tossing the receipt( leaked around the infill vavle)

  • Does it have a way to set the temperature of the flame?

    • -1

      lol

      • -1

        What? The description says:

Capable of reaching flame temperatures up to 1300°C

This suggests that the flame temperature is somehow adjustable.

        • Wait for the Xiaomi MiFlame lighter. The temperature and RGB lighting will be controllable via a smartphone app.

Ideal for hobbyist, DIY, camping and arsonist

    Fixed.

Although many arsonists might consider arson to be a hobby, some are professionals for hire and deserving of their own category.

  • Not sure what I'd use it for, but just seems like the sort of thing that would be handy to have in the house just incase. Especially if it's one of those buy-once, stores fine long term sort of thing, and can use the standard butane refill cans.

    • Agree.
Don’t know why I’ll need it but one day I’ll find a use for it

Website showing full price for me. 16.95 QLD. If I change to Sydney store showing the discount price there.

    • Looks like a NSW only deal - OP needs to change the title then.

      • +2

        $7.90 in SA for me.

      • $7.90 in Vic

    • +1

Looks like a daylight savings price.

  • welding aluminium?

  • +1

Great for electricians like myself for the occasional piece of heat shrink.

    Thanks OP!

    • So what did you use until now for the occasional shrink?

      • Methane

      • +1

240v Heat gun. You don't always have a socket outlet handy.

        • +1

The people I know use normal lighters when a heatgun isn't around because jet lighters have a tendency to actually burn heatshrink, and very quickly too.

I honestly think it's bad advice to tell people that it's a good idea to use a jet flame over a normal flame for heatshrink. You won't save any time, you need an extra tool, is more expensive ,is prone to burning the material and is less safe.

  • Could you use this to scorch some weeds in the backyard, taking care not to burn down the fence and your neighbour's home?

    • Why not

    • +1

      What's wrong with diesel?

    • think of a cigarette lighter and how much gas it has, now think how many bic lighters you'd need to torch some weeds ?

I bought an LPG torch on ebay with hose for between the handle and LPG cyclinder, reverted back to weedkiller in a watering can as an easier and cheaper option.

      • Weedkiller is so bad for the environment and makes you susceptible to.an increase of weeds.!!!!!!

    • +2

Good idea. Less noisy and much cheaper than using a shotgun to blast out weeds too, which is what I do.

  • Decent price, wish there was a flameless version for this price

    • +2

Yes the one that is also gasless

  • Pocket Blow

    ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

  • If it's using a simple lighter as fuel, does it have a special way to turn the heat to 1300 C?

    • +1

      Air.

  • Am still getting full price for Perth on their website! Anyone had any luck with this deal on this side of the country?

    • Looks like only advanced daylight savings states.

  • +1

heeeeeeee haaaaaaaaa.. yo spiders… futher muckers… fireman is comin to roast your arses!

  • can you usee these for cigars?

    • I'd rather a Cuban.

      • Not just Cuban, you can scorch anyone from South America with one of these

  • anyone knows if this would work to sear meat after sous vide? how long would a torch like this work for until it requires a refill (new lighter in this case)?

    • +2

These are small torches with a relatively small and weak jet flame. There's no adjustment, you only get the fuel output that a standard bic style lighter outputs and once empty you need to buy an expensive bic style lighter to refil it.

I'd be looking at a proper chefs torch or shop propane torch for that job. Chefs torches are cheap enough on eBay and they can be filled with a can of butane that costs a few dollars and last a very long time.

      e.g.

    • +1

      Check out the searzall

I don't have one, I just became aware of it yesterday while youtubing low and slow bbq techniques.

Check it out here from 5:46. Added bonus, if you like him that is, Adam Savage presents it.

  • What a joke Bunnings stock system is. Showing available at 2 stores but nothing on the shelves.

  • Coming up as normal price at Landsdale store in Perth. Was very difficult to find, ended up being behind the counter of the tool store. The staff had no idea.
