The Aldi one (Xfinity) is back on the 21st too. 4.0Ah $39.99. For those invested in that range.

  • It looks 89cents cheaper than last deal.

  • +2

if aldi are doing a deal again this month does that mean bunnings will do more than just batteries eg brushless drill kit or chargers and skins ?

  • Nice, cheap enough to grab some for projects! Does anyone know if the protection circuits are inside the battery or inside the devices? Lithium ion not for messing around with.,..

    • Should be in the battery… Absolutely no point putting it in the tool as that means and unplugged battery would be a time bomb

      • This video of a different 36v Ozito lithium battery shows the circuit board around the 4 mintue mark.

        The protection - a fuse.

I presume that there's overcharge protection in the charger.

    • In battery pack.

  • Can it be as a powerbank?

    • If you buy the usb power station skin then yes :)

    • +3

Yep, just add one of these for $13 more: https://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-power-x-change-18v-usb-pow…

    • +8

Equivalent to a 20 000mah powerbank which you can get for much cheaper… Would be a waste using these high power cells for that anyway.

      • Agreed for just phone charging. Otherwise, this is a pretty good option for small projects that require a higher voltage battery that powerpacks can't offer, eg if you need 12 or 18v.

      • Can you explain it. I know the Xiaomi 20000mah are actually 20000mah at 3.6V, which is ( I think but have no real idea) 15000mah at 5V (using P=VxI) . Wouldn't the Ozito at 40,000mah (4ah) at 18 Volts be greater then this value at 5V?.

I guess I'm just asking how you calculate the value?

        • The capacity wont change. It's 20000mAh regardless of the voltage draw. However, the time it lasts will be longer for a lower current or voltage drawn. ie.

          20k divide by 5v = 4000mA for 1 hr ouput

          20k divide by 3.6 = 5555mA for 1 hr output

This also means you are better off buying a higher voltage battery if the capacities are the same.
          ie. 12v vs 18v (both 4.0AH). 12x4000 vs 18x4000.

*Note being lithium cells, they aren't exactly 18v fully charged. Aldi and Ozito rate them differently as 18v and 20v for the SAME THING. No idea the actual number. Most likely 18/3.6 average = 5 lithium cells. So 5 cells x 4.1v fully charged would be around 20.5V. A 24v powerpack would be the TRUE next level up.

        • @tunzafun001:
          You're confusing units here.
          20000mAh/4A=5h.
I think what you meant was 20000mWh @ 5V will last an hour at 4A.

        • @spludgey: yep. You're right.

      • Pretty sure. 18v for one hr @ 4000mAh = 72 000mAh powerbank.

        • +2

          your explanation is not correct
For this kind of battery, the capacity would be 18V * 4Ah = 72Wh
For other kinds of power bank (ie Xiaomi) they rate it at 3.6V (internal cells voltage) so a 10000mAh power bank has a capacity of 3.6V * 10Ah = 36Wh
This battery should have the capacity of a normal 20000mAh power bank. And yes I check the number :), they are printed at the bottom of the battery (power bank)

        • @ntb:
          I stand corrected.

          Wh / V x 1000 = mAh

Managed to nab a Aldi 4Ah Special buy for $20.99 about 2 months ago. Was the only one though.
    Don't have Aldi tools though…

    • +2

A good Ozbargainer, just cant pass up a good deal, even if they cant use it… 😀

    • Damn, that's a good price. The stores near me won't mark them down. They keep moving them progressively to the more clearance racks, but the price never changes. They just put a red price tag on them.

      • Yeah, they put the $20.99 stickers on the 2.0Ah ones, there happened to be one on a 4.0Ah by mistake I think.
        Gone.

  • +2

The 2.0Ah one is also on special ($29) and the 3.0 Ah is $34.50 (if you buy 2 for $69).

    • And the 3.0 Ah is $59 for just one? What's with that?

I guess aldi doesn't have a 3.0 Ah battery to compete with.

    • +1

1.5Ah battery including Charger dropped to just $35 recently. Charger is $25 on its own.

Battery is on the low end, but having more than one proper full-sized charger is pretty great at times.

  • just waiting for the day all manufacturers get together and develop an industry standard for batteries and chargers. Much the same way mobile phone vendors did due to environmental issues.

    • Didn't they a long time ago? Most if not all of these battery packs use 18650 Li-Ion cells. The same you find anywhere from high powered flashlights and e-cigs to tesla vehicles and their power walls.

If you're talking about batteries being interchangeable between brands of tools it's possible already if you use a adapter as they ~usually~ run at the same voltages.

      • +1

i've never never been able to find ozito power x battery to ryobi one + adapter

      • +1

Batteries and chargers from different manufacturers should be interchangeable without the need for adapters.

If I have an Ozito, Bosch, Makita and Ryobi, I'll need a minimum of 6 adapters. utter BS. two standards are manageable, anything more is nonesense.

        • +1

Batteries and chargers from different manufacturers should be interchangeable without the need for adapters.

Yeah and they should be just free right altogether singing kumbaya while happily selling less products? :P

          Oh and world peace.

        • If only manufacturers would design battery compartments for 18650 batteries like they do for normal AA batteries. Then we could just swap them in a drill/ saw/ etc like we do in a radio. I am sure radio batteries were proprietary at one time- just does not seem to be heading that way.

Too many people in the world are greedy and confused over what is good for the planet and only think about themselves!

    • +1

Mobile phone chargers were forcibly standardised by law. That's the only way it'll happen with power tools too.

The vendor lock-in effect is too lucrative for them to standardise voluntarily.

Imagine you're a battery pack design engineer at Bosch, you come to your boss and say "I think we should allow our customers to buy battery packs from Ozito for half the price we sell them"…

      • in the mean time, lets keep the landfill up. First it was ni-cad, then ni-mh now lithium. Let's not mention the chargers.

Manufacturers would likely sell more product skins if ppl with compatible batteries and chargers from other makes, knew they would work.

      • It would be like forcing Apple and Samsung and all the other phone producers to use same battery design.

Forcing all the manufacturers to use same design on batteries will seriously impact the options on tool design in general.

I think it's good to have a different options.

  • Does anyone know if this battery will fit this unit and will the bigger battery fit the charger that comes with it ? - https://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-18v-hedge-trimmer-kit_p338…

    • +1

No it won't fit. Because your one is not from the Power X-change series.

      • Thanks - Haven't bought the trimmer yet - just wondering if I could get away with this instead of the $175 for the Hitachi with no battery/use my drill batteries

        • +1
        • If you're still eyeing the Ozito range (specifically the larger battery from this deal) you also have https://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-power-x-change-18v-1-5ah-h… which unfortunately you missed a decent deal on only a few weeks ago.

Personally grabbed the one I linked, still using the 1.5 AH battery and it's done our grape vine a few times as well as a few other hedges without requiring a charge. Only struggles on the thicker branches, but even with a corded hedger it wouldn't cut through them.

        • @Umcookies: This kit is still on sale (at least in Campbelltown this afternoon, 3 units left) price is $60 not as cheap as last deal though.

        • @ntb: I have the $50 ozito hedge trimmer as well. Paired with a 4.0Ah Makita battery thanks to a 3D print out. Ask a metro council about any stem/ engineering community classes. 3D printers will be there.

  • Is that fast charger worth getting? Anyone know how much is it? The one included with the blower trimmer deal would have been the economical charger…

    • Depends on your workload, if you do a few things around the house with a tool or two without depleting the battery then the eco charger will be better to charge overnight as (in theory) it'll provide better longevity to your batteries. If you're killing your batteries and need to charge them multiple times per day than the fast charger will be worth it as you'll be able to charge the same battery a few times per day rather than have a few batteries on cycle.

  • Almost a normal price lol

    • A 40% saving over bunnings RRP is almost normal price?

    • Not sure if serious

  • Must resist… I surely don't need any more…

I noticed there is a 5.2 AH in the range as well now.

  • good as, i don't use my ozito tools enough to need this but ill buy it anyways.

  • Anyone knows how ozito mower works? The mower come with 2 x 2.0ah battery, but I need 2 charges to finish the job, so I plan to buy bigger battery for it, would 2.0ah + 4.0ah work? Or I need 2 x 4.0Ah?

    • +2

Sounds like you need 8Ah in total, so go with two 4.0Ah batteries.

  • Anyone cracked one of these open yet? What cells they have?! My milwaukee batts use samsung and lg, some knockoff's I've got use samsung, also LG, sanyo.. they're hard to find now though and most of knockoffs use generic crap and they only get used in the radio now, as they are rubbish…

Could make a cheap source of headlamp and vape batts if the cells inside are good, love to know if anyone has or can crack their battery open for a stickybeak..

    • I got a few with the intention of doing just that, gimmie 15-20 and ill see what I can russle up for ya.

      • awesome, will be interesting.. as the cell cost factor is IMO what makes the higher end tool batts more expensive, they're the best of the bunch, with seconds going elsewhere… when a company offers 2-3 yrs warranty on a battery they need to know the cells used are mostly the best of the batch…

        • Maybe my google-fu is failing me but can't seem to find much about them online, ~if~ the site I found is legit they can be brought for nearly peanuts at wholesale.

          Inside the case

          Product page

        • Interesting… they may be cheap but may still be better than the 'blue' generics which in my exp are utter rubbish… Some tech on that pcb there too…wasn't expecting that.. either the balance charge controller (my first guess), overcurrent or discharge protection.. there any serial no's on the pcb?!
If they're half decnt.. $3.9 per unit isn't too shabby, plus the fun of pulling the pack apart!

          https://www.bloomberg.com/research/stocks/private/snapshot.a…

        • @ashpete02:

Max of 16 or 20A discharge, might not be half bad cells.

          PCB shot

  • seech, check out the pcb date.. 2014! Either way.. thanks for the pics, very useful, might have to grab one and try them out!

Looks like identical design (design, so presumably same pcb etc…) batt sold over in the UK, check out amazon UK brand 'Einhell' battery.. has pretty good reviews…

    • Any time, happy to help.

And I think you may be onto something, looks dam near identical just a cheaper re-badge.

    • It's not a coincidence, Einhell bought Ozito to gain access to Bunnings. So these are Einhell. Same goes with Aldi tools. Although they could be saving the best tools for the Einhell brand.

  • Be sure to let us know how easily they come off the spot welds.. no good if they're unusable!

    • Any tips or is it just a matter of gently pulling them off? First time actually pulling cells out of a pack like this.

      • I've pulled apart a few packs… it's fiddly, I enjoy it though… A dremmel will prob come in handy to cut open the plastic containing the cells, these things are well made, this one looks pretty well made too.

The cells wont come off the tabs easily, I normally use something thin, and metal to assist in levering the tabs off, a blunt thin kitchen knife, prob some pliers and long nose pliers may come in handy.. you just gotta manhandle those tabs off! You could if you wanted to, desolder the battery tabs.. may make it easier..

        • Batteries out

Going pretty well so far, just slide out of the plastic casing. Tabs come off fairly easily but do leave some remnants which have got caught on the springs in the flashlights I'm testing them in. However so far they to do all work.

        • @Umcookies:
Yep that's expected, dremmel like took will fix that up quick smart.. thx again, hopefully I haven't missed the boat!

        • @Umcookies:
          Teardown done..

Got some charge and discharge tech happening onboard, so the supply charger for these units must be basic voltage supply.. see http://www.micro-bridge.com/news/news.asp?id=1973

Nicely built battery, including temperature monitoring, and they back it with 3yr replacement warranty!!

          Cells comparison:
          ChingChong 'Ultrafire BRC 18650' 5000mah (yeah right) @ 36g
          Samsung inr18650-25r, 2500mah @ 44g
          Ozito (tentenpower) 2000mah @ 43g

Although the AF10S20 chip onbaoard states cell balancing within 50ma, I noticed some cells were obviosuly more charged than others… well that's what the Nitecore charger displayed… anyhow let's see how these cells hold up! Thanks again Umcookies!

        • @ashpete02: not a problem! I'm glad you were able to get your hands on a unit.

  • Thanks OP, picked up the last one at my local. I love how much more mumbo the 4 has over the 1.5s, bloody beautiful.

  • Went to Artarmon and found out it was out of stock there. Staff told me that the product is currently suspended hence you cannot find it on Bunnings website. They are not ordering any more in.

Subsequently went to the Chatswood store and bought the last one there.

  • A few more left in the Lidcombe store.

  • All gone in Alexandria :(

    • 4 left in Mascot.

  • Has anyone seen any in stock in Victoria?

  • Wonder if there is any 3D model for converting Ozito to ALdi or other brands of power tools.
