      • Number 6 on the above list?

        • Are you sure it was price jacked? According to eBay it was $195-$209 prior to this sale.

    • Huh? $159 + p&P on website. $149 delivered on ebay

Because Cleanskins at 25% off at Dan's.

    • +1

They don't price jack, but they make sure their everyday prices on certain items are about 19% higher than other shops on ebay. That is because they are having the 20% off so often now.

Wish I was kidding. Synology ds918+ for example.

      https://www.ebay.com.au/p/Drevo-X1-SSD-240gb-2-5-inch-SATA-I…

      Approx $7.79 Each

      Yes that's right, 240gb for $7.79

      • I'm not sure if I am throwing $8 away or whether these would be any good, even if just short term.

buy 4 and then apply 5% off code… LOLOL

Please tell me I win Ozbargain for tonight.

      • What? Is the decimal misplaced by one?

        • No, I already asked them if it was legit and they said yes that's the price for the 240gb.

    • Lol. "In regard to the special favors from customers".. well, something here is dodgy!

23 feedback says its a scam to me.

      • It's a scam. Email from eBay this morning.

They cancelled transaction but not the payment.

I was able to manually cancel PayPal payment.

        • Was as easy as clicking 'cancel transaction'. The rule around here is to buy with protection (paypal) and ask no questions. Wait for the seller/organisation to say price error or whatever.

In saying that, eBay has said that the deal is still probably real and to continue with the transaction if you wish. Looks like they just had some concerns. I'm trying to find out more from the seller/s.

Will windows xp run a 120Gb SSD?

    • XP will run with a 20GB SSD, if they existed

    • +1

xp is awesome and not a pig. Like all operating systems, all of them including android, apple, linux etc, you need to disable all the crap that's running in the background. I have a 10 yo midrange laptop with windows 7 that trounces windows 10 on a high end laptop.

But, there are other forces working against old os like xp. End of support from ms means nothing; watch your firewall and antivirus. Stuff like internet browsers are getting harder to find. Also, newer 3rd party software is generally resource intensive.

If you have an old laptop, try sparky linux. I tried a few and sparky is great. It is supported and updated. Old laptops fly. I've recycled a few old laptops now and handed them out to friend etc. If people are just into browsing, facebook, (all internet based stuff), there's little noticeable difference.

If you go linux and ssd, look to intel ssd. They have trim software that runs under linux. I don't schedule anything except anti virus updates to free up resources; so just manually run trim every month or so.

      • Intel only for trim under linux? Interesting.

        • +1

Well no. There is fstrim in linux. You can write a script for it. Intel ssd comes with software that will work in linux - I'm not aware of other manufacturers that have this. The intel software is easy to use, no scheduler needed (slow boot up or slow shut down, or slow everything down while you're working). Just run it when things are slack. And you get the feed back and a quick gui check of everything. I'm a linux newbie, but even just trying to write a script that you can run anytime is a pita. Maybe I'm just much more familiar with batch and cmd files. And, there's the added advantage of easy redundancy setup.

        • @poohduck:

If it works without me having to tinker, that'd be what I'm interested in.

        • @poohduck:That is wrong, it is common for a distro (e.g Ubuntu) to already have a fstrim service running and it is super simple to enable on others.
          https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-conf…

        • @Namesareapain: The distro I've been using specifically to breathe new speed into old laptops is sparky. Your link to ubuntu - my system would be just as slow as windows 10 with that. There are lots of distros, I'm just saying what I found. And you still don't get the other benefits of having the intel software.

        • +1

@poohduck: Sparky seems to be based on debian, which means that "sudo systemctl enable fstrim.timer" is all you need to do.

  • Anyone knows if number 6 is compatible with the Dell desktops that are being sold? Specifically this one https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/371569

  • MSY sell those SSD close to the ebay price, why not save the trouble of having to return by mail if you can just walk into the shop and swap it straight away!!

  • I was considering the M.2 but it doesn't seem to be compatible with my motherboard.
