SanDisk X300S is very temping, it has somewhat underwhelming speeds but $150 for 500GB of SSD storage sounds like a great value purchase.

    • Good price, and I love the M.2 form factor as well, so clutter free.

    • Had to give these ones a miss. I went on Amazon instead and bought a WD BLack PCIE ssd for $206 AUD.

  • Question: My laptop came with windows preinstalled but no installation disc.

WHere would I go to get the Windows key prior to installation of a new M.2 SSD?

You might want to use Speccy to find out the Windows key. On the other hand, if it is Windows 10 then a clean install will be fine as Windows will recognise your machine and automatically register your key.

Download the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool from Microsoft and use it to create an installation USB drive (preferably) or a DVD.

You do not require a key to install Windows 10, just choose "I do not have a key" options. I think you have 180 days to get a key, could be wrong on that last point but you can trial it for a long time in any case.

      • You can trial Windows 10 for eternity. I have it doing just that on mulitple PCs.

You can also just clone your current disk drive to the new drive via USB adapter. This will save you the trouble of re-installing the windows (unless you deliberately want to do this).

  • Could someone help me out please?

My laptop specs: One M.2 drive (SATA or PCIe/NVMe)

Would it fit the M.2 SSD in this deal with a M.2 2280 form factor (according to the Ebay product page)?

      What model is the laptop?

      • Never mind, I've just googled the SSD name that I got from the laptop. But now I have a stripped screw…

        • Whatever floats your boat I suppose.

i feel you - the only method thus far that has worked for me is by "converting" the screw from the messed up philips into a slot head.

this is done buy getting a serrated saw (fine tooth) from bunnings to create a groove just deep enough for a flat head screw driver to get it out.

let me know if you have a better way as i've tried other methods by googling with no success.

        • @tomadeira: I’d use a pair of needle nose pliers to grip the head of the screw and loosen in. Worked for me in the past.

        • @Mitch889: thanks i did try that but the fact that the oversealous person who tightened that screw made it hard to have enough grip between the screw and the drive

but you have the right idea as im sure if i had a much more thinner/precision grade nose pliers that would be a good option

just easier to find a saw from bunnngs

That's an excellent price for the MX500, It's also a very good drive

    Nice! I'll be back when it's 3TB for < $100 or when ebay does 25% off site-wide :)

Based on the Ebay feedback I won't touch PC Byte.

Checkout shopping square..they also have similar prices for some of them..

      • Thanks. I'm at the point in my life where I'd rather wait a couple of months and pay a couple more dollars than deal with customer service nightmares. It's not a good price if you have to spend days chasing people to get it, unless you value your time at $0.

        Don't know what shill downvoted.

  • For a 2Tb SS2 don't get the Crucial, you can save $100 bucks by going for this Micron which is the same company https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/282883182601?ViewItem=&item=2828…

As for Performance look here, http://ssd.userbenchmark.com/SpeedTest/214178/Micron-1100-MT… AUS-User, 2 hrs ago is Mine.

    • yeah if i was considering the 2tb or even the 1tb drive i would still go for micron as the same tech applies as do the warranty.

however - for the savvy ones and i'm sure they would have picked up on this already - the price per gb is lowest on the 500gb variants and having a 500gb drive as a start is not a bad option as long as you have one of those 4TB external WD drives picked up from amazon a while ago for a steal

I'm going to get a SSD for external storage for my Wii U "HDD with two usb plug didnt work" , Which is better? the Crucial 250gb which is newer or the Intel which has more space? Or the kingston/Sandisk "idk which one"? which are the cheapest

  • for a Micron 1100 2TB SSD:
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LB05TOO/ref=od_aui_deta…
is US$356, so cheaper than that eBay site
