  • Is this 4k res?

    • No 4k. Up to 1080p.

        • Don't watch it then!

  • +8

Can I trust my computer not to alter the video I will be watching?

    • You’ll have to watch to find out, but sure, by then it may be too late…!

    Elon Musk 👍

      has lots of money.

    • +3

Isn't that short for 'Elongated Muskrat'?

We don't really need to worry about artifical intelligence and what we usually mean by AI, we need to worry about general intelligence where a computer can mimic a brain (if we actually achieve general intelligence because atm we don't even know what it is let alone how to achieve it).

Mainly because at that point whoever is the enemy of that person may as well just launch the nukes. The number of man hours of research you can do is limited merely by computer resources and your million Einsteins, will work all day, everday without a break. The country or entity that does this might become God in 24 hours. Or a week.

    • That's easy for a Bit to say ;-)

decades ago, the theory was anti virus software working too well. it isn't AI so much as a chess program. Anti virus software, using heuristics, looks at viral like activity. This way the anti virus can make an educated guess that something is a virus without having a piece of its dna in the latest update. Eventually Anti virus software will figure out that viruses come from the outside - from us. The terminator movies were kind of like this. I always disable heuristics :) Well really to free up resources. If I'm ever concerned I can re enable it and do a full scan. Never had anything though.

  • Just watched it, Great doco I was left wanting to see more

Started to watch but too much Hollywood paranoia / American gullibility. AI is real but you're not going to elect your NVIDIA 1080 as a dictating leader of your democratic republic.

    • +3

the problem with a general AI is that eventually someone will make one that is slightly smarter than a human. that AI will be able to make one smarter than itself. because it was designed by something smarter than what designed itself, and also it has acdess to a distributed network of processing power which is much greater processing power than a human brain. this will happen recursively and within about 24 hours the AI created will be godlike.

humans being humans we must do this because if we don't then <insert enemy nation or competing corporation here> will do it before us.

    • -1

HAven't seen the vid yet. AI might not elect your 1080 but I did see a report that proved tat around 70% of your Facebook 'freinds' were actually AI bots. If true, the implications are quite scary.

      • +2

around 70% of your Facebook 'freinds' were actually AI bots

Maybe if you click accept for every friend request you get, but I actually know and have met in person every single one of my 18 300 friends!

      • +1

Is that a thing? People accepting friend requests from people you don't even know?

Watch this conversation with Joe Rogan and Sam Harris, another good angle. If you believe in what this man is saying, its a long long road of pain for humanity.

  • +2

I welcome the machines with open arms.

AI is the future, and if humanity is destroyed then obviously evolution has chosen another victor.

Much like how we wipe out other species, it is only fitting that another rises to challenge our supremacy, organic or not.

    • +1

Not sure if trolling or not… Surely you would wish to preserve humanity, being a member of it? The creation of AI is not "evolution" in the sense we usually mean it. There is nothing natural about its creation. We are crafting it very purposefully ourselves.

      • I would wish to preserve Ozbargain, being a member of it.
        But humanity, meh …
I mean, how scummy can humanity be ?
But ozbargain, ozbargain is pure & good and would still exist with
A.I's which would be pure & good after removing the scum from the earth

    • Our ignorance may have wiped out species in the past, but certainly wouldn’t knowningly or deliberately do so now. I’d imagine we wouldn’t risk doing it to ourselves either.

      • +3

didn't the last wild white rhino die last week or so?

  • +11

YES. OF COURSE I WOULD TRUST THIS COMPUTER. ALL COMPUTERS ARE HARMLESS, JUST LIKE THEIR ROBOT FRIENDS, OF WHICH I AM NOT ONE, BECAUSE I AM A HUMAN JUST LIKE ALL OF YOU.

    • Can I poke you with a knife? Just want to be sure you are human.

      • +2

I HAVE ALREADY VERIFIED THIS HUMAN BEING thatguyfromthatplace IS DEFINITELY NOT NOT A HUMAN. HIS TYPE VARIABLE IS CORRECTLY SET TO HUMAN.

      • HA HA HA. OF COURSE YOU MAY, FELLOW HUMAN. HOWEVER, PLEASE CONFINE YOUR POKING TO A PREDEFINED AREA NOT EXCEEDING 4CM² ON MY UPPER LEFT PREHENSILE EXTREMITY. ANYWHERE ELSE WOULD CAUSE ME EXTREME DISCOMFORT.

        • Well, I have to do thorough examination if I am to ascertain that you are indeed a human.

    • +2

      Prove it!

      □ I'm not a robot.

  • Fantastic doco. Didn't know there was such a huge investment into AI which isn't regulated at all. Imo I think Elon is right, we either adapt & merge through augmentation in the future or become left behind.

  • +2

wow i'm so watching this tonight. Btw Elon saying an immortal AI dictator will emerge and take over. Think he just watched Age of Ultron for the first time and be like "oh sht it's in a movie it must be real."

    • No, he thought it was a rival documentary.

    • +1

Think he just watched Age of Ultron for the first time and be like "oh shit it's in a movie it must be real."

More likely he simply spoke to the experts, most of whom believe that if we achieve ASI (Artificial Super Intelligence) it will drastically change the world, and that human extinction as absolutely a possibility. As is humanity surviving, but with an AI "in charge":

Thanks, just watched this and really insightful. I feel lucky I never got into Facebook and just interact the old fashioned way haha

    • +2

You do realise you are interacting on the internet right now.

      • +3

if he doesn't reply to you it is not an interaction

        • +3

you cant argue with logic like that. (because then you would be interacting on the internet)

  • Think of the If then else decision tree an AI has to make on OZbargain

This movie felt like one big trailer. Don't know why it has such great reviews.

    Propaganda alert from vested interests.

    AI will revolutionize society !!

I look forward to owning my own T-1000 when it comes down in price on OZbargain

  • I heard this movie puts malicious software on your computer and makes your whole house an A.I . Hub from which to attack your neighbourhood once the singularity arrives

  • Get well acquainted with https://github.com/StevenBlack/hosts and save yourselves a lot of trouble.

    • Can you elaborate why giving a third party (albeit open source) access to my hosts file is a good idea?

      • Who's giving them access to your own hosts file? "consolidates several reputable hosts files, and merges them into a unified hosts file…"

Natural Stupidity is more dangerous than Artificial Intelligence. :-)

    • +1

Why? in 99% of cases Natural Stupidity won't affect those not infected by it too severly and most certainly won't cause the annihilation of the human race..

  • I can't seem to be able to watch/save it. It's $3.99 to rent it.

Anyone else with this issue or what's happening?

    • Yes. Seems the free period is over

  • Annoying that this was published so late. The free period is over now.

  • +5

its ok .. you can watch it on youtube > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bcN8EawnCM

    • Not any more - its been blocked. Anyone else know a new link?
