Just a heads up this model is a couple of years old and the newer/higher model (676) has been cheaper:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/351498

Good AVRs though and have had firmware updates to support Dolby Vision and DTS:X

      Thanks for your comment :)

Just letting you know that RIO had the Onkyo TX-NR676E at $585 while this deal was on at JB-Hifi… The reason it was so cheap was because there was a mistake made in the pricing of the unit when it was first advertised by JB, but us being RIO beat the price regardless because it's what we do :)

Unfortunately, you wont find a Dolby Atmos receiver at or around this price now, which is why this deal is so great..

Quick note: this model is last years model so not that old :)

      • Thanks for the clarification :)

      • What's this amp like for music reproduction? My current (old) Yamaha 5.1 Home Theatre Amp was pretty good, but always felt it lacked a little something, mostly likely as it was more geared towards 5.1 playback rather then 2.1.

        • same with my denon AVR 7.2 amp vs my denon stereo amp …. in these AVR amps there is a lot more complex audio path between source and speakers vs a dedicated stereo amp.

I use FLAC as my playback codec rather than MP3.

        • As a previous dealer of Yamaha, we found that when comparing the Onkyo products, the Onkyo AVRs had more power, bottom end, warmth and a fuller sound. They have a high current power supply which in turn gives more deliverance to the speakers. Onkyo have always focused more on the sound aspect of their AVRs rather than all the bells and whistles.
Of course a stereo amp will give you a little more in regards to sound but if you're looking for a bang for your buck these units are pretty impressive when it comes down to it.

That’s some brave words to use on this website.

If it's an Australian store, they're in stock of the product, they have the product advertised at the price, and are a certified dealer of the product it is RIO's price guarantee :)

        Wasn't this released in 2016?
        Aren't the x7x series the 2017 models eg. TX-NR575E.

  • I'm looking for a receiver, but no way will i go onkyo again after the hdmi fiasco with my previous onkyo.

I've been considering denon x3400h, marantz 5012, yamaha not sure on model yet. Whatever it is, it must be able to mux the centre to the left and right channels because i don't run a centre speaker (due to room geometry)

Do you think there will be any local deals, because I'd really like to buy local, but the Australia tax on receivers is phenomenal

    • Give Onkyo another go, they have fixed up the HDMI issues and overheating is gone also

      • +1

Nope. Onkyo demonstrated they are a business willing to continue to produce a product with known faults. That unit was several years old before they finally caved and gave the extended warranty on the hdmi board. I don't deal with businesses like that. If it was $100, sure… but that receiver cost me $1400. And that was on sale.

        • How long did they extend the warranty for faulty HDMI boards on the receivers? I have an old Onkyo receiver with a faulty board but thought my warranty had expired. Thanks

        • @genes888:

How old is your receiver ?

        • Your loss then, it's still the best bang for buck

        • @genes888:

I think it was an additional 2 years. ie: 5 years total. But I'm not 100%.

I kept 2x140mm computer fans mounted over the hdmi board permanently, powered by mains power, which kept it all cool.

    • the tax on receivers isn't phenominal,it's no higher than any other stuff like hardrives, the margins along the Australian supply chain are.

People say 10% GST is why we pay more ….. I pay $100 to ship amp from Germany Amazon and it's still much cheaper …..

      • thats exactly what people mean when they say the "Australia tax" .. the difference in price that cant be explained by currency rates / freight costs / gst

      • Unfortunately when you're getting your gear from overseas, you're not covered under warranty. I dealt with someone who had an Onkyo unit from Germany which he's had for about 8 years now but no repairer would touch it because it was bought overseas.
With this unit in particular you're covered with a 3 year Australian warranty. If for any reason something goes wrong (we haven't had any issues with their receivers since Onkyo fixed their HDMI issue) outside of that warranty, you can still get it repaired here in Aus. Better to be safe than sorry when it comes to electronics in my opinion :)

        • wasn't being negative about Australian stock at that price, just when we don't get the heavy discounts (your offer is 50% off rrp is on par or better than European) European stock becomes attractive ……

AVR are about feautures and number of iputs, etc, in regards to power, judge what you get by weight ….. if the transformer isn't big enough you won't get the wattage …. was disappointed with my new denon AVR1300, MUCH lighter and smaller transform than my older denon AVR 1300.

(P.S. my denon monoblock is 250W ….. it's 15.6kg ….. you need big transformers for wattage)

        • @garage sale:
I understand, I wasn't attacking… sorry if it came off that way. Just saying that typically it may be attractive to go for European in regards to price but you run the risk of not being able to repair in the off chance that something goes wrong.

Of course weight is going to make a difference when it comes to power but when you look at the features this AVR has to offer and the amount of power it has for the price it's at its definitely a steal in Aus..

        • There's nothing wrong with your price here, not at all. It was a general comment when I said Australia tax. Eg: denon x3400h $932 shipped from germany https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/363361

I'm totally happy to pay 10% more for GST. And a bit more on top to be local. But then it seems we're still being charged quite a bit on top of that. It's not your fault.

  • "With 130 watts per channel, this 7.2 Channel receiver comes with Bluetooth Audio / Wi-Fi® with Spotify, Tidal, and AirPlay and Wireless Audio Streaming with Google Cast™!"

All the reviews I have read on this unit, TX-NR555, state that it is only 80 Watts per channel.

So is it 80 or 130 Watts per channel ??

    • +1

Realistically it won't even be 80 either. But that's the case with most receivers.

    • It depends on how you use the receiver..
If you're running 6ohm speakers it's rated at 130 watts, but if you're running 8ohm speakers it's rated at 80 watts
In saying that, for the size and dollar value its got plenty of power. Really a bang for your buck with this unit.

      • I have some Krix speakers that are 4 ohms. Would I be able to run these the front and some AE 8 ohms for surround ? If so what
would be the power rating out of these speakers ? At the moment I'm just using my AE's all around. Just looking to maybe upgrade.

        Cheers.

        • This Onkyo unit has discreet amplification which means that each channel runs as a separate amp so it wont alter the performance of the other speakers connected. It'll be fine to run the Krix as your fronts and your AEs as your surround.. As long as the speakers are not lower that 4ohm you're all good :)
Your 4ohm speaker will run at about 180 watts and your 8ohm speakers will run at about 80 watts

  • Hi rep. Just wanted to ask your opinion. I currently have a yamaha rx-v1067. I'm happy with it, but I plan to upgrade to a 4k TV soon. Would not be an issue, but I have all my devices running through the hdmi pass through. I guess I'm asking if this would be a worthy upgrade, or more so do I need to upgrade if I go to 4k? Thanks

    • Hi :)

I would consider upgrading to the Onkyo TX-RZ710 AVR if you want like for like regarding power and number of HDMI in/out.
Ultimately if you want to utilise the 4K functionality from your other 4K device (gaming console, dvd player, etc) to your 4K TV and you're running everything through the AVR then you'll need to upgrade to a 4K AVR, otherwise you'll be watching in Full HD rather than 4K…

RIO currently have the TX-RZ710 on sale for $949 (RRP $1,999) which is a great bargain and worth looking at.. :)
