  • Will there be a new model this year?

    • +1

The chip should be three years old

      • but when?

        • This year

        • @Jackfruit: lol… So is xmas

  • +1

Other than the internal storage amount, is there any difference between this and the 64GB model?

    • +2

      Nope

      • Thanks for clarifying

    Xiaomi MI A1 5.5 inch 4G Smartphone (4GB + 64GB 12 MP Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 3080 mAh) - $175.98 USD
    https://www.lightinthebox.com/p/xiaomi-mi-a1-5-5-inch-4g-sma…

    • Thanks for posting this, I've just ordered one. Was worth the extra to get the 64GB I think.

    • Last week, Aliexpress sale, 64GB, USD176.99/A$231.53 less 10% (A$23.53) cashrewards, = A$208, with DHL :)

      • Wow, that's the cheapest price I have seen for the 64GB model AND with DHL delivery as a big bonus.

Was there a double cashrewards cashback deal last week then? Might have pulled the trigger on one of these at that price.

        • +1

          yes, 10% CR
64GB started at about 185, then reduced with a variety of anniversary coupons

  • Tempted to get one, has anyone had to deal with warranty issues? I've heard it's quite hard dealing with xiaomi international

    • Following. Also interested

  • How does this compare to the Redmi Note 4 (or 4X)? seems very similar although it has the type C port.

    • +2

My brother owns the note 4, if your not fussed about stock Android and a slightly better camera then I wouldn't go for the Mi A1. The Redmi note 4 has the same chipset and a 4000mah battery which is very good to have, you can use it all day then go-to bed at 12am with like 25% battery and you can also pickup the Redmi Note 4 a little cheaper usually

    • +1

Biggest difference is that the A1 is on the Android One program. You get software and security updates faster. I'm on a Redmi Note 3, and I'm not getting anything higher than Marshmallow. There's a lot of value using an Android One phone.

  • How long does shipping usually take? Thinking of getting one.

  • New model coming soon

  • Band 28?

  • +6

I have this phone, it's a great phone for the price but I have a couple of things to note.
    1. This phone doesn't have NFC which means you can't use apps like Google pay
    2. The service in rural areas using band 28 frequency can be a bit patchy
    3. Although the 3.5mm headphone jack has a built in amp which is very good, a faint hissing sound can be heard when using headphones.

But a here's couple of things I really like about the phone
    1. Runs Android one meaning you get the latest updates just like a pixel device
    2. The camera is incredible for the price (rear camera)
    3. The snapdragon 625 is a very capable chipset even though it is getting a little old

  • If you had $400 to spend on an android that is less than or equal to 5.5inches, is this it?

    • +1

Not if you want good reception in rural areas or NFC, otherwise this is a great phone for the price. See comment above yours for good points.

      • If Band28 is included on the phone and reception is still poor, I'd be guessing its the issue of coverage from the carrier more so than quality of the chipset used by Xiaomi?

        • No B28 here. I have same problem on my Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 and speak from experience.

The Sharp Z2 could be better suited if this is your need.

Of course, there is a plethora of other and better Android phones to be had below $400.

        • @datzed:

          Nice one.

Sure, later this evening I have spare time to tune in and add some points.

By the way, I really like the Mi A1 and if I lived closer to towers I would definitely consider this or the Mi A2 as one of my next phones.

  • What about this, https://m.lightinthebox.com/en/p/oukitel-mix-2-5-99-inch-cel…

Does anyone know if the cpu is decent?
