I don't like them. Stock up on "the spice tailor" or street kitchen when they are next in half price. Much tastier
Second that.
I used them and found them quite tasty. They're my go to now.
Tried them myself and found them disappointing.
Would not buy them even at half price
My advice is try one, and if you like it by all means stock up
which brand would you recommend instead?
Haven't tried every available brand eg spice tailor or street kitchen mentioned above.
Have tried sharwoods and passage to india, and found them marginally better than pataks. Although found that reducing meat content by 50%, I obtained a better gravy to meat content with passage to India.(recipe calls for 1kg meat, and you end up with hardly any gravy)
A much better simmer sauce was an aldi product ( can't remember the name, but it had whole spices above the lid). This was made in Poland, and surprisingly was the better by far among the simmer sauces I have tried.
A good tasting curry n rice combo was Woolworths Home Brand Chicken Korma, found in the frozen meal section. Tasty curry, but dodgy looking chicken pieces ( can't expect more I guess for $3)
@docians:
Thanks very much.
@docians: Damn, I swear by Passage to India
Just the simmer sauce? Or the paste too?
Excellent price OP. These are great quality.
Enjoy :-)
Wow… I'm shocked, I think Patak's is absolutely the worst quality on the market (my own personal opinion). I didn't realise so many people liked them!
Just wondering if Pataks here is not as good because they use a different formulation in Australia as compared to overseas
Eg patak's tikka masala sauce in Australia has 6% tomato puree and 0.5% ground spices
https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/716015/pat…
The UK version has 4% tomato puree and 2% ground spices
https://www.pataks.co.uk/products/sauces/tikka-masala-sauce
Most of the better reviews are not from Australia.
The korma was pretty bland when I had it
unsurprising as they use the watered down version (tomatoed down?) in Australia
do they think we are soft and can't handle a bit of spice? the very nerve :)
Are these any good for people that use them?
