EXIT

I've been with Uniti since Aug 2017 and have been very satisfied with them. There's no NBN in my area, so I was incredibly glad they came along. I have achieved consistently excellent speeds with them, sometimes even in excess of what I'm paying for — usually unheard of with ISPs… Their customer service team has also been a pleasure to deal with.

If you aren't in a contract, but still want to sign up, don't forget to use one of the referral codes below for $50 credit.

Details

Make the switch to Uniti and we’ll credit up to $400 of your previous broadband provider’s exit invoice on your new Uniti account, before April 30th.*

TO GET STARTED
1. Choose Your 24-month Plan
2. Use Promo Code EXIT on your application
3. Get connected!

HOW DOES THE EXIT FEE CREDIT WORK?
You’ll receive a request to send your previous providers exit invoice to us to confirm the amount we will credit off your account.
Once received and confirmed, we will credit the exit fee amount (up to $400) off your account. This will appear in your customer portal.
This credit can be applied to your next Uniti bills or to purchase add-ons for your account

IMPORTANT! DO NOT cancel your existing Internet service until your Uniti connection is tested and activated on the day of install. If we cannot connect you on the day of install for some reason, you will not be charged.

  • Not really a bargain… Exit fees paid, then locked in at an insanely high price for 24months lol

    IE 1TB data + 100/40mbps - $109.9. Telecube has had a similar plan multiple times for $70-75
Even if you really need to change provider, the $40/mo adds up to $960 over 24 months… Still isn't a bargain..

If only your area has no nbn, then this is an option.

As I mentioned, I don't have NBN in my area, and Uniti is primarily an NBN alternative, so that's basically who they're targeting (e.g. some unlucky bugger stuck on a Telstra sub-exchange/rim, locked in a contract).

Of course, wireless ISPs are always going to be more expensive, so it isn't for everyone.

      • Oh this is wireless, didn't notice that lol

        • Yup, it's fixed wireless :)

        • @itsfree: They only cover Adelaide and Melbourne, bit odd

        • @dyl: Yeah they've been doing a gradual, interest-based roll-out since they're a relatively new company

        • @itsfree: confused how there's interest for wireless in inner-cities though

        • @itsfree: out of curiosity what speeds are you getting?

          @Jonski:
I have been with Uniti for just over 2 years with the Raptor add-on. Getting 50/10 with no real noticeable slowdowns during evening peak period.

FTTN just became available in my street earlier this year with a node across the street, but I know my cable goes the opposite direction so could be around 400 metres to my node.

Always had problems with ADSL slowdowns and lucky to get 4Mbps on a good day so won't be going back to copper anytime soon.

          @dyl:

Not quite inner city, but my daughter recently moved to a unit in Mentone in south eastern Melbourne. Wireless was her only option. Apparently NBN HFC will be available "some time this year".

        • @Jonski: I get around 40/10 during peak times, and 51/11 during offpeak. Ping is always a solid 8-9 ms. I'm on the Raptor speed upgrade, but you can pay another $10 to get bumped to 100/40

        • @dyl: FWIW, I'm also around the Mentone/Mordialloc area, which has been notorious for the internet issues here, so it's not entirely inner city.

        • @dyl:

I moved from a regional city with FTTH NBN to inner city Melbourne with shitty ADSL2. That's why I signed up with Uniti.

It is a bargain for what it is.

Wireless ISPs require a large capital outlay to sign up a customer. There's the wireless dish/router hardware itself, as well as a 4-8 man-hours to visit the site, mount and align the dish, run ethernet POE cable, terminate cables, etc. Then when you leave them, they have to pay someone to come and remove all the equipment.

With wireless ISPs, you can sign up for a shorter contract (or no contract at all), but you will pay much higher setup costs that reflect the above cost to the ISP.

Compare that to ADSL or NBN where signing up a customer involves re-patching a cable in an Exchange (or it's entirely in software)

Their monthly fees are higher as running a wireless ISP is very different from ADSL/NBN infrastructure. They also seem to be very careful not to oversubscribe their access points and speeds (barring technical difficulties) are excellent, even in peak times.

If you're stuck with 3.5Mbit ADSL and no NBN in sight, 100/40Mbit with Uniti is well worth the cost.

Yeah I missed that it was wireless, my apologies. I probably should have read more of the post…

I wish I had something in my area like this. I don't have NBN (fee of $300 to connect) or ADSL access and data plans are expensive.

    • What's the $300 fee about? Sounds strange…..

I've been with Uniti for nearly 3 months and I'm very happy with the service. I'm on the 50/10 Raptor plan and consistently get those speeds.
