  • 6th Gen Intel Core i7 and RAM 8GB, no deal.

8GB of RAM is enough for most users including gamers.

I run all my A+++ games on ultra and never get past 5-6gigs of ram. Still amazes me when people complain 8 isnt enough ha.

        • -1

8GB actually isn't enough for high end gaming anymore without a performance hit, you will be dropping a barely noticeable amount of FPS on quite a few modern titles. Going forward 16GB should be fine for quite a few years to come.

This is especially the case if you have a card with less than 6GB VRAM.

The effect is probably strongest at the 15:00 mark, where CoD: WW2 really wants 16GB of system RAM even on cards with 6GB or more of VRAM, and even only at 1080p. The whole video is interesting on the subject though.

        • People use computers for things other than gaming.

There's no real difference between the 6th and 7th gen and having 8GB is plenty for the use this machine could do considering it's a low wattage CPU with entry level GPU. So apart from having 100 chrome tabs open, there's no real bottleneck that the CPU or GPU will be before the RAM.

Oh and ever since Chrome and Firefox stopped being so RAM hungry over the last few updates, I can't actually think of a use case scenario where having a 6th gen CPU and 8GB of ram would mean worse performance than having a 7th gen with 16GB. Could you let me know?

8gb isnt enough? Gonna have to be planning to be doing some serious video editing or something.

Same as last eBay deal, but last deal is Au stock and can got tax refund.

The Microsoft Surface Book runs Windows 10 Pro flawlessly

Isn't that cute, MS thinks Windows 10 is flawless.

  • Will we be charged 10% more for gst?

    • +1

When you choose checkout it shows GST included.
      Total $1,699.0 0GST Included $154.45

      • So can I claim tax refund with this when going oversea ?

        • As long as Kogan gives you Tax Invoice with their ABN, I don't see any reason that you can't.

    What dedicated gpu lol

    • +1

This model has the detachable base with discrete GPU. If you're not familiar with this setup check out some reviews.

    • AFAIK this has 1GB Nvidia GeForce 940M custom variant. I'd be interested if it was the Surface Book with Performance Base that is equipped with a 2B GeForce GTX 965M.

    • +1

I inherited one of these first gen surfaces with performance base ~940m/945m?/950m? GPU (PS only 1gb dedicated GPU ram) and it can sort of game as long as you ensure you are on dedicated GPU.

Don't misunderstand, it doesn't game well… But if you need to game and you are out and about you can.

Vermintide 2 on absolute bare minimum graphics 800x600 is 55fps easily playable. But at that res and settings it's potato grade graphics.

Biggest problem is the screen resolution, 3000x2000, nothing supports a nice resolution that fits properly, everything geither has black borders or is stretched just out of the right shape when full screen.

Beggars and choosers and all that (still better than the sp4 I had to choose from!)

  • So many problems with this listing.
    1) is it dual or quad core? Massive difference.
    2) what type of GPU?

  • Price increased : $1,799
