The proper brand name version distributed via Decathlon.com.au is very good, I've been using one for a year or so.
Can't speak for this particular brand.
nose and mouth chamber is divided from the eye chamber so fogging doesn't occur and the snorkel is valved against backflow.
If you are facially hirsute you may need to close trim before entering the water as beards will allow some seepage, overall they are fairly watertight.

    • Is that the Easybreath brand?

      • +1

Tribord Easybreath ;) The best gift my son has had so far. I recommend it to everyone, especially kids

        • Yeah. Triboard is the go. About double the price but works well.

These are great for surface snorkellers. You can't dive with them because the pressure on the face makes it very uncomfortable and there's no way to compensate for difference in air pressure.

    • I think it depends on depth, I don't dive very deep 2-3m and find the pressure bearable for short periods…
It will build the deeper you go though.

    • Do you know any thing you can do to the mask to stop it fogging up?

      • +1

        Saliva. Tooth paste. Shampoo.

      • An easybreath mask shouldn't fog up as it has separate airways for fresh and used/exhaled air. Fresh air comes from the middle part of the snorkel, passes through the face part and then through the valves to the nose/mouth. The air exhaled should go straight to the sides of the mask and up to the snorkel air outlets. If the upper part is fogging up that's not a good sign as it means that exhaled air remains inside the mask

Any idea how long the discount is for? Considering getting this for my 6yr old daughter, but would need to measure her face to be sure the small would be small enough (she probably wouldn’t use it till next year anyway).

Also, wonder what the difference is between this one & the other similar ones on the page.

    • If for a child, maybe consider something from an au seller so that you are covered under au accc and safety standards laws? Different manufacturers use different quality silicone, which would be my main concern….

    • My 6y.o (now 7) uses the small. The manufacturers don't recommend it for children so young as they feel that if the children dive a little and the snorkel valve closes to prevent backflow that the child may panic due to lack of breath or pressure from the mask. My daughter was diving about a meter within about 15mins of getting in the water.
As with all things, a little education and explanation goes a long way.

When you dive, there is a valve in the snorkel that closes, this prevents water rushing down the tube and entering your mouth, the result of this is also that you cannot breathe in at all (you would get a mouth full of water of course) but there is no signal at which point the snorkel goes under (and the snorkel is short) this means that your head only needs to be say 10cm underwater and the snorkel will block and you cannot breathe in, you can blow out however.
Once your child understands this they will not panic and they will only dive to a depth that they are comfortable with (and usually at that age they can't hold breath long).

We (about 7 extended family members) have used the Triboard brand masks on several trips over the last 12 months, usually snorkel for about 2 hours a day and have had them over a year, My 6yo niece now has one and is comfortable using it. I always rinse them in freshwater after use and store carefully.

The triboard costs about $50, I don't know how this mask stacks up in comparison.

and yes they are not diving masks

    • I had great results with a kids version and a buoyancy vest for my 5,6 and 9 year old to use in New Caledonia. They didn’t dive, but it meant they were able to comfortably float face down while a snorkelled next to them holding their hand for 10 or more minutes uninterrupted.

Bought ours from an Australian eBay seller but they were the same Chinese copies of the tribord originals.

      • This is exactly what I’m after it for.. daughter is 6 yrs old (would be 7 by the time we’re likely to use it properly, till then just in the pool for practice). Going back over to South Pacific (New Caledonia, mystery island etc) and she was disappointed she couldn’t see the fish/coral last time (other than from my GoPro).

Might grab this for $19 now & let her try it out… if she goes ok with it, I’ll keep an eye out for Triboard branded ones… any tips where to get these for $50? I’ve only ever seen these style sold for $120+ (‘ninja mask’ brand or something like that).

  • I heard it will built up CO2 inside then will cause unconscious, while you still in the water. That stop me buying it, is there any professional inspection on this kind of mask?

      Ridiculous

    • I'd never touch one of these things for the reports of this. Too much dead air space to flush out… There's a reason why traditional snorkels can only be a certain length to reduce the risk of CO2 buildup.

I've snorkelled for 2-3 hours continously and never felt feint or light headed.

  • My face dimensions were exactly 5.2 (between the 2 sizes) went for Large. Leaks badly from sides only 1m below surface and I normally happily get down 15m with standard mask/ snorkel. Not sure if the smaller size would help.
