I think the offer needs to be enabled before the 22nd and then it will last for 28 days
You won't get it in the post in time?
Optus has data free music streaming for the life of the plan, its part of the written terms of the Contract.
Link? Are you saying the "offer ends" date is wrong? Why would Optus want to make their deal look worse than it is?
Because they're obliged to tell you the expiry date of the offer as firejack said.
Details are a bit sketchy on optus.com.au/prepaidmusic but it seems as though they're ending their music streaming on the 22nd unless you recharge where you then keep the offer (normally signing up to a new service is activating sim card + recharge). Upon further inspection, it looks pretty dodgy haha
Should probably amend the title, to include that the 15gb is only on certain plans, and is NOT included with sim, only included upon an additional recharge (which you have to pay full price for) .
I clicked on deal for 15gb data, I need to activate an extra sim/phone for long life plan though. If I purchased this for long life plan activation, I would receive only I think less than half a GB of data. So please amend title accordingly.is NOT included with sim, only included upon an additional recharge
Where are getting this information from?
From description "Bonus also applies to 2nd $40 recharge made by 30/06/18" .
And also when I looked into similar offers recently, none seemed to apply to when you activate sim for 'long life' plans .
So I get 15gb data if I activate this as long life plan option, when I activate sim ?The key term is "also"
@firejack:
Yes, I noted that, but also when I looked into it recently, I found the GB were not available for sim activation, unless you activate on certain plans.
Are you saying that I can buy this and have 15gb extra, activating sim as long life plan option (180 days, or 365 day) ?@ozzpete:
Pretty sure the 15GB only applies to the Ultimate Plus plan. But you don't need to recharge to get it - it's included@iIVIi: Thanks. Yes, thats what I found when I looked into a similar optus offer recently.
Seems a bit dodgy to advertise as 15gb or 8gb, without being clear that it only applies to one particular prepaid plan.
Perfect for me. I got relatives coming over end of the month so I do need two Sim cards with talk and data.
I was in the exact situation, though got the sims for $15 last week
STAY AWAY FROM OPTUS!!!
Any particular reason why?
Optus is probably one of the best teleco's out there to be honest.
Best in what way…
Bought about 5 of these discounted starter packs before (not all in one go). All of them were faulty and cannot be activated online. Had to spend hours over the phone with incompetent overseas support reps to arrange for replacements/ manual activation.
I had that happen twice on the $30 starter packs.
See. I am not alone. Kindly remove your downvotes folks?
@nosrad: I think your initial comment warranted a neutral vote, but also think neg votes for that was not surprising because you didn't elaborate at all and it came across as more of a whinge/rant than anything constructive/useful.
Look at the pos votes on your constructive criticism of Optus where you actually elaborated on what happened.
I had problems with 2 optus prepaid sims. Online help were useless. Threw them in the bin and swore never optus again.
ditto! just head in-store and the sales rep are ever so helpful.
happened to me 3 times, one bought from Wooli, turned out faulty on activation, wooli refused to exchange or refund. took to Optus store, spent 30 mins, at the end, I had to pay $2 for new sim. then rang customer services to transfer my prepaid package to the new sim card.
Stay away from you
anyone knows expiry date of the SIM/offer? My parents coming end of May for a month, can I activate the SIM then?
you can buy it now but you need to activate by the 28th of this month, since you will be looking at june time the offer wont work to well for you :c
Many thanks
I received the sim card. The expiration date mentioned is 01 Dec 2019.ao I think we can use it later minus the bonus data.
Calling all sim sluts!!!
It's at the upper end of what id normally pay
Are you talking about Kogan the Bogan? They have slow download speed and keep stuffing up the porting process, to and from, other providers.
My experience in porting my number between the Big Three has always been flawless- it usually takes 5-10 mins for the whole process to be completed. On the other hand, Kogan gave me nothing but trouble and I never had any pleasant experience dealing with them. In one occasion when I transferred my number from Kogan to Optus, Kogan managed to "misplace" my number and it was in limbo for 4 days. How the f*** you could lose a number, when the process is simply transferring across the customer information to the new provider?
$1 starter kit from Kogan is cheap as condoms but I'm gonna stick with the proven ones due to the above reasons.
I am almost out of the 25 woollies starter packs I bought for a buck each in 2016. I live in hope of seeing another killer deal to replenish my supplies.
+1
One of the plan (long term) is for 180 days…charging at .05c/mb for data, so technically…if i am using data only, it will be 8gig to be used within 6 months !?..
800 MB you mean
Woops…thanks…glad I asked…
So I can still activate this in a few months and get the original value, i.e $40 starter sim with 7gb ?
Yes you can
Hi..
Is it possible to buy few 10$ Optus Sims(40$ worth) and few 10$ vodafone Sims(40$ worth) and use Mobile Number Portability Service to switch between these networks every month? That way our monthly burn rate is just 10$. Any issue with this approach?Yes you can. It's called "Sim slutting"
No issue, just the hassle of porting each month. Personally I accept this, but others may not.
Also personally where possible I would try to keep it to $5 a month or less, eg Optus have been doing the $30 packs for $5 delivered every few months, and at least for my needs the $30 packs are fine. Telstra used to do $5 for $30 packs, but they haven't for roughly 2 years now, but I'm assuming there's a reasonable chance they may bring that back now that Google play billing is no longer a thing.
Oh nice… don't really mind the additional burden. I need access to IDD, hence $40 plans really helps in my case.
It would be much much easier for you, to just do a sim-swap (sim-replacement) each month, or whenever the credit that came with that sim runs out.
Issue with porting, is the time it takes. This depends on which network you are porting from. Number porting from 1 network to another is never a quick process. Can take up to 3 working days I believe.
Sim-swap , takes a phonecall to optus, or visit to optus store, then they say 'between 15 minutes, and 4 hours maximum' , then your set. Also you can use the old sim until you see it stops working, then just put new simcard in. 'Sim-Swap' is same number, same plan, same network. Porting is much more hassle and time consuming.Half agree.
The SIM swap method is good in a way, but requiring a phone call/visit is the part which is arguably more hassle.
A port can usually be done online.
Really, you would be OK with waiting several days for a port, just to avoid a 2 minute conversation with someone on the phone . LOL.
Personally I prefer human interaction rather than online, self-service, automated stuff etc . Each to their own though. We are all different, which is a good thing :)
Go to office works, I’m pretty sure I saw a SIM card from optus there that had 15gb on the front and required activation before the end of the month. It was only $5, I thought it was a great deal for Optus users. It’s not on Officeworks website
Anyone knows the expiry date of the starter pack? not the data offer. I don't really care about the data offer, more interested in stock up.
01 Dec 2019
I have issues porting from lebara (vodafone network) to optus recently. It's said my number already exists in optus.
If it was over the phone, they may have heard you wrong on 1 of the number in your phone number.
If you are sure the number is not with optus, then I would try again, but get them to repeat number back to you to ensure same mistake doesn't happen again. It was over the Internet activation process not over the phone. I'm now with Telstra prepaid. Also I did try again just now but it still says my number is already on the Optus network. So I guess they've blocked me from porting my number to them.
I had the same problem once, could not port into Optus as they said I was already with them, and I definitely was not. I was activating online too. Turned out it was a technical problem with their different internal systems getting out of sync with each other. I suspect you have the same problem, it's not that you've been blocked. I would try to get it resolved, so that you can port into Optus in future. About 2 or 3 days before your plan to port out of Telstra, contact Optus on Prepaid activation support: 1300 737 252 -> 1: sim -> 3: transfer number, and explain the problem. If they can port you quickly then you only lose a few days of Telstra, but if they take a few days then you have a buffer before your run out of credit on Telstra. That's what I would do, at least.
@nickj: Thank you very much for your help. I appreciate it.
Im fairly certain its illegal to block your from porting.
The reason you are allowed to port number to another network without cost, is in the interest of fair trading and fair competition.
I would try going in to store.
Double the price, but in case anyone needs one quickly, Australia Post are selling it for $20 from March 19 to April 15.
Does anyone know if you can put these "starter sims" in an Optus 4G pocket modem? Thanks!
