Seem really dodgy when i called that plan is only available in a very limited area and and add ons were expensive. Slow internet. Instantly tried to put me on the $80 plan which included less and the guy tried to trick me and confuse me about what was included they also have about 5 company names on wirlpool but when you ring the different numbers the same guy answers. I could predict future problems if i joined so i would stay clear

not really a bargain, plenty of "cheap" deals if you are in one of the few exchanges that support some of these plans in inner metro suburbs, but the bulk of people cannot get these and it is not advertised honestly, infact it took me ages to work out i couldnt get this plan, its called bait advertising since its not apparent to people who cant get it and they are tricked into going onto another plan which isnt a bargain, so i negative this one as its nothing special to begin with and also dishonestin how its advertised

    • Agree, bait advertising.

Here's a little life lesson for yuz. A couple of years ago I got cold called by a mob in Perth - $19 line rental including 100 local calls. I must have been not thinking straight - I stupidly signed up - three weeks later they went bust and my line was cut off including the ADSL plan I'd connected to three weeks before I changed phone companies. I had to pay an exit fee because I'd 'chosen' to end my ADSL plan, pay to get the phone reconnected, pay to get ADSL reconnected. $550 all up.

Has denationalising Telecom really been that great? Seems to me it only means duplicating services in the juicy markets and lots of 'white shoe brigade' types running dodgy little companies like this one.

    • dodgy little company - you obviously did not read their website…
they are one of the top 20 ISP's in Australia!!!
      :P

      • i wonder if a got a a 3G modem, sat in the city and charged people to connect during their lunch break… would i make it to that list too?

      • Yes, top 20 according to who. I happen to be one of the top 3 commenters on Ozbargain (according to my mate Bruce). Therefore you should take my pronouncements as gospel. :-)

        Wasn't OneTel a 'top 20'ish type company?

  • I have used them for Internet and home phone. Save yourself some trouble and signup with someone else.

They are not worth all the lost time and peace of mind. Stay away from Spin. You have been warned.

  • I'm currently with them an would advise users that the usage meter that Comcen (Spins offsider - essentially the same company) supplies is extremely dodgy. It's currently telling me I've downloaded 11 Gb peak, 10 Gb offpeak. Now I only download via torrents, and I'm able to see in uTorrent exactly what has come up and down. uTorrent shows less than half that estimated by Comcen. I know there are overheads with the bittorrent system, but double? I don't think so.

  • it's established in 1995 guys. with all australian call centre.

    • According the description at the top, it was established twice in 1995, twice Australian owned and has two call centres; in Sydney and in Australia.

I've been with Spin/Comcen. They were a good value in 2004-2008 but later I felt that their prices were no longer competitive. They had only 1-2 technical support persons and I had to be on hold for 15-20 mins before getting through to the very tired sounding tech support person.

  • Hi all,

I am a representative for Spintel.

To answer some of your questions:

    • We have been offering telecommunication services since 1995. The plan is delivered over Optus infrastructure and is limited to areas where Optus is available, this is why we recommend you call us so we can check your line first. If Optus was not available we would have suggested another suitable plan, but you would have been under no obligation to take it. We have 2 brand names, Comcen and Spin, not 5. They are sister companies who use the same call centre, resources and work force in Australia.

    • We clearly state that it isn't available in all areas and to confirm coverage with our sales team. This way we can run a line check to see what is actually available on your line.

    • We are a top 20 internet provider confirmed by the Australia Bureau of Statistics.

I'm happy to answer any other questions you may have.

    Cheers.

  • do offer any data about 30Gig instead of 10GB?

  • Hi truebargains,

At this stage there are no plans to release a 30GB plan. However if there is demand for such a plan we would definitely look into it.

    Cheers.

  • I demand it.

it would complete with exetel, tpg

who I am going with if you don't release those plans.
