  • wow leginmat, that was fast! anybody's got reviews for the printer?

    • +2

from what i've read, it's crap ! uses up the ink way too fast and very unreliable

      • it's not that it uses ink way too fast. it's because this printer (like most other cheap printers) come with very little ink to start with.

anyway, the cost of the single page for this printer is around 15 cents. yes, it's really expensive when you compare this to laser printers (where the cost is 1 or 2 cents) and you would be plain silly to use this printer in the office. however for home usage if you print like half-a-dozen of pages or so per week, it's a great deal.

if you need to print more, buy yourself something else and give this one to your grandma :)

There goes Grandma's pension money on Dell ink cartridges! ;-)

  • Took 7 minutes for deal to become active!

Research ink availability and prices before you buy.

That said, I made an impulse buy with a V313 printer and regretted it now. No ink refills, and cartridges can only be sourced from the Dell website.

  • +1

Hmm yeah looking around..buy ink from dell..i think not

  • +3

Dreadful reviews on the printer - do a Google before buying!

  • +1

lol @ the belkin router, not even 1 has been bought yet!

  • As a printer, the ink may cost quite a bit in the long run.

But if you still use fax quite a bit, $34.51 is more than justified IMHO.

    • Yeah, perhaps for sending faxes… but how do you receive / print the ones you get in reply?

      • -1

Yeah, I guess cost effective if sending faxes, not so if you receive a lot of faxes.

  • +2

It is a trap. In no time the ink is empty and you need pay $45 for just a black one.

Unless Dell let you buy extra cartridges at the same discount.
I'm still waiting on my V105 with extra cartridges.

  • Actually I'd be tempted by this just for the ADF scanner if I didn't already have the j4580 for $65 from prev bargain: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/24635

But in saying that I do agree with llama… reviews are not favourable.

  • +2

at first I was like , wow I am gonna get it for 35$, but after reading a few review, not so much.
I will wait for a nice mono laser printer maybe. Enough with this ink jet cartridge drying out….

  • despite the high cost of cartridge, it is gone in 60 minutes, well almost.

    • Well those who got it can always chicken out right…

they only need to buy when they get the email confirmation link and act on it…

Just FYI for people who don't realise

Dell could give these away and make a good profit, they make all the money from the ink, they wouldn't be doing this if cheap 3rd party ink or refills were available online, but they aren't.

They can't reduce the prices on their main website because it would devalue the product, selling them on Dell Swarm makes people value it at the RRP but buy it at a cheap price. Basically if they gave them away people would value them as nothing and not be as interested.

    See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freebie_marketing

I'm also guessing just like HP printers, it won't scan/fax without ink, if it does then thats awesome.

There's also no reason to complain about ink cost etc, all new inkjet printers are the same

    • Same concept has been used since the days of Polariod instant cameras. And men's razors… the handles are cheap, but replacement blades are a killer.

  • Not interested, will stick with my old Canon s550 (3rd party ink is cheap)

  • I last received a free Dell inkjet from online purchase and was not able to give it away for free. Inkjet is useless unless you are able to source an after market cartridge. The other issue is dry ink that clotted the nozzle that costs more than the printer to replace.

  • sold out

  • Whats even lamer is that Dell doesn't ship to PO boxes.

They insist on you having to pick it up and sign papers when it arrives by courier.
I can't sit at home all day and wait for cartridges to arrive.

  • You'd have a hard time giving me a dell printer for free, and Dell actually do give them away for free!
