Wonder if they're allowed on planes

    • +2

Yes it is permitted on planes. It has been re certified and has had no problems with the new battery.

    • It looks exactly like the Note 7. I wouldn't buy this just because of the hassle of getting through security.

      • No branding of the Note 7 tho, so nothing can really happen.

  • +1

    Interesting

    • Single Sim Only.

      • Not a problem for most, but I would love to see a dual sim phone flagship where the second sim doesn't take over the SD slot.

        • I'd be surprised if they continue with SD cards for much longer to be honest. They don't even necessarily like having them in cameras now as it's always been quite volatile.
I know the newer ones are better, but most companies take them as a unsecured and unreliable when it comes to phones.

        • +1

          Yep, me too.

That's why I jumped on the Moto G5+ ( most of the specs are good enough for me ), this has dual sim3G/4G + separate SD slot.

  • These are grey import right?

    • +3

      Yep, sure is.

    • Samsung Australia never offered the refurbed SE model. It's only in "Select markets"

      • Would I get a tax invoice for TRS with this?

        • No you won't. You cannot claim TRS if you never paid GST in the first place. Since these are imported and under $1k, then you don't pay GST.

  • +4

$685 delivered via DSE/Kogan eBay store (using 5% off code), but you should be able to pick up some $30/50 off Kogan vouchers from the classifieds section here. My only concern with this device is software updates.

  • +5

Took its time to reduce to "reasonable" levels for a technically refurbished model. Unless you really need the pen, most people should opt for the S8+ instead being "half" a generation ahead with better camera and specs - for not that much more during the sales events (@$7xx) or even go straight for the Note 8 at @$8xx.

    • Bugger bezels and easier to hold of your are into that kinda thing.

  • +2

OP perhaps amend title to Samsung. Ah, I'm seconds too late!

  • -1

I still use the Samsung S6 want to upgrade but not sure what. The newer phone is not much of an upgrade these days. Well nothing the S6 can't do that the newer phone can.

The S6 is perfect size and I hate the edge screen, they are stupid for several reason.

    • +7

I've been using an S6 for work for 2 years and I have to say it's got to be the worse phone out of the galaxy range - no sd card slot and the battery is woeful, something like 2600mah. If you can get the phone to last a day through normal usage you should go and buy yourself a lotto ticket.

    • +2

I upgraded to the S8+ from the S6 edge (which i passed to my wife).

I never realised just how horrible the battery in the s6 edge was until i upgraded. I had to constantly keep the s6 on charge to get through the day.

The battery on the S8+ is a massive improvement. I rarely, if ever, have to worry about the battery.

I'm not saying get an S8, im just saying that some newer phones do offer significant upgrades: battery being one of them.

    • +4

anything is an upgrade from the S6… lol

      • The s7 battery isn't any better. I need to put it on charge at 3pm daily

        • what do you start of the day?

        • @wangsk: 100%. It just drains really quickly from just browsing and using the phone.

I just make sure to keep it charged when i'm at work - so it's not a massive deal. My Xperia Z2 could go 1.5 - 2 days before a charge though.

    • I have S8 and I agree on the curved screen. It's a gimmick and distorts the image along the edges when you're watching a movie, due to refraction. Other than that, I like the newer design with slimmer bezels.

  • +1

"When choosing the Galaxy Note FE you can rest easy knowing you’re using one of the safest smartphones on the market."

Lol. It may not be the fastest, have the brightest/sharpest screen, its a generation behind, but you can be rest assured you're not carrying a molotov cocktail…

    • So many pros.

  • FE for firey explosion. Amiright? :p

  • What CPU does it have?

    • Exynos 8 Octa 8890

  • +2

To be completely honest, I thought Samsung would want to pull its Note 7 debacle under the rug as quickly as possible. Instead they've chosen to attempt to resurrect it with the same specs, 9 months later.

    Also

Made exclusively for fans of the Galaxy Note, the Samsung Galaxy Note FE is a brand new device that’s been reengineered with unused components, and unopened Galaxy 7 devices replaced with safe batteries.

I've never heard someone talk out their arse more in my life.

    • +6

Like the description from the back of a wine bottle.

    • +1

It’s no worse than any other marketing. Why wouldn’t they try and recoupe some of their losses (“limit environmental impact”). It’s only available in certain Asian countries, and only in limited quantities. The Note 7 was incredibly well received by reviewers and consumers. At the nd of the day, you don’t have to buy it, so who cares?

      • -3

Why wouldn’t they try and recoupe some of their losses

Because in doing so, they are resurfacing something that happened 9 months ago and reminding consumers that their previous phone was a catastrophe.

It's no worse than any other marketing.

"Made exclusively for fans of the Galaxy Note" isn't even 'marketing' as much as just plain waffle. Fans of the Galaxy Note would have bought the 8. Also, this 'exclusivity' does not exist. Anyone can buy the phone if they want. I think what they are trying to say is more like "you would have to be really into the Galaxy Note to buy this"

        • +1

They’re not “resurfacing” anything. The FE was released in July last year, it’s not exactly news. Did it hurt to Note 8 launch? The S9 launch? No, and no. How much have you heard about the FE? It was released in limited quantities to limited markets, it was never a mainstream release. It totally sold out in Samsung’s home country within two months.

Maybe you should get in contact with Samsung since you know how to run a multi-billion dollar conglomerate better than they are?

        • -5

@aja12: It's hilarious how they've only released the FE "Fan Edition" in non-English speaking countries.
Btw I don't need to run a multi-billion dollar conglomerate to know when mistakes are made.. Maybe you do?

        • @pennypincher98: Why is it hilarious?

    • +4

You've clearly never heard of Parliament house then :)

      • Hahaha so true but Parliament in general tries to buries its mistakes deep below the surface :)

        • Or hang them off telegraph poles :)

    • +1

i true Galaxy Note fan would have a Galaxy Note 8 by now lol

      • I think a true Note fan would keep their Note 5, as it so I'd the best phone out there.

        • As a note fan I can confirm I'm considering replacing my note 5, but only because the battery life is shortening and replacing the battery looks like a complete stuff around.

        • +2

The first Note without a replaceable battery, no MicroSD slot, and the S pen that breaks if you put it in the wrong way? Nope.

        • Yeah nah. Going from the 5 to the 8 was an upgrade I didn't realise how much I needed till it was done.

        • +1

A true Note fan would have skipped the utterly disasterous Note 5. Was a downgrade from the Note 4 with no expandable storage (it's for power users!). The true Note fan kept their Note 4/Edge and upgraded to Note 8 skipping two generations.

        • Thanks for letting me know. Maybe I should do it after all, since battery life isn't great. The problem is that Note 5 screen looks so much better side by side to the Note 8. Tried this in store twice.

  • +2

The S Pen is the Boss.
I have been waiting a while for these to show up (think about it, Samsung wasn't ever going to recall all that inventory and then junk them) but fate intervened and I'm using its replacement.
My opinion is the price for this Fan Edition is still too high.

    • +5

Agreed. I'd buy it for 400

      • Spot on!

    • +1

      Fan Edition

So, this new phone includes a fan so the battery doesn't get too hot and explode? Nice ;)

  • For a few dollar more you can find refurbished Note 8 so why the hello would some go down this path? At a decent price this would be a great deal but fir $700? No thanks

    • Yea why get a new classic when you can just get the games on your phone?

  • +2

To someone who prefer physical home button
    And doesn't want bitchy button

  • +1

Heads up : this is non au product, hence you can't use Samsung Pay, neither can you find a firmware that Supports it.

    • Is this Korean stock or Malaysian?

      • Malaysian - Korean stock sold out 6 months ago.

  • -1

Don't do it! Kogan sell the s7 edge with a bigger battery and .2 inch smaller screen much cheaper. No s pen but who cares? The s7 edge had the biggest battery they sell. This is a nonsense deal.

    • +1

      The s-pen defines the note.

For people who don't care about the s-pen, save yourself a few hundred dollars and just stay clear of the note range.

  • Will this ever get oreo?
