Sure you can buy a Nexus S for US$529 (if you can find stock), but you have to ship it here and you won't have an Australian warranty.

there heavily patched and modified symbian OS can't compete with the likes of android and iOS.
dont buy!nokia are shifting away from symbian to meego (linux based) for their future smartphones. i think symbian will still be on their low end phones. i think meego is available for the n8.
To the end user, it shouldn't really matter - Nokia is pushing for Qt software that will work on both Symbian and Meego.
Software wise Nokia can't compete with the dead Symbian, but alot of people are just using a phone, well, as a phone. They might do a little surfing, a little this and that etc. So for them, Symbian is probably enough for now. Symbian ain't fancy or cool, but the N8 got decent hardware and will probably do the job for the less tech savvy.
Many new brands are much better than Nokia..
not a bad price, n8 has awesome specs, symbian unfortunately is a let down, but usable if you have spb mobile shell

i have only owned a nokia once, back in 2001-2002 for a year.
for me, the most important is what the o/s can offer, ie convinient to get apps and games.
with jailbroken iphone (ios) you virtually can get 250,000 app games at the moment.
what other o/s can offer the same?adroid? only 70,000 app games.
symbian? not want to know, must be little only
win mob? maybe heaps but i know its not easy to get them from inet.sure….but srsly how many apps do you need? 100?? 200?? 1000??
There are sooooo much crap on the Apps store….same can be said for android as well.
For most ppl, all you need is that 20-30 apps…
Be real~ If i really want 250,000 apps, i can easily get an ipod touch, they are dirt cheap these days plus a lot lighter and thinner than ip4. Hey it's tougher as well, at least its back is not made with glass rofl.
however, i will choose an android smartphone over iphone anyday!
Counting how many apps/games are available for each platform is a very simplistic way to compare, bordering on irrelevant.

99% of these 250,000 or 70,000 apps are useless crap. You have probably a couple hundred good utilities/apps, and another couple hundred good games. And if they are good they are usually ported across platforms.

I have the green N8 & it's a top phone very fast & responsive. The camera is awesome, especially the videos.
I'm thinking of getting it just for the HDMI out feature… MKV playback on the fly… how cool is that?? Traveling abroad? Bored in your hotel room? Just plug in your N8!
How long can the battery last when playing video?
Not too sure to be honest… i guess it would be wise to have a charger nearby if playing for extended periods but I'm sure it would last at least 1 or 2 movies.
