HP 65W USB-C Charger (Works with MacBook Pro 13) $48 Delivered @ Mediaform eBay

230
P20TECH

Was looking for a 3rd party charger for a MacBook Pro 2017 and came across this. Much cheaper than the Apple solution. Being HP, I assume this is as good or better than other third-party chargers.

Can use P20TECH for 20% off the listed price of $60.

Australian stock.

Delivered next day for me in Sydney via Fastway.

There is another more expensive version of this with model number X7W50AA. It is $80 with the discount. Seems identical to me!

  • Looks good. I personally use one of these as a secondary even though it charges a bit slower. (45W according to amazon faq)
    https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Premium-Charger-PowerPort-Deliv…

    • FYI there's a newer model, although not sure what's the difference https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B072K5ZJXF/

      • Thanks I actually got the version you linked these things look so simlar

      • That's not the same, max via PD is only 30W on that thing, some laptops need 45w or they won't charge.

        • MBP 15" charges with 30W albeit slowly.

        • +1

Nope, I have the older version and can confirm it charges at 20V/2.25A (45W). See Benson Leung's comment here.

        • @tukanglistrik: that's the difference between the old and the new version, I believe. They limited to 30W on the new model.

        • @Averell: Well the old version also had spec written only 30W, because the Macbook 29W was the only available PD device at the time, but it does conform to PD 2.0 spec at 45W.

I know this costs a bit more, but I got it when it for $40 with a previous code and I think is a much better unit

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Kogan-Premium-80W-5-Port-USB-Char…

It charges my XPS13 and the extra USB ports charge my other devices. It comes with one USB C to USB C cable as well.

    • Is there any review on this one? I have concerns on the noise

      • Have this right next to me right now - it's completely silent.

        • Sorry, when talking about noise, I meant the variance in output voltage, not the sound.
I'm using an Aukey charger, which I suspect having high level of noise which causes problems with the touchscreen of some of my phones (so I cannot use them when they are beging charged). Earlier I had an Anker one, which didn't have such problem.
Some reviewer measured the output from that Anker model that I once had, and they said that's one of those with lowest level of noise.

        • @Averell:

I use my phone while charging all the time with it. Also my XPS13 touchscreen when charging also. And my Nintendo Switch touchscreen.

Never heard of a charger making touchscreens not work before. Strange.

        • @Crowdedthehouse: it happened with some phones only. I experienced it with my Lumia 920 and my wife's Motorola X Play when they were being charged with any port on that Aukey charger (the one with 4 smart USB A ports and 1 QC USB A).
I will try with that Kogan 80W then.
          Thanks for your replies

    • Would highly recommend this Kogan unit too. It's so flat I fit it in a side slot of my backpack. No noise and the only charger I now take travelling for my huge number of devices (e.g. Switch, Xiaomi Notebook, Phones).

    • Interesting…it's a clone of what I've been looking at in Amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071GQVFWT/

      • Everything Kogan is a cheap OEM job with “Kogan”’ slapped on it.

“Much better unit” compared to the HP is an incredibly spurious claim. I think they are trying to say it has more ports or something.

        • The only thing spurious is your own statement maybe? No need to be supercilious. Ok so maybe a relatively better unit? The build quality had nothing to fault. I've owned HP a sh*tload of HP products including a similar charger for the Spectre my godfather is head of R&D for AsiaPac and there's nothing particular to say the HP unit would be better.

Even though Kogan do not manufacturer the unit, it is well built and sturdy as I've dropped it many times without breaking or cracking. Better as in its 80W compared to 65W also, but I'm actually not sure if the USB C is 80W. Could be a misnomer and only 80W total output along with the other ports, but having the extra ports by my bedside without the need for another power brick to charge my phone and wireless headphones makes it a much better unit in my books.

  • Does any of them work with XPS 13 9350?

    • The Kogan one charges my XPS 9365, so I would assume it would charge your 9350

  • will this work with the iPhone X

    • +1

Yes, but a 30W PD USB-C Blitzwolf would be a lot cheaper.

      • oh thanks! when did they come out?

        • Sometime in late 2017. They've been on ozbargain a couple of times.

  • Does it charge faster than the normal Apple charger for MacBook Pro 2017?

    • No

    • You could always plug in two at once and let us know how it goes? lel
