How Many Raw Eggs a Day Should I Consume?

I'm looking to get a bit healthier and lose a couple of kilos only. I want to switch from meat to raw eggs for a while. How many eggs per day should I consume?

I'm thinking of having them raw to cut down on cooking time and washing up so I can spend more time on Ozbargain.

*** Update***

Just consumed 2 raw eggs for the first time at 1.00pm, I now feel very full for the cost of $0.50. This could save me a few bucks.

Update

Just consumed 2 raw eggs at 11.14am 22/02. I made an interesting observation, there is no warning sign regarding consuming raw eggs on the package.

update

Just had the 6th raw egg of the day, feeling great so far!

update Last 2 eggs of the day down the hatch, smoking it! More being delivered tomorrow!

update 4 raw eggs so far today, feeling great! Saved heaps of money this week!

It would be interesting to hear from anyone who has contracted food poisoning from eating raw egg. So far we are drawing a blank which is very interesting!

Update

We have many users who have differing opinion regarding a 1 in 20,000 chance of getting salmonella after eating a raw egg. Do we have any number bods out there that can explain to everyone? Much appreciated.

*8 raw eggs today, quick and cheap, 1 in 20,000, great odds!

    • Eggs are the only REAL Superfood.

Superfood is a term invented by marketers to delude you so you eat more.

Everyone should eat more eggs. They're high in protein and good fats with no carbs. They're literally a superfood.

  • Avoid eating more than 2 egg york's per day.

Do not eat Raw eggs if they are not certificated to be eaten as Raw.

    • +1

      wrong.

    • Why do I find the certificate please?

      • I do not know. I have not seen that in Australia supermarket. It is quite common in Japan as people love to eat raw eggs with beef and rice. Those eggs are strictly produced in a very clean environment and have a very short shelf life.

        • It is illegal to import fresh eggs, so fresh eggs sold in Australia will be grown locally.

Fresh eggs should have a shelf life of over 2 weeks.

We shouldn't need such certification in Australia, factory farming might be inhumane physiologically, but it's more hygienic than a mom and pop grower who feeds their animals rotted meat.

Personally I would find a local farmer and buy barn laid or free range in trays.

        • @Superannuation: I am talking about shelf life only for a day.

        • I'm not in Japan though, lol.

        • @Superannuation: how do you grow an egg?

  • there is literally NO reason to consume raw eggs. boil your eggs in the morning and peel them all. stick them in the fridge and just eat them throughout the day.

Cook the eggs. Just manly stupidity for youtube videos and telling friends about it about consuming them raw, just cook them and save the risk. Eggs cooked, you'll lose weight. My standard breakfast and sometimes other meals is eggs, tomato, avocado.

    • -1

Why would you made stupid videos about eating tomato and avocado?

    Nice shitpost.

  • Wonder who told you eating raw eggs is ok.

Hope luck is with you or you won’t be feeling good soon

    • 20,000 1 odds told me it's OK. If you had takeaway 20,000 times how many times would you get ill?

      • Depends what the odds are

Buy 20 chooks , eat whatever amount they lay per day

    • Female

      • 10 male 10 female.
        Keep the chooks happy ;)

        • +1

1 male 9 females. Better return.

          @4sure:
True . And 1 very happy, polygamist, male:)

  • And if you want to freak the chooks out, take fittyfitty's advice "drilling a 6mm hole through one end of the egg and immediately sucking the contents out through a straw" …. Do this in front of the chooks lol

Some herbal medicine person I know told me that the consumption of too much egg white protein per day (more than one) is not easily broken down and can cause liver damage or something. I heard this in passing so figured I would pass this on in passing. Hopefully it doesn't. Good luck.

    • "Some herbal medicine person" hahaha /ignore

  • Dude, here's a deal for you: 12 Fresh Cage Eggs 700g $2.70 (1 Month Shelf Life) @ Coles (Instore and Online) - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/362875

    Keep on trollin'

Zero. Cook them like an evolved human.

Ok housewife. Make me some eggs after you wash the dishes and do the laundry.

      • No problem.
*Warning, may contain traces of nut.

  • i hear the real nutrition is in the box and shell. gardens around the world flourish because of them…. 10 boxes with shells a day for a month would be the ultimate cleanse

    • The broken shells are great to keep slugs and snails at bay. I was going to make a thread about eating the shell but may leave it for a wee while.

    None, you should go vegan.

  • +2

It will definitely help you lose weight especially if there are traces of salmonella. You could also get even better results from raw chicken.

  • None, raw eggs are a high risk food for food poisoning.

    • 1 in 20,000 isn't high risk.

      • I am a food safety supervisor and raw eggs are classed high risk.

        • +2

High risk to you, but not the op. Let Darwinism sort this one!

        • I'm a logical man. 1 in 20,000 baby girl.

        • @OzzyOzbourne: Tell that to the 120 million strong Japanese culture that eat raw eggs, good luck Ozzy.

        • +2

@volcanoeqcycle: In Japan, eggs are washed thoroughly before they are sold, so there's little to no risk. I think you have a reading problem, because this was said already.

  • +1

There's a reason why recipes involving eggs warn you not to eat any of the raw batter.

You're welcome to take the risk if you want, it would be great if you could understand that it is completely pointless as there's no advantage to eating them raw, but it is your own body so go ahead and hurt it if you want to.

Just know that if you get salmonella poisoning and post on here about it, you'll get no sympathy and instead probably a lot of people laughing at you for bringing it on yourself.

    • 1 in 20,000 chance, go on, have a raw egg Quantumcat.

  • +1

Anyone seen that film Idiocracy? This post seems like that.

  • Just a little anecdote. I tried storing eggs in the kitchen many years ago, no use of the fridge. I read somewhere that this was perfectly fine, just that they wouldn't last as long.

Long story short, I ended up eating some of the eggs a few days past their use-by date and they tasted a little funny, were slightly green when cooked… I can report I never got food poisoning. Maybe I was lucky, but I think it was the protective membrane within the egg itself preventing bacteria getting in and brewing up something nasty.

    • +2

You know it's pretty easy to check if an egg is off or not yeah? Forget the date, just use the water test. Floats, chuck it. Sinks, egg is fine!

  • +1

i think 85 eggs is a good number to start at, then work your way up

  • You're an idiot… (saying jokingly)

They are great in a shake but should NOT constitute all of your days protein! I used to smash 3 in the morning in a shake before hitting the gym but that was about it.

Just halve that intake and you should be good!
