P20TECH

I believe Dell have made an error in their listing by naming it the Inspiron '5675', the correct model number should be 5680. Don't think anyone has received their order from the last deal as the shipping dates were for late Feb-Mar, but this deal is back for those who missed out on the previous deal.

Specs;

  • This is a bargain, I've been searching for a new gaming PC and got this email this morning too.
    Just bought it!

  • -2

How would this perform as an HTPC?

    • It would be a great HTPC, its rather large, but if you can hide it, it would work well. The 1070 graphics card can run Netflix and kodi at 4K with ease. Also would be able to run a VR headset (HTC vive, etc).

    • +5

It will perform too good to be HTPC. This is better as your desktop rather used for HTPC

    • +2

Might be a bit over powered as just a HTPC but if you do the occasional gaming as well this would be good. Otherwise got for something that won't eat as much wattage and do the same job.

    • +4

way overkill. This is a gaming PC

    • +2

This is massively over-specced for an HTPC, and would use loads of power, too.

You definitely don't need that sort of graphics card (which would be literally half the price of this machine) if you are just playing media. I am happily running 4k stuff from a very modest Radeon card.

Likewise, you don't need a high end Core i7 for media, which would be the other big chunk of the price.

Also, I doubt this would be all that quiet, which is important in an HTPC.

So basically here, three quarters of what you are paying for is a graphics card and CPU you don't need, with Dell's typically crummy other components linking them together and Dell's extremely crappy software pre-loaded on it.

You'd be better off putting together something from parts you choose. You could get a decent HTPC happening for half this price.

    • +5

      Nice shitpost lol
I've got this machine, runs word at 60fps

      • +2

I think ozbargainers are not used to shitposts like on reddit

    • +1

      HTPC!?!?

Lmao. This is ridiculous level overkill. I loved that guy that said 'it plays netflix in 4K.'

      Edit- damn it. Troll

  • Waiting for MSY price for similar spec ;p

      ~$2100. Checked yesterday.

What sort of profitability can this do for mining on NiceHash at the mo?

    • +4

Pretty bad. Unless you have a proper mining setup, mining with a standard desktop is not worth it. The amount of electricity you pay will be more than the earning unless your electricity is free?

      • Oh sorry, I need to clarify my question. It's a given that this would not be able to recoup the initial purchase cost. I am more wondering if I could keep this on for mining while asleep - to generate supplemental "operating" profit. ie. just mining revenue less the electricity cost

        • Hard to tell it depends on what you are mining. Using ETH is an example, a 1070 can roughly do 30-32 MH/s but I used 30 in this case. Not counting electricity and pool fee, 24 hours will get you $2.21 USD.

        • @Letrico: Smiley-k specifically mentioned NiceHash - which is essentially selling your hashing power. It isn't mining any specific coin.

The benefits of NiceHash is that it (theoretically) automatically switches to the algorithm which is the most profitable at any one time. The trade-off is that it may be less profitable than other options (e.g. joining a mining pool, mining altcoins directly).

So instead of comparing it to mining Ethereum, check the results of the hardware in the profitability calculator:
          https://www.nicehash.com/profitability-calculator/nvidia-gtx…

    • +2

      https://www.nicehash.com/profitability-calculator/nvidia-gtx…

This is assuming $0.20 per kWh

To answer your question below, yes it would definitely be worth leaving NiceHash running during any time you aren't using the computer.

      • I don't disagree with the conclusion. However, the difficulty is always increasing, so some months from now, the profitability might be negligible. (Just need to keep track of profitability and electricity costs.) Also Australian residential electricity really costs closer to $0.30 per kWh (easy to check the real cost using the bill).

        • Do people really pay $0.30 per kWh? Mine is around $0.19 (before any pay-on-time discount) and I thought it was on the high side.

This is in SE Suburbs, Melbourne.

        • +1

@Haters.Inc: SA is more like 0.30. Or 0.5 if your a vulnerable old person who cannot do the stupid process of getting less raped rather than more raped by power companies and your with AGL still.

For some reason the moronic electorate voted the parties that did this back into power. Apparently because they're more concerned about sending certain non-white people to concentration camps in foreign countries (or "offshore detention" as the government calls it … detention like primary school, it's fine).

        • @Haters.Inc: can you share which retailer it is?

        • @Diji1: SA has lots of windfarms and now Elon's big battery - someone will have to pay for them.

        • @smiley-k: OC Energy

        • @Haters.Inc: weird, I couldn't find any prices on their website. Looks like they cater for special situations eg. estate/buildings with their own power gen facilities or, for buildings that are still under construction. These special situations are generally not accessible to everyone and the pricing dynamics can differ to the general retailers.

By all accounts 19cents per kWh seem like a really good price, lucky you! I've seen previously one retailer jacking up the daily charge even though variable price is at an enticing level acting as a bait. So as long as you've got comparable daily charges then you're on a winner.

        • @smiley-k: Yeah I live in a new set of apartments so this was the default energy retailer we were assigned.

I never really checked the unit price of electricity until now, but because my electricity bills have always been very similar to previous places I've lived (~$300/quarter for a couple), I just assumed it was an average price.

But good to know I'm getting a decent deal! I checked my bill just then and it's the one flat $0.19/kWh rate - no peak and off-peak rates.

  • Really amazing price….
but I think it can not be shipped oversea.

    • +1

The price includes GST. Will there be another problem?

      • Sorry, I mean I am not in Australia now, so I think it can not be shipped to my current living country.

  • Would this be good for mining Bitcoin?

    • +1

      Please read two comments above.

    • +1

GPU mining for bitcoin isn't viable any more. You need something dedicated like an ant miner.

  • No NVME support only thing holding me back, otherwise fantastic value, better than custom build prices.

Does anyone know if I could add NVME support to this with a PCIe m.2 adapter Card?? And then put a 960 Pro on the pcie card and get the full speeds out of it? Does that work? Has it got a spare PCIe slot on the motherboard??

  • Which one is better in term of build quality and cable management? Inspiring 5680 or XPS 8930?

  • NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1070 with 8GB GDDR5

Any idea what ports are on the back and how many?

    • +1

      Front Ports
      1x Audio Combo Jack
      1x SuperSpeed USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C™
      1x SuperSpeed USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A
      2x USB 2.0

      Rear Ports
      4x SuperSpeed USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A
      2x USB 2.0
      1x RJ-45 Gigabit Ethernet Port
      1x Full Size DisplayPort
      1x Microphone Port
      1x Front L/R surround line-out
      1x Rear L/R surround
      1x Center/subwoofer surround

      • +1

Thats just the back of the motherboard

        • +1

Oh, OK. Well, watch the thread of the last deal. Some of them should receive their delivery soon.

      • +1

This would be I/O for the Mobo. I am after the Gfx card

    • At a complete guess i would say 1 HDMI, 2 DP and 1 DVI, as that seems to be the standard these days, but i don't know for sure.

    • The image shows 1x DVI (unclear which type), 3x DisplayPort, 1x HDMI.

Obviously it's not guaranteed that the image is correct, but even if it's not 100% correct, it'll give you an idea of what to expect.

    • Hello,

Thank you for your email query.

Unfortunately, we do not have any information regarding the brand of the graphics card built with this machine. However the GTX 1070 8GB have Standard Display Connectors/ports (one of each): DP 1.42, HDMI 2.0b, Dual Link-DVI.

      Hope this helps.

      Kind regards,

      Ariel

      :( im after 2 DPs

  • Is it worth that price difference between the two?

How much quality and performance do you lose going lower spec? Not sure what games would require it

    • Going by the GPU alone id say the 1070 is significantly better in gaming performance. https://www.notebookcheck.net/GeForce-GTX-1070-Laptop-vs-GeF… even tho its a Deskptop vs Laptop GPU comparison. FPS gains are between 30-100 on a 1070 compared to 1060. Id say get this if youre a gamer for the long run and if you take gaming and frames seriously

    • Its worth the price difference for the GPU alone, but you get the added bonus of double space on the boot SSD which i think is very important as I find 128GB too small these days.

  • Only 4 units left. Be quick before it sells out.

  • Dell Inspiron 5680 Gaming Desktop i7-8700 SOLD OUT

  • How likely is this to get more stock? Has it ever happened with Dell in the past?

    • Yes. It happened in the past.

    • Back in stock as of 12:00pm on the 21/2. 250 more units added now :)

    • will likely release a little stock every day until the sale finishes, like last time

  • Do you guys think the 1070 inside would be sellable? would be nice to use this as a shell for 1080ti build…

Also is that water cooled cpu inside? there is no mention of it but the pictures show it.. hmm….

(they will likely restock daily until sale runs out as they did with the last one - so wouldn't stress if you've missed out)

    • The PSU being 450W wouldnt be suitable for a 1080ti

      • well yeah i expected that would need to be swapped to 550-600W+ PSU atleast

  • This is still in stock in dell's website. Albeit $2k,should be delivered in a week and a bit.
    Bought it yesterday.

      Where can I get a PC with 16GB DDR4 RAM, 256GB M.2 SSD, 1TB HDD and a GTX 1070 for $200? You can't !!!

Don't buy a car when you can walk! Don't buy a plane ticket when you can swim! You're doing a comparison of apples to oranges.

      Aaaaand while we're at it…

you don't really need six cores in daily use

You can't even buy an i7 3770 cpu for $200 let alone a PC

  • Bought the 5680 this morning. Keen to get it up and running.

    • +1

Commenting on it now. Bloody hell it's good. Haven't played most of my titles on Steam in Ultra - this doesn't even break a sweat.

  • Just received confirmation email. Expected delivery on 6th March.

    • when did you buy? this round or last?

      • Thos round.

  • +1

Noted the Dell website has a special on 3 Year Premium Support (Next Business Day Onsite) for $98.99 (down from $179.99) so I asked for a custom listing for the 5680. Got the OK from Dell meaning the custom listing was $2,247.99 but came down to $1798.39 with the 20% off code. Nice to have the extra warranty and peace of mind for less than $80.

  • has anyone received theirs yet and willing to share some info on the internals? I am still waiting for mine to be posted out .

    • Just got an “item sent” email from ebay. Est arrive 23/4.. eek! I hope it arrives much earlier than that
