I bought a continuous ink printer late last year… Never going back to these again.

    • Out of interest what did you buy? Happy with it?

      • Got an Epson Ecotank…

Very happy… Even photos are pretty good…

No more spending $150 on new cartridges every 2-3 months, now it's about $60 every year or two…

        • which model did you get?
          et3700 looks good

        • @aussman:

          Nope, just got the ET-2750.

Couldn't justify paying more for the extra features of the higher models.

    • Hmm interesting only hearing about continuous ink for the first time.

I last bought a printer about 8 year ago though.

Is this better than refilling ink cartridges? Usually refills reduce price by half or more.

Is this better than refilling ink cartridges?

        definitely…

        https://www.epson.com.au/ecotank/

        • that is a pretty good guarantee.

        • @Gimli:

that is a pretty good guarantee.

          yep, 2 years…

I'd be surprised if I get 2 years without a refill… After a couple of months though, the tanks are still pretty close to full and we print quite a bit…

Genuine refills are also around $16 per colour (for another 2 years of ink…)

        • @jv: They do claim 2 years at about 150 pages per month. It is still very economical for an inkjet printer at around 3600 pages at the same usage rate.

        • @jv: now I just need cheap paper.

      • I bought a Brother after using HP for 30 years. HP has expensive ink with inbuilt microchip. The Brother uses separate ink cartridges (similar to Epson), you get get then cheap on Ebay. Cost is about 1/10 compared to HP. The HP Officejet is clunky design compared to Brother.

Thanks for this. My HP 8630 just died (last week).

  • please add more details about the cashback..
    Redemption is simple:

Claims must be received online no later than 5pm 14th April 2018.

does this mean we need to buy inks with printer? Nevermind ink purchase is optional but you can double your cashback if you do

  • can the Cartridge be easily refilled?

    • yes, plenty of videos on youtube but you will need 2 sets of cartridges for each color as the printer remembers the last cartridge used

      • thanks.
additional set of cartridges are too expensive

        • I’m using the original “setup” ones and a generic set I bought on ebay on my 8720

I am never buying an inkjet again, the ink dries out even if you don't use it. From now on its laser all the way, cheap refills and cheap generic cartridges off ebay.

    • cheap refills and cheap generic cartridges off ebay.

generic cartridges killed my last HP colour laser printer… :(

        you're rather helpful recently

It's still early in the year…

  • I’m looking to print DVD/Blu Ray covers that have the same quality as as the real thing. Not for piracy, but because I just want to make cool custom covers for favourites like Star Wars and compilations of favourite episodes of TV shows etc. anyone steer me in the direction of the type of printer I need for that quality and something that won’t fade? An inkjet like this? Laser printer? I have no idea about printers.

  • The 8745(with a second 250-sheet tray) $172 after cashback is a good deal too:

I’m using the 8720 at home for about a year now and I’m very
    happy with it

  • Wow! $170 for ink refill :O

I normally pay around $80 to get a value pack for my HP printer and i thought that was too expensive.

    • It is expensive, but the “Pro” cartridges have bigger capacity than the non-pro models

  • Just alittle info for anyone interest. I brought the model before this. I use aftermarket ink due to the cost of genuine. HP then sent out a firmware update, which bricked my printer. There is a current lawsuit going on in the US regarding this practice. Personally I will never buy another HP after their actions. I was very lucky that OW business team, took it back. Just please be aware that HP (and I also believe epson) have pulled this stunt before and may try again.

Personally I brought the MX726 canon, which ink is around 30 carts for $36 and have had no issue in 8000+ pages and over a year. Just make sure if you buy this, delay updates until you know what they are really trying to do.

    • HP then sent out a firmware update, which bricked my printer.

HP has released a firmware to undo this.

Another way to stop this from happening in the future is to disable the auto update function of the printer (enabled by default).
