  • No AU warranty? Out of all of my electronic items my laptops are the things that I've needed the warranty most. With the Dell XPS 13,the HP Spectre x360 (HP customer services are the worst in the world) amd now need to contact Lenovo about my new Yoga 920.

    • I can't answer on the AU Warranty although most likely there is no AU Warranty

    7th gen = no buy.

Also need to factor in tax.

Good point. Import tax will be 10% or about AU $100.

  • Dell and HP you can nearly guarantee will have to go back for repairs and/or new laptop.

    Aweful hardware reliability.

It sounds like you've had some bad experience with both Dell/HP in the past, whereas I've had quite positive experiences with them.

      Gotta love subjective opinions.

Which is a gamble with most PC manufacturers.

          … with most PC manufacturers.

so, an even better argument against buying without local warranty and ACL.

Absolutely, but that wasn't the point of my original comment, as they were singling out Dell and HP in particular.

    • You forgot to include Lenovo in that group.

  • USD$166.09 Delivery

    hell expensive shipping.

meh… latest gen quad core version with twice the storage is $1440 on ebay

spend the extra ~$100 and get local warranty and better specs

EDIT: and if you really want last gen with better specs, $1300 in dell outlet (which is cheaper than paying GST on imports)… <$1200 if you don't mind a refurb

Just got an 8th Gen XPS and appalled at how poor the support is.

Would not recommend getting this from overseas.

Hi Ragnarok1983, just wondering, considering you just got the xps, what sort of issues were u experiencing? Is the coil whine or whine coil whatever they call it bad? I'm thinking of getting xps 13 for uni but trying to gather more info. Ta

Dead pixel on screen (which Dell agreed to send out tech to replace screen on site only)
Temperature issues and throttling - took unit apart and found thermal paste poorly applied and crusty
Questionable VRM & cooling (again my expectations are probably a bit over the top)
General unpleasantness dealing with Dell support.

Dont get me wrong, the unit is great for uni etc. But when heavily loaded, the quad core 8th gen is will throttle heavily. From my experience its throttling at 5W and there's no option to increase it.
