      They get brewed worldwide, but yeah, the local ones we get are from China. Whether Aldi has that or some overseas stock, I dunno.

      A while back, Asahi bottles at Aldi were imported from UK, whilst Dan's and others sold the Chinese stuff.
      Do we have confirmation these are Chinese, or are we speculating?

          I have tried it and I like it. But generally speaking I don't think the taste of Japanese beer varies as much as Australian beers do (not including craft beers). Granted we have a lot more different brands than Japan.

          @pat0809: hm. i would contend that there's a huge difference between orion and magnum dry. maybe it's an unfair comparison because japan has happoshu and australia doesn't.

          Yeah, you're right that happoshu drinks definitely taste different to regular beer. But between the standard beers from Asahi, Kirin, Sapporo (and to a lesser extent, Orion) I just don't taste THAT much of a difference.

          That being said, I'm not really fussy with beers and am in no way a beer connoisseur. I used to buy expired beer just because it was cheap lol Also, I might just be tired from drinking the same beers all of the time.

      Wow. In 2018. Don't bother explaining why. The 'everything from China is crap' hyperbole is horribly outdated and reeks of bigotry. Don't kid yourself into believing you dont eat/drink stuff from China. A case in point is apple juice, China supplies the majority globally. Its used as a sweetener in yogurt and many other products. China is the world's biggest beer market. I feel sorry for you, being so stuck regurgitating old racist stereotypes.

      I've seen plenty of women "brewed in China" that I'd be more than happy to touch with a pole far shorter than 40ft. Entirely respectfully and with their full consent of course - I'm not a famous actor.

    Only made in China to cut costs, quality has suffered.

      Plenty of people think the Chinese brewed version is a very good everyday beer. Some actually prefer the licensed product. In a blind taste test I'll bet good money you wouldn't know which is which.

      I think it's pretty deceptive the way it's marketed as a Japanese product (eg "Japan's No.1 Beer") when it's made in China. You really have to read the small print to find the country of origin. And while it's not relevant to this deal, I don't think it's even possible to tell if you're buying a carton.

      If it was clearly marked I wouldn't have such a problem with it, but they've tricked me multiple times (different beers).

      The Checkout had an industry promotional pamphlet that was pretty clear that Asahi was just a normal beer. The "exotic" name let them charge a higher price because punters think they're getting something "special".

    Kirin for me is the best Japanese beer. Even though it's brewed locally, it still tastes great. Asahi is second best.
